Like her or not, Jolie actually is an an award winning actress like Winslet, Swank and Theron. She has an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.

I got to check out the film in HD using Vudu and I have to say I was disappointed. The film apparently had a troubled production and it shows in the finished product as the story is extremely disjointed with characters popping in seemingly out of nowhere and events occurring without much in the way of explanation. Subplots such as Hex's seeming inability to die and repeated visits to an afterlife limbo where you're supposed to address your "unfinished business" are left hazy and ambiguous.

Josh Brolin does a serviceable job as Hex though between the facial appliances he wears and his gruff, clipped delivery he is often hard to understand. The rest of the cast is pretty weak. John Malkovich, who you'd think would chew up the scenery in a movie like this, gives an oddly restrained, borderline disinterested performance as the main heavy. As for Megan Fox, she's pretty but largely superfluous and her closeups seem to have been digitally smoothed.

I don't know if it was the Vudu feed or what but for me the movie also had some of the most unbalanced visuals and sound I've ever experienced. The dialog was really low in the mix and the explosions and other sound effects were amped up to painful levels. Visually the film was all over the map with overblown daylight scenes and murky nighttime scenes where it was hard to make things out (possibly to hide the subpar effects and CG) The color palette also felt oversaturated at times (the grass in some scenes was so green it almost seemed radioactive).

There were a few good sequences, such as the opening scene where Hex tries to collect on a bounty, but overall I found it to be an unbalanced and often confusing affair. Even a comics fan like myself would be hard-pressed to consider this to be worth a purchase.

This wasn't a bad rental but has no reply value for me.
About 80 minutes total felt like the story was rushed.

If they would have spent about 10-15 minutes in the beginning to show a little background on Jonah, his life and family, perhaps people might have had more empathy for him and the movie might done better at the theaters.
It felt like you drove off a high dive in to the pool and after you entered the pool and reared your head, the movie was over and there wasn't much to the story/movie other than audio and eye candy in the name of revenge.

There's a review for this over at highdefdigest (pretty much the only 'pro' review I've seen so far) and the reviewer, Nate Boss, basically rips it a new one, calling out the disjointed story, weak casting and uneven visuals and sound. I guess it wasn't the Vudu feed after all.

Here's the link, wherein he calls it possibly the worst DC comics adaptation ever. Guess he's never seen Superman IV, Batman & Robin, Steel and Catwoman. Still, ouch!.

Saw this a couple days ago. Wasn't as bad as all of the reviews and comments seemed to indicate. The sound, for me, from the Blu-Ray was very good. Gunshots were some of the best I can recall. Video seemed above avearge to me on my RS-20. It was short...which I think was a good thing. Worth a rental an viewing at or close to reference sound levels in my book. Can't comment on the Vudu streaming...but aren't we in the Blu-Ray section??
