Those blogging folks have been at it again, leaking the latest Batman: Arkham City details onto the web via the Arkham City blog. The first plot and gameplay details come courtesy of Game Informer magazine - as a lot of these things tend to - revealing the basic premise of the game's story and a few juicy gameplay tidbits.

Apparently, the story revolves around Two-Face's attempts to kill off Catwoman in a bid to gain added credibility amongst the Gotham's network of villains and criminals. This will see Batman taking to the streets of Arkham City, which was created by (former Arkham Asylum warden and Mayoral candidate) Quincy Sharp when he bought and walled off part of the slums.

Batman will be well-equipped though, as he'll start the game with all of the gadgets he acquired in the last game as well as a useful cache of smoke bombs. And he can now counter two attackers at once, which should hopefully mean you can crack heads together.

Here are the details from the latest issue of Game Informer:

Plot info:

Quincy Sharp is no longer running for mayor.
Arkham Asylum and Black Gate Prison are unfit to hold inmates.
Quincy Sharp buys off part of the slums and walls it off, creating Arkham City.
Hugo Strange is now in charge of Arkham City.
Two-Face plans to execute Catwoman to gain respect of inmates.
The overdose of venom may not be what's wrong with the Joker.
Gameplay info:

You are now able to counter two attacks at once.
More puzzles.
All gadgets included in the first game are available from the start.
Side missions now feature in the game.
Gangs roam Arkham City. These are recorded in Batman's criminal database.
You find people who work for the Riddler to find Riddler challenges.
Batman has smoke bombs.

One of the best superhero video games I have ever played. Top notch game, I hope they don't change to much from the first one, it was almost perfect.

I actually got this on my PS3 (don't go flaming I'm on my 3rd Xbox) - I am remarkably surprised at how good the first Batman game is. I'm really enjoying it - I'll be purchasing the second one for sure.

On whichever console it looks/plays better on of course.

Loved the first one... until my saved game file corrupted at 87% completion and I never had the willingness to start over. Probably get this one anyway though.

I let my friend borrow it 3 months ago and he hasn't even tried it yet. I may have to get it back. I was running through the game on Hard when I lent it to him.

had that happen I guess about halfway through (after that first fight against the two brute titans). I abandoned it out of frustration for 6 months, then returned and burned back through it quickly. Loved that game.

Really looking forward to this sequel.

I still have several challenges to complete but something tells me I won't get back to it.

Still a wonderful game. Here is to hoping the second will be just as good.

I just started playing the game again this weekend. Bought it a year ago and played a few levels. Just stopped for some reason.

Started over this weekend, and the game really does rock. Just fought Bane, now looking headed for the "caves". I think it says I'm like 15% complete, but I assume that means finding everything, solving everything etc. Seems like I've probably played 3-5 hours of the actual game so far which should be about half....I think.

Correct. 100% completion is doing everything in the game, including the combat and sneaking around scenarios.

The combat and predator challenges make this game.

I finally finished getting all the medals on the challenges... frustrating as hell (but fun!)

Started the story mode on hard for my last achievement. I am not sure it is worth it, but I see how long I stay interested.

Just beat the game on Hard, it's not nearly as difficult as the challenges, you'll be fine.

Man, that trailer looks pretty slick, did they change Batman's voice though? Sounds like it.

I don't believe so, but according an article I had read, this is Kevin Conroy's last go-round as the bat...

You were right. It was not too bad, but Ivy on hard was none too fun.

Yep definitely Kevin Conroy which is great as he is the voice of Batman IMHO. Can't wait for this one as I loved the first and truly surprised at how good it was.

Great great great news today, check out this quib from Destructoid:

Quote:

Length-obsessed gamers will be cheered by the news that Rocksteady's next Batman game, Arkham City, will offer forty hours of content, with the main story taking twenty-five hours to beat and sidequests requiring an extra fifteen.

"It takes over 25 hours to complete the main stories in Batman: Arkham City. To keep players engaged for this length of time, not only do the characters and the story need to progress, but the core mechanics of the game they are playing need to change and adapt as well", said game director Sefton Hill.

"The side missions in Batman: Arkham City are a good example. We have around 15 hours of story that's off the main path."

By all accounts, the game looks like it's going to be a thing of beauty, and the fact that there's plenty of it to go around can only be good news. I'm pretty stoked. What about you lot?

40 hours of gameplay! Yeeeeeeeeeah!!!!
