Yamaha RX-V3000

I'd like to ask your expert opinions & would really appreciate your help! I have a Yamaha RX-V3000 receiver that I've had for 8+ years. I'm considering selling it & buying a new one with HDMI. I have 2 offers for $300. I couldn't find any others listed online, so I'm not sure what it's worth. Is it worth it to sell this for $300 & buy a new one? Is $300 a good price for it? How good is this one compared to today's models? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Here's the details & specs on it:

First off, people can look up Yamaha's spec sheet, I don't know that you need to post every detail.

It's a pretty old model I think. What year? $300 sounds like better price for it than I would expect. I realize it's a near flagship or flagship receiver. But it's age means it's missing a lot of features people consider important.

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry for spamming all the details. I was trying to make it easier for people to help & keep them from having to search for the info. I replaced all the details with the link instead.

I bought the receiver in 2001 or 2002. I paid $1500-$2000 for it. Any idea how much I'd have to spend to get a updated version of a receiver like this?

Ironically enough, the new receivers are now, designated RX-A..... The RX-A3000, just out, goes for approximately the same price you paid originally. Or maybe a bit more.

Cheers

A lot less for something to compare it with now. That would problably be the 1900/3900. Either can be had for much less than you paid for the 3000. Especially the 1900. That's if you stay with the Yamaha brand. Other brands to compare with it would possibly be the Marantz 7002/8002, Denon 4310/4311,Onkyo 3007/5007/896. Of these the 3900 from Yamaha and the Onkyo 876 would problably the closest to match it. Don't know enough about Yamaha's new Aventage series yet. They do look promising though.

Thanks for all the great info! I'm not really tied to a brand. I just want the best receiver for the money.

As you can tell...I'm a newbie when it comes to receivers. Is there a night & day difference between my V3000 & the new receivers (besides HDMI, HD radio, 7.1Ch)? I want to make sure its a smart move & that I'm not just upgrading to be upgrading. I was just offered $320. Do you think it is worth it to sell mine & upgrade?

I hate the phrase night and day. To me night and day would be like comparing an AM transistor radio from the 70s with a stereo system. Even someone who does not care about sound should hear that.

Using that line of reasoning, I would not expect a night and day difference between any two receivers.

Some receivers could sound better. But don't expect a receiver to make a huge difference in sound even with room correction.

I bet if you put your 3000 against my Z7 they would sound pretty much the same. With room correction on, maybe there would be an improvement. But I would claim that it would not be a big difference.

I'm like Michael with that phrase. You may or may not hear a difference. With the newer models using YPAO as an EQ program as compared to nothing at all you should hear a difference, now whether its night and day only you could decide that. The ease of use, less cables due to HDMI may be enough though to warrant an upgrade. I also feel that you will problably like what the EQ programs can do for a room. Now you need to decide which one you want to try. I've used an older version of YPAO(Yamaha 2600) and liked it a lot. I'm using an Onkyo 876 now that uses Audyssey Multi-EQ XT and also like it. My next AVR is going to be a Pioneer Elite and it uses MCACC for Eq'ing. Between Audyssey and YPAO, the latter was to me much easier to use and did a very good job. Audyssey also does a good job but is not as easy to set-up as YPAO. You need to read up on the different dedicated threads for these AVR's and then determine which one has all the connections you need or want, power, and an EQ program. There are a lot of really good bargains right now on last years models or even models from the year before. For Yamaha the 1900/3900, 1065/2065, for Denon the 3310/4310, Marantz the 7002/8002, Pioneer Elite SC 25/27(ICE amps) or even a SC05/07 if you can find one. These are the models I would look into if I were you and you have no need for 3D. If you want 3D you will have to go for the new models. Good luck and enjoy.
