What are you trying to accomplish?

Do you listen to music or HT what percent?
What are the size dimensions of your room?
Are you just looking for some low base sound or are you wanting to feel it?

for 2G's you can do a lot better than Polk!

How large a sub can you deal with? If you can deal with a really big box, there are some great subs within your budget.

I would save up some more money and get the SVS PB-12 Plus.

https://svsound.com/products-sub-box-newpb12plus.cfm

This full size ported sub was professionally tested with its maximum output at 20 HZ of 114.8 db. And more than 108 db up to 63Hz.

Should make for a great 60% HT sub.

There is so much competition at ~$1,000, I wouldn't be in a hurry because of the sale. The PB-12 Plus would be a huge jump in performance over your Mirage S12.

I just upgraded from a Mirage S12 myself, ended up getting the Epik Empire. You might want to take a look at that as well, from what I have read it outperforms the PB-12 (no real world experience for me though, just through research). And it comes in way under your budget, so you could get a 2nd or just save the extra $$.

How do you like the empire I was taking a look at that myself no one on here likes polk sub.

For ~$999.99 you can get better performance for the money than with the polk.

Check these out as well. A break from the black box.

F15HP in black oak or walnut finish (you may have to inquire about walnut since the enclosure is the same) should suit HT and music needs.
They are of resonable size too. Roughly a 20x20x20 cube, so the pics can be decieving.

I was looking at the DSW pro4000 too but everyone seems to be against Polk. Just curious, has anyone reading this thread done an A/B between a higher end Polk sub vs. Empire, HSU, SVS, etc? From what I'm gathering, many larger companies (though I can remember the day when Polks were made 5 miles up the street from my current home) that make multiple lines run the risk of spoiling their reputation because people often hear the lower end junk and then dismiss the entire brand.

What I liked on the Polk DSWpro4000 was a.) small size high WAF, and b.) the Polk room optimizer. The room EQ w/mic seems like a good idea for dialing in the sub. I'd venture to guess a properly dialed in smaller sub would best in many ways a giant poorly setup sub. With that said, I know zero about how good/bad the Polk sub EQ actually works and I'm sure an Avia DVD and SPL meter would be a better solution, or even the Audessy system maybe?

Has anyone listened to the Polk DSWpro4000 in person in home?

Thanks
