I need a screen I can use messing up the wall, or ceiling

I moved into a new place that I am renting, and because I don't own the place I can't put holes in the wall, or ceiling, or put velcro on the wall that might peel paint or something else when taken off. I can't hang put hooks on the ceiling and hang the screen from the ceiling. Bookshelves might work but I don't own any, and if it's between that and no other solution then I'll just have to get a portable screen. (Portable means it doesn't need to be nailed/screwed into the wall, right?).

I'm wondering if, for say a normal 16/9 framed screen, if you could put the bottom of the screen in some floor mounts, that would hold it up vertically?

Or, if I had a bench, that I put right up against the wall, and then just balanced the screen vertically on the bench, letting the bottom of the screen sit on the bench, and the backside of the screen lean up against the wall, something like:

Would something like that work? Are there any other options to mount a normal, non-portable screen, or do I need a portable screen, and if so, what kind? How do the portable screens work without being nailed into walls?

You need a pull-up or a fixed-frame screen. Both of them can be placed and balanced on top of the TV stand, media shelf or wherever you would put your LCD TV if you were getting one. Of course, you would need to have the TV stand/media shelf backed against the wall for this to work. Should you choose a pull-up screen, pick one that has a smaller foot print. Tripod self-standing screens would not work.

Something like this would work

Pull-up screen:

Fixed frame screen:
from htdepot... Focupix_Widescreen_Fixed_Frame_Screen_95_p/ff169lt-80gy.htm

I have not bought their products before, I am simply saying these are the ones that you want.

Here's the other thread you started in January on the same topic

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...188&highlight=

It's helps those trying to help you to keep the topic to one thread...that way members can see what's already been discussed and either build upon that suggestion or take it in a different direction if that suggestion has been shot down as not viable. Otherwise members maybe just redundantly offering the same suggestions...that doesn't serve anyone. In the future, please bump the existing thread with an update on your situation OR just to bump for additional suggestions.

If you have not bought their products before, how can you make the statement "there are the ones that you want"?

To the OP, there are fixed frame stands many of the screen manufacturers make for their units that literally hold them up (you can often choose the height too).

Something I forgot to mention, since the projector can't be nailed into the ceiling either, it is going to be floor mounted. Meaning, if the screen is sitting on a bench, a bench that sticks out horizontally a little bit, then it might block the projector light coming up from the floor.

How do I get around this?

What is a pull-up screen? How does it stay up and stay 100% perfectly upright and not slanted backwards or forwards?

The names you gave me...I don't know if they're supposed to be links or what, but I'm not seeing any pictures attached or links or anything. In other words i cant find pictures or information about those screens, so if you could please add the pictures or info you probably meant to in the first place that would be very helpful.

I assume he meant those were examples of the types I screens I would want to look at, if not necessarily those exact ones. I could be wrong though. If that is the case it doesn't explain why he picked focupix ones to show and not da-lite or anything else.

Can these be found on the screen makers websites? Like da-lite's website? Also are they really big and hard to ship, and are they expensive?

And most of all, my issue about the PJ being floor mounted... Do these stands come like two inches thick? As in just thick enough to balance the screen on them, but they don't protrude enough outwards to block the PJ light?

And if, I assume, they don't come like that, what options do I have left? Pull-up screen my only option?

Thanks for your help.

These floor pull up screns, how do you get the bottom the screen high enough?

And are you basically saying these pull up portables are the best way for me to go, or should I still be looking into a fixed frame screen?

Also some of these screens talk about a mechanism that tilts teh screen forward to compensate for overhead projector distortion...

Can you turn it off? Since i'm floor mounting, does that mean i need to tilt it forward? Can I not use the screens that have this mechanism?

Please advise. Thank you.

Regarding the question if the floor pull-ups will be high enough, take a look at this one.

http://www.da-lite.com/products/product_pdfs/87.pdf

the picture there looks like it would just sit on the floor, with the bottom of the screen only an inch or two above the floor. it talks about a stand you buy separately, but i dont know if that stand will lift the screen four feet in the air, or two, if it will go high enough, etc. do you guys know?

What about something like this?

http://www.da-lite.com/products/prod...cID=19&pID=214

The picture also looks close to the ground, but maybe the side posts that hold it up, you can raise the screen higher on those?

I really don't know so I'm hoping one of you does and can help me.

Why don't you call dalite directly with their questions? My personal experience has always been great when dealing with their reps.

I didn't even know that was an option. Thanks for the idea i will do that. but, is da-lite the only screen company that sells portable screens, or are there others i should call too and look into?

Have you considered using something like Command adhesive strips? This can removed without damaging the paint on the wall.
