Thanks for the heads up. I like The Boat very much. Love to hear those rivets or bolts shooting out in the rear channels from the pressure of ship being too deep underwater.

Great piece of movie making.

That's great! But I prefer the full 293 minute version. I hope Sony release it on Blu-Ray soon.

This is a great film but my German is rusty. Any hope of a US version ?

5 hours for a movie is madness! 3 hours is about my limit.

That is too bad. We need a US release. Must own for me.

Well that is the TV-series cut. It was divided in some parts

Sky has the DC subtitled in HD with a Sony Logo, so there is some hope

The longer cut of Downfall would be greatly appreciated too.

Fingers crossed for a U.S. version! Love that movie. Best claustrophobia ever!

You should see Lebanon. That movie makes me feel sooo claustrophobic. Really good flick.

I've been inside U505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago a couple of months ago. It is quite tight but space for all men. The length of the beds was about 5'4" and each man had the bed for eight hours rotating with two others.

I was just reading about that one in Entertainment Weekly this morning. I'll definitely check it out, thanks!

There are no plans for the 3-hour version to be on Blu-Ray, just the Director's Cut. Which is too bad, because I prefer it.

One of a few movies where I wished we had an SDDS home format

This is very encouraging news! Unfortunately it is no guarantee that we will see a U.S. release soon. Pulp Fiction has been out for a couple of years now in Europe, but there is still no U.S. release in sight.

I would be thrilled to get a copy of this German version now, if only I were able to play it. For me personally, the lack of subtitles would be no problem, since I speak German, and often turn the subtitles off anyway. Still, it would be a very simple matter to add the subtitles as well as the English-dubbed soundtrack for any U.S. version.

Well, the release is out. Unfortunately, not English-friendly: only German subtitles (and of course German audio), locked to Region B and with the intro text in German. The picture quality is quite good however, it's from a Sony source with basically no DNR applied.

I do hope Sony will release a better UK set like they did with the DVD.

Day 1 buy for me if we can get English subtitles.

Bummer, I love this film.

Well, I saw it in the theater when it was first released.
Then I bought the Director's Cut DVD.
Then I bought the Superbit Director's Cut DVD (unfortunately I no longer have a speaker system and subwoofer to enjoy the DTS, just my TV speakers).
Then I bought the full-length original TV series version. Which is my favorite.

So I guess I'll be buying the Region 1 BD whenever it comes out. Hopefully by then I'll have a new and larger and improved TV, too!

By now, though, I don't think I even need English subtitles, even though I don't know any German.

This has been top of my "can't wait till this is on Hi-Def" list for ages. The English audio dub on the DVD was pretty good!

Great movie, great story telling.

If only it had English subs. This is one of my most anticipated Blu-ray releases.

Glad to see I'm not alone. This was the DVD purchase for me and one of the best sound experiences. It's hard to believe it's a mini-series edited down to feature film length, although the low budget does show up occasionally. That first "destroyer" is one cheap looking model!
