Steamboat Willie. Meet The Robinsons? I believe their "joints" with Pixar are mostly original..

Who's the source? I tried googling it, but this post was the first hit. ^_^;

Actually, I just looked around and leaks of the French and Indian rips are already showing up. They look PERFECT. I'm sure the US will be fine too.

DTS MA 7.1 I'm assuming?

Well, you got me there. Now the question becomes, which one's "accurate?" The one we've had all along or the one that's being released?

I need to pull out my "Art of the Lion King" book if I can find it...

I'll take the version with the blue water, instead of green. But I am not a student of Lion King history. Has this issue been addressed before?

How about the version with the purple grass? You do realize this is a fantastical sequence where everything looks surreal? All bets are on that this is how it is supposed to look.

No doubt they simplified the color pallette for the dvd due to technical limitations, otherwise the water would have literally looked green on people's displays, rather than the aquamarine look it has now.

Again, look at the intense orange sky behind Zazu. This is selective art direction, and certainly not anything like the mistake on the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition.

I want what was originally created. I don't care about what things could look like, nor do I want what you find acceptable.

Well, it will be playing in theatres in 3D in September. And I'll be shocked if that has the magenta wash that the earlier low-resolution home releases had.

Well, my wife already pre-ordered the Blu-Ray and we are taking my 3 and a half year old daughter to the movie. This is my wife's favorite movie of all time, and she doesn't care what it looks like.
Let's do this now so September can be all-Star-Wars-all-the-time, amirite.

Platinum Edition DVD vs Blu-ray trailer vs Blu-ray 2D (FR) vs Blu-ray 3D "base view" (FR)

Platinum Edition DVD vs Blu-ray (FR) vs Blu-ray 3D "base view" (FR)

New coloring, new Disney logos, new title cards, new(?) letterboxed end credits. I'll post some 3D shots later but from what I checked it's like the 2D BD + floating window framing + focus differences to accommodate the planes. (EDIT: added them.)

Looks great.

Quite a colour shift there in places

Pretty noticeable ringing in the trailer shots, so good that the Blu-ray isn't sharpened like it, but definitely not fond of the cropping
post #50 of 170
I hope the moving pictures are better than these stills. I hate change.
I am not happy with those shots at all looking closer.

Time to eat crow from my initial look.

Well I've been flipping through the art book and watching the clips... Some color shifts really don't bother me much but there are a few things that are hard to ignore. Nala in particular is WAAAAY off. She practically looks the same as Simba in the BR. Her feminine desaturated color is basically gone.

Like some others said, it looked like the trailer had been cooked a little on the edges of lines, but overall, for color, I think just about all of it is way more accurate. And the cropping, why?

Really, it's not like it's a poor release, but I have a really fond connection to this film and I can't help but be just a tiny bit disappointed.

If you look the shot of Mufasa in the clouds and the shot of Simba below it, the DVD and BD trailer look like they have the same colour, but on the French BD blue looks like it gets tinged purple. You can see that again in the next batch, with the shot of Simba leaping.
I like the look of the trailer more in pictures (minus EE) but im going to check it out shortly.

Added matching BD3D shots to the post above. Lots of little changes including some (over)sharpening. Most of the backgrounds look like they're de-blurred(?) while some elements appear to be redrawn. The title screen is different yet again, and they zoomed in on the end credits.

Also came across these two while I was taking those (2D vs 3D).

Urrrggggg what a mess
That change in the reflection shot, couldn't that be to accommodate the darkening that happens after wearing the 3D glasses? They want to make sure you can still see Mufasa. Just a guess.

Some of these changes don't make any sense though I'll admit.

Edit: can someone point out the redrawn elements for me? having trouble spotting them.

The 2D version has a shadow on the rocks, the 3D version doesn't.

Is the shadow in the other eye's encode to give a 3d effect?
3D would never erase a shadow completely in a single eye. you might see a shift in the angle of it but that's all.
