Each brand and each model puts out different amounts of heat. Go to a major Big Box store place your hand at the top center back of the various models. It is surprising what you will find. There are many Plasmas that are cool to the touch, there are some LCDs you can fry an egg on; they are all different. The Hitachi's plasmas from just a few years ago were burning hot.
Our plasma is about 5 degrees warmer than the room after playing 8-10 hours. The DVR is about 10 degrees warmer, and the AVR when playing sound loud is about 15 degrees warmer.
