Star Trek TNG Seasons Remastered on Blu-Ray - Page 60

So if I bring in any old DVD with the original case (even ones worth 1 penny on Amazon Marketplace), I get $5 off on TNG? Awesome deal.

Yep. My only question is if a person like myself who already did the dvd trade-in over the past weekend and didn't use all 5 of his $5 store credits can apply a $5 credit towards the STNG box next week. I'm assuming yes as long as I have that ad in hand when I buy.

Best Buy has already changed the pre-order price to $59.99 on their Web site.

Can you explain how that works? I buy it online, pick it up, and they give me a $10 coupon to apply to something else, or is that $10 applicable directly to the purchase? I ask because I haven't been in Best Buy in years, and I likely won't go back in a while. This is a deal too good to pass up. biggrin.gif 59.99 - 5 - 10, ha. What a joke considering I bought the whole series 10 years ago for $110 a season, and those were lazy tape-to-DVD transfers that cost pretty much nothing to make compared to this huge undertaking. I almost feel guilty underpaying.
Thanks! I see it at $59 now also. Guess I will try the pre-order but pick up in store method.

Did they not give you a coupon?

They give you one coupon and staple a sales slip indicating how many $5 credits you have (max 5 per coupon/visit to store). When you buys new Blu-rays using those credits, the checkout person basically draws a line through say, 3 credits indicating (in my case for example) I had 2 more credits left on the sales slip and initials the slip. It's a pretty dodgy, micky mouse way BB handles this and naturally varies from store to store - I've had on previous occasions had a sales person not do anything to the receipt allowing me to re-use those credits on subsequent purchases and I've also had a sales person cross out *all* the credits even though I hadn't used them all and I've had to go through the trouble of getting the person to issue me a new receipt. It should also be noted (at least in my case) you can take the credit coupon/slip to *any* Best Buy besides the one you got the credits at.

Interesting, my store just gave me one coupon per disc. There was no sales slip, as they didn't actually ring anything up, just took my DVD's, slapped a "Recycle" sticker on 'em and handed me the coupons. Oh, well, no need to go further off topic, there is another thread for this. smile.gif

I got Star Trek on my Facebook and see this on my timeline:

The comments are just maddening.

Ummm, and where did the high definition come from ? Was this recorded using high definition cameras ? If not, it is enhanced definition then. I see color correction, and a few digital processing effects, but not true high definition.
Quote:
Guess I'm a moron.... the High Def looks dark and dim...the Standard is brighter, and you see more detail. I don't see this as an improvement at all...it looks like it happened at DUSK... Sorry.
Quote:
the birghtness of q's shoulder in hd is an example of over emphasizing the wrong elements. the focus of the brightness on q's face in sd is better placed, to bring out what is important in the scene. the sd is much more pleasing than the hd in this example.
Quote:
i didnt realize turning up the contrast ratio made things high def no wonder why my blurays have all sucked so far lol
Quote:
the sd is more pleasing to the eye than hd. you take in the whole scene. and it's more balanced. instead of indiividual elements standing out their own. you get a cohesive whole. the hd picture is harsh. and un attractive. ultimately it detracts from the scene. (sure it's sharper, clearer.. we get that)
Quote:
every time they do this the sd version is degraded..it never looks that bad....it is to make the hd appear so much better
Quote:
God that looks so horrible. Please tell me you will still be selling the regular dvds for a while so I won't be forced to have to watch it like that. Holy crap

If there was ever a more appropriate use of this pic I dunno what is:
facepalm.jpg

I was skeptical at first too because of good old George Lucas and the Star Wars fiasco but after comparing the DVD's to the BluRay sampler the DVD's look like a bootleg IMO.
To be fair the HD really isn't HD in that picture, even if it's STILL the better picture.

Studios need to think about the least common denominator fans. They should have provided a 1090P images and overlaid a up-resed DVD image next to it. When you compare the correct sizes, even these idiots couldn't explain it away.
Yeah, those comments are fail worthy.

Anyways, looks like someone did a quick sampler/BD comparison:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison.php?id=103725

Sadly it's a bit softer. Hopefully CBS splurges and add one more disc for the remaining sets.

It says that comparison was added 6 months ago and has text on it, it can't be from the S1 set.
Hmmm....yeah, and why does the text on the bottom of the image blur along with the shot?? Something not right there.

Just think...

Soon you will be able to have an HD version of that facepalm to post... and then someone can complain about how that doesn't look as good! smile.gif

Isn't that just a screencap from a YouTube video?

I took that screencap as a png directly from the m2ts file using VLC Player, then saved as 100% quality JPEG in Photoshop -- and if you watch the trailer that it came from you can see that it is a dolly move throughout, so what you're perhaps misinterpreting as noise reduction is mainly 24fps motion blur, nothing to be concerned about.

It happens at 0:21 in the trailer:

Price seems to be holding at $79.99 up here in Canada, despite the Canadian dollar being at par with the U.S. dollar. Unfortunate but not surprising.

Review up at High-Def Digest:

No mention of the original 2.0 stereo mixes....not even listed on their "Details" section.

Well, they're already done with season 2 (ETA Dec) and halfway through season 3 from what we've heard. At least with this project, I don't see them shutting it down this far in.
I hope so I will get season one and two for completions sake, but I tried watching them on Netflix and damn they have not aged well at all and I was not a huge fan till season three anyway!

Season 1 is pretty awful, except for a handful of episodes 1100......the one with 1s and 0s, Arsenal of Freedom, The Big Goodbye, The Battle, and Conspiracy. But after seeing Encounter at Farpoint looking so vibrant and new, I think I may have to reevaluate the early episodes. Season 2 gets a bad rap. I thought it was a strong season outside the clip show and Outrageous Okona. I think I'm the only one who likes The Royale.

I won't be happy until DS9 Season 7 Blu-rays are released around 2020 or so. cool.gif

I am in for DS9, by far the best Trek series. (post shaven Sisko)

Good news regarding missing footage, from the blu-ray.com review:
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
(Note: The episode "We'll Always Have Paris" contains two seconds of SD video unconverted to HD).

Two seconds for a whole season is pretty good.

I looked through he episode list and and I'd say there's about 6-7 great episodes, 3-4 ok ones, which leaves 12-13 meh', IMO of course. Not too bad, but not great either. It's a season that gets kids hooked thought, and the more adult and refined stories come a bit later.

Second season does get a bad wrap, as there's some really good stuff there.

Could someone with the set do a DVD/BD comparison of this shot at screenshotcomparison.com?

582138_509980889018421_1471061772_n.jpg

The image at the Trek Facebook page is lackluster, but the comments there are infuriating. Is it common still to troll Bluray? Cause I have a hard time believing 2/3rd the comments complaining about the remastering are legit.

Anyways, enjoy these ripped from TrekBBS (hat tip NCC-1701):
