Season 3 is more than worth it.

Season 3 is worth it to me because that's the first season TNG started to resemble the rest of the seasons (uniform change, etc.)

I read that CBS digital farmed out the upgrade of even seasons to another company. So expect Seasons 1, 3, 5 and 7 to look great. 2, 4, 6... those are questionable. There are exceptions: key two-parters that span seasons (like BoBW and Redemption) were all done in-house by CBS digital. I did read that Season 2 had some sub-optimal effects and hopefully they iron that out for seasons 4 & 6.

personally, regardless of some mistakes in the quality, these are far and above superior to the original DVD releases. I will be buying all of them.

You'll be happy to hear that CBS-Digital had more supervision with Modern VideoFilm's work on S4 (including the use of Max Gabl's CINEMA 4D planets) and that CBS-D will be handling all remaining seasons (5, 6, & 7). smile.gif

You're overreacting here. S2 isn't bad. It doesn't look bad. It isn't "perfect" but then again neither was the original show.

When S2 was being done, S1 wasn't done yet. There was no template, no "bar" was set. If S2 had come out first nobody would have had a problem with it.

It's like rejecting a bunch of 22kt gold because it isn't 24kt.

I'm not going to go hyperbolic... but to be fair... in your example... complaining that 22kt gold isn't 24kt gold might seem petty... UNLESS you paid for 24kt gold and only got 22kt. If you are advertised and sold 24kt, then you better get 24kt.

Costs are what they are, you're getting less content (fewer episodes) and questionable content quality (some S2 shows are the worst in the entire series).

When I got S2 I was slightly disappointed it wasn't the same as S1, but I didn't feel ripped off. Now that the bar has been set, S3 was excellent and S4 looks to continue that.

To say you'll never buy another season until they "fix" 2, despite 3,4,etc. being excellent, is throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Screen shots shown so far for Season 4 at TrekCore look pretty good, with none of the issues that displayed in early Season 2 screenshots.

That is excellent news! Was season 4 still not up to CBSD/CBS’s standards? The trailer looked much better than HTVs work, but was still a tad rough around the edges in some shots. Still, I wouldn’t say there was much of a difference there.

Meh.

Season 2 is pretty terrible. Lots of compositing errors, misaligned lightmaps, terrible CGI, and DNR. HTV DNR’s everything for some reason, and has a long history of ruining resorations. They did the bare minimum, and even then aletered the film like quality by removing any grain structure in the FX shots.

I honestly don’t know how they stay in bussiness. Everything they’ve touched has come out the other end questionable. I agree don't skip the rest of the show, which is nothing short of amazing as far as TV show restorations go. But skip buying season 2 in protest? Sure (I did/am!)

Here’s hoping they allow CBS-D to go back are fix season 2 propper. It’ll never happen, because it’s akin to admiting the mistake and everyone will be lining up for new discs.

I am holding out for a fixed season 2 in the eventual seven season boxset that we'll get down the line.

I want to see the Borg Collective set remastered for Blu Ray!

Might be a long wait.

Seems that publishers are moving away fro huge expensive box sets and into individual seasons and then "best of" samplers. I'd hope for a box set, but it might not come.

Season 2 getting the money for another full restoration is slim to none.

It's Star Trek. It will ALWAYS get another boxset or collection or whatever term fits.

I never payed attention to Voyager much (although I heard a lot of opins during its run) but I watched a good portion of Enterprise, and a lot of the stories seemed like they were plucked from the bottom of the bin from something produced on the Syfy Channel.

The finale was more than just bad. It was shockingly stupid.

What, you weren't convinced by Frakes and Sirtis' makeup job?

That was only the tip of the iceberg. biggrin.gif

Except season 1 came out first. That was the bar.

I simply can't reward farming your product out to an incompetent company, then expecting the customer to pay for it as though it's as good as where the bar was set previously.

No it's not.

I can still watch the show on several other formats. However, if I'm going to open my wallet to buy it on BD, it's got to be right.

Since I'm not buying season 2, I don't see the need to buy the rest beyond and leave an empty spot in hopes they'll fix it - and they likely won't if everyone buys it and considers it "good enough".

Now, if you wish to put up your money to let me include it in my collection, then I'll buy the rest. However, it's my money to refuse to spend on their poor judgement in friends to trust with their personal property.

Essentially, they loaned their neighbor a perfectly decent lawn mower and got a poorly running one back in return. Now they aren't going to demand it be fixed at the neighbor's expense.

Eh, I can live without seeing Dr. Pulaski ever again.

I feel the same way about Dr. Crusher. Unfortunately there are 6 seasons with her.
At least she's nice to look at.

Agreed about redheads. Unfortunately Crusher opened her mouth and ruined the effect!

Season 2 was being worked on BEFORE season 1 came out. So there was no bar.

Your loss. Especially since the questionable content in S2 is vastly outweighed by the rest of the work on that season.

Season one was released before season. For the buying customer, that makes it the bar.

The assumption that they could do shoddy work on season 2 isn't my problem and not worthy of my money.

How is it my loss? It's my money and my choice. Why does it bug you so much that I don't want to buy it?

Now, leave me alone about it. You act as though you worked on it or have stock in the company.

does anyone have a clue to where the best price is for STNG complete set for a relatively affordable price?
Complete set? There aren't any yet; not all the seasons have been released.
Any boxset will probably be around $300 when it finally comes out and you can bet your mom's secret recipe for Cinnamon Belgian waffles that it will have exclusive bonus content in the form of a single Blu-Ray disc. That's why I'm not buying the show on Blu until the boxset hits.

I dunno, $300 may be a bit optimistic. When the complete TOS-R set came out on December 15th, 2009 it was $170 for 3 seasons, so $56.66 a season. That would put a full TNG-R set around $400. It took the TOS-R set 3 years to get it down to $43.33 a season on Amazon.com (that would be equivalent to your $300 prediction). So it's possible -- perhaps even likely -- that it may take until late 2016 (the 50th Anniversary of Trek) or even summer 2017 for a complete TNG-R set to reach a price as low as $300. And it's worth noting that there were no bonus discs added to the complete TOS-R set. The same goes for the complete Twilight Zone set which was also CBS.

I think that by the time CBS is done with remastering TNG on Blu-ray, their budget which they allocated for producing special features will be essentially used up. In fact, if they're inclined to throw any kind of bonus disc in there for enticement it may just be the bonus DVD they put in the 7-Season DVD set they released in Oct. '07, which I already have a copy of fortunately. But anything's possible, I suppose. smile.gif
