I ran across a deal on a pair of NHT VT-2's and an SA-3 amp for $275.00. I see where these were manufactured around 1999-2000, is this too much for speakers this old? They seem to be in great shape, but I dont want to buy outside there worth. Is this a good deal or should I pass?

I'm not sure what the value for them is, but I'm trying to find Superzero's for my game room, and those go for 50-75$ a piece in the used market. They were the smallest bookshelf NHT made. So, comparatively, that seems like a decent price. I would buy them, but others may have a different idea.

From a price standpoint, seems to be a good deal.

Audigon's Blue Book lists the used average for the NHT VT-2 at $760 based on data from JAN 00 to NOV 08, $1305 high and $560 low

The used average for the SA-3 is $320, NOV 02 to NOV 08, $390 high, $250 low.

Audiogon BB info is not always 100% reliable, so you'll need to do more research. Here is a pair on eBay. Another eBay listing for a pair of VT-2 that did not sell. Both examples may indicate the BB used average is too high.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll offer the guy 200.00 take it or leave it and see what happens. I would pay 200.00, if nothing else I would have a decent sub amp with free speakers at that point.

I think that is a steal for that price. The VT2s were NHT's flagship for movies in their day. I had them for a number of years and moved on because I wanted something better for the center channel than the VS2. But those are really nice speakers and for that price, if you have the room for them..(they are big) you are getting a great deal!!!

I have room, but maybe not optimal room. I would have to leave them about six inches from the wall. I really cant go out further than that. What is that going to do for the sound and imaging?

The port is in the back so it would like to be out from the back wall.. 12 inches if you have it... 6 would probably be acceptable. The woofer fires to the side. If you are only 6 inches from the side wall but can fire the woofer toward the center you would probaby be ok.. you should toe them in a bit if you can... NHT recommended 21 degree toe in.
good luck.

The VT-2 speakers were from the video line and specifically designed to not be toed in.
