What do you think of the current 2D to 3D conversion madness?

Here is one new and interesting Facebook group that is trying to raise the awareness that 2D to 3D conversions are not as good as true stereo 3D and to promote to stop labeling 3D conversions as 3D movies with the viewers not being aware of that fact. So if you support that idea, then you should go and join the STOP the 2D to 3D Conversion Madness NOW! Facebook group.

I don't care if its converted from 2D to 3D, I can still see it in 2D if I want.

I'm all for calling a spade a spade. 2D to 3D should be called something other than 3D, because true 3D it is not. How about 2D to 2 1/2 D?

Of course but that's not the point. Would you feel ok with paying an extra fee to watch a 3D movie then realize it was not exactly the best 3D effect you've seen and finally learn that it was not a true shot in 3D movie but simply a quick 2D to 3D conversion?

Exactly, they need to find how to label them so people would be aware.

No, I wouldn't. But actually, I don't have to pay an extra fee, now that I've bought a Samsung 3D TV with 2d->3d conversion. To see a 3D converted movie, all I have to do is punch a button on my remote. It's free, and it's not that hard.

That's a nice bonus on a TV where you can decide when to use it or not... sometimes you get good results, sometimes not.

The group is meant to call a stop to all recent annoucements made for 3D movies. I fully enjoyed Avatar and I only wish for next 3D movies to be think in 3D and shot in 3D (unless it computer animation which is laos nice they only need to add a camera to render the movie and get a perfect result). I don't want Hollywood cashing in by fooling people with quick 2D to 3D conversion.

I get the feeling the big brother (uncle Sam) will eventually step in and start regulating the name calling and such.
I would call it 3Dwannabe.

Oh - like when you go to a theater and watch a 2.40 AR movie - you don't know if it is an inferior image from the Super 35 process or the image originated as anamorphic cinematography.

I'm not quite sure why we suddenly need everything to be 3D. It has been around a long time in one guise or another. Avatar looked great, but it gave me a killer migraine in the evening. That experience hasn't exactly persuaded me that the revolution is all its cracked up to be.

I thought I would be against conversions.... I dunno, now that I have converted a few with my setup. I'm pretty open, it does add to the emersion effect more often then not.

I find it amazing sometimes what we will spend time standing up against.
Here is a link for those that want to be more informed on what is converted-
