I guess I will start a thread on this model since I seem to be the only one in the U.S. that has purchased one. I purchased mine approximately 2 weeks ago.

I have spent close to two weeks with the set and find it to be very nice! I am pleasantly surprised with the 2dhd pq which is really good for a 60" with edge lit leds. The contrast and colors are better than I expected even though I haven't dialed it in yet. Motion is handled extremely well with the latest BE3 and motionflow pro. This weekend I downloaded 3 free 3d games on ps3 and have to say I was really impressed- especially with Motorstorm demo! The glasses are very high quality along with the tv and I used the 3D simulation feature to watch some regulare bds in 3dhd! I found the 3d simulation to produce impressive 3d images on both bds and ota hd! I think 3d simulation works really well on anime bds (e.g. Afrosamurai) and also looked really good on Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds BD. In my opinion, although the glasses cause the picture to be a little dimmer, it seems the tv compensates for this quite nicely with there being adequate brightness and color reproduction when viewing 3d images- contrast even seems to be enhanced with the glasses on watching 3d simulation. I am hoping to hear from other owners and reviewers asap! I want some videophile opinions about the settings for 2dhd!

Nice!... I was looking into 55HX800. It has Dynamic Edge Lit instead of Edge lit; 3D Emitter its external but from what I read has its advantages and one of them its that has 15 sensors; while 3D Built in Sony TV has 1 or 2. I experienced the same that the glasses cause the pic to be little dimmer. But when I try the Samsung UN55C7000; it was very very impressive also. I decided to buy Sammy UN55C8000 due that Sony's hasn't arrived yet to Puerto Rico when I placed the order online for a Samsung. Sadly I went yesterday Sears and Sony 3D HX800 Models arrived!!... But after seeing both demos; Im happy with the Samsung. Was thinking in getting a 46"HX800 for my bedroom; but manybe next year.

This 60" set, to me, would be a gamer's dream come true and even though not full backlit with local dimming, it still does well for movies and really well for otahd shows and stuff. Honestly, the 60" kuro still reigns supreme for movie watching. I wish I could either afford to get the lx900 calibrated or at least get a professional reviewers settings to use so I could make a final decision about the picture quality. I also am trying to wait patiently for sony ps3 update for 3d movie watching- I am hoping that watching a movie with this set in 3d will be as impressive as playing a video game in 3d is!

flatpanelshd has settings for the edge-lit HX800, probably the same for the LX. I plan to buy when pricing and availablity are in check.

I had a chance to watch some NFL football (Cowboys Preseason Game) over the weekend and I was very impressed with the picture quality and the sets ability to handle motion. I have come to the conclusion that the LX900 is better than the XBR8 or the Kuro with live sporting events- especially when they are held outside! The football game looked fantastically natural and golf and car racing both looked very good. I even thought the xgames looked better than I've seen before with fast motion handled really well and images popping off of the screen! I use live color setting on everthing right now, but it really enhances the images of outdoor sporting events.

I have determined that using the black Corrector and advanced contrast enhancer settings is essential in obtaining good black levels. These settings really seem to compliment this tv and it's opticontrast panel and standard edge lit led features. I also keep going back to the motionflo pro clear 1 setting for motion handling and it enhances shadow detail and blacks without darkening the picture too much. I think backlight level of 3 is optimum for my room and my settings and I prefer the live color setting on low for color saturation. I am still waiting for others to reveal their settings.

How is the viewing angle on the 60LX900?
I never sit directly in front of the tv and sometimes I wanna look over to the TV from a very wide angle (if Im sitting behind to computer).

My current Sony then shows a very bad image, is this also the case with the 60LX900 ?

It's not as good in this regard as the pioneer sig elite kuro but it's better than the xbr 8.

Anyone seeing flashlighting? I am. When I first turn the set on, I can't really see it, but as the set warms up, it gets worse. Top left, bottom right, and two big splotches in the lower center. I may have to return mine.

If anyone can make sure their set is warmed up, find a fade-to-black moment and take a look, I would appreciate it. If others are not seeing it, then maybe I just got a bad one.
...Oh yeah, and to see the flashlighting with an all black scene, you need to turn off the Advanced Contrast Enhancer under Advanced picture settings, otherwise the side lighting just turns off during the black scene so you cant see the flashlighting.

I am seriously considering replacing my 60 inch Kuro Elite with this. I checked it out at Sonystyle near me and the PQ and aesthetics are great. Personally I like the Bravia aesthetics better over the Samsungs. The Kuro has fantastic color, contrast and viewing angle. So I'll have to consider the trade offs a little more before making a final selection.

I think that you could be happy with the 60" lx900 if you trade in the kuro- really the only loss is that you are giving up the very deepest blacks that the kuro offers- there is alot to love about the lx900 though and it isn't too terribly often that I find myself saying "man- the blacks just aren't as good as my kuro"! The LX900 is a hell of a good 60" tv and I haven't even really gotten into the 3D stuff yet- still waiting patiently on the ps3 3d movie upgrade. go for it ! Why are you giving up your kuro though - may I ask?

I will say this - you can't beat 60" or above- I tried to go 55" with the xbr8 and as much as I love what that set can do, the difference in size between 55" and 60" is huge. A 60" set can really make a 55" set or smaller seem too small. I even went from a 70" set to a 60" set and I must say that 60" is really a great size- maybe the perfect size. I really wanted the full array backlighting and local dimming of the HX909, but 52" killed it for me- I am definitely glad I went the 60LX900 route.

I wanted to see it before plunking down all that $$

So far, I can't find any store with this on display in NYC

I even went to the flagship Sony Style store on Madison Avenue and they didn't even have any for show

Comments and suggestions welcome!

Thanks

Barry

Looked at BB and Frys this weekend, no inventory here in the midwest.

Glad to hear sports motion looks good on this set. I'm hoping to find one before regular season starts!

While watching 3d bd on lx900 in settings the backlight is preset to max and cannot be defeated- anyone else notice this? Also should I defeat 1080p24 on the ps3 when watching 3d?

My 55HX800 has exactly the same issue. In Exactly the same spots you describe. Turning on Dynamic LED control makes them go away.

Problem is 3D mode cant use this setting. I havent turned the advanced contrast settign on though, I will try that tonight.

Do any of you lx900 owners have any input on this tv's 3d performance? Man this tv seems like such a dark horse to me- no real reviews anywhere- no pro settings listed anywhere- I know it's a great television so why no buzz? Must be price!

Based on Sony's offer to replace XBR2's with the 60lx900, this thread should see some improvement. I hope....

Yeah- I'm guessing that $4500-$5,000 for this tv as first gen 3d set was a little too much for most early adopters. I finally saw a pro review of a 50" LX900 in a hometheater magazine though. Still waiting for someone who knows about calibration and has this set to share some settings. I have tweaked the settings for what their worth and can get a great picture for just about anything hd. I tried lowering the gamma from 0 to -1 or -2 or min and it can actually improve the blacks on some material.

Can someone provide a little more info or a link on this? I have an XBR2 in my bedroom that I've been thinking of replacing with a 3D TV. If Sony is offering some kind of incentive I'd love to know about it. Thanks in advance.

Ditto.

Edit: After doing some reading, it seems like something only for people with busted XBR2s that got an extended warranty. I could be wrong, though.

read the xbr2 thread...many posts about what sony is offering, models, pricing, etc. sony not replacing unless your ob fails. extended warranty has nothing to do with replacement.
