I read that GSN will be out in HD on September 15th. Has anyone else heard this?

I can only find one or two articles that state this.

Thank you!

The only report I can find is here: http://buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com...eptember-15th/

I've sent an e-mail to GSN and will report back with the answer.

Thank you very much, it's appreciated!

I totally missed this.

Nice to know as I want GSN in my HD channel section. I hardly ever leave the HD section of my Bright House cable and this is another step towards never having to venture into the SD area ever again.

Nothing official, but this should happen.

Much of what this channel programs are old SD shows, but some providers like E* have poor quality SD channels which can even degrade SD sources. They should look much better in HD if they're kept in their original aspect ratio without zooming.

“With the advent of digital switching, most of the cable operators are shooting for 100-plus HD channels,” notes Dennis Gillespie, senior VP of distribution at GSN, which will be launching its HD feed on Sept. 15th.

The GSN launch also highlights the growing number of game shows now in HD. All of GSN’s original programs are being produced in hi-def at launch and a growing proportion of its off-net shows are now produced in HD, Gillespie explains.

GSN Joins HD Game

Channel set for Sept. 15 launch

By George Winslow -- Broadcasting & Cable, 9/8/2010 8:38:14 PM

GSN will be launching a high def feed on Sept. 15, when its GSN HD simulcast will go live on satellite Galaxy 13, transponder 13. The launch highlights the growing availability of high def game show programming, which like other types of daytime and syndicated programming has been slow to make the transition than sports or prime time fare.

"Until recently not a lot of game show programming was being done in HD," GSN Senior VP of Distribution Dennis Gillespie explained.

GSN is now producing all of its ten original shows in high def and "some of the stuff that is coming off network and syndication is being done in HD," Gillespie noted when asked about the timing of the launch, which comes after most major programmers have already begun offering HD feeds. "With all the new programming we are doing and what is coming out way in HD [from off-network or syndication], it made sense to do it at this time."

At launch, all of the primetime programming will be produced in native HD and about 40% of the overall schedule will be in high def, with the rest up-converted.

GSN moved into a new facilities about eight months ago, which allows it to produce its new shows in HD. Gillespie expects the proportion of HD programming on the channel to expand over the next year as GSN continues to expand its original programming.

No distribution has been announced, but Gillespie noted that they have been testing the signal with several major operators. With more capacity opening up on cable and satellite platforms for HD feeds, he expects to rapidly gain distribution for the channel, which is currently available in standard definition in about 73 million.

"Most operators are shooting for 100 plus HD channels and we think we will be one of those services," he said.

I'm glad they are going to do upconversion instead of stretch o vision for the SD stuff.

As long as they keep showing "Card Sharks," "The $XXX,000 Pyramid," "Family Feud" and "Match Game" reruns on weekdays (gotta get my daily dose of Dickie Dawson and Gene Rayburn) GSN can keep showing their stupid HD original shows in primetime all they want. I won't watch them.

I love Card Sharks. It would be nice if they showed older shows like "Classic Concentration".

Showing Greed and Dog Eats Dog again also would be nice.

Stretch o vision is an aspect ratio setting on the upconverter. One can select that or other options such as keeping the 4:3 OAR or zoom to crop the top/bottom. SD always needs to be upconverted to be shown on an HD channel.

TVOD: Got ya.

Well, it's the 15th. We should be hearing about pickups very soon.

I see where YouTube has many of the "Wha't My Line" epsidoes with the mystery guest (celebrity). How long has it been since these aired on GSN?
It's been a couple of years since GSN stopped airing B&W Overnight (which also included "I've Got A Secret," "To Tell The Truth" and other Goodson-Todman oldies before becoming 'the Card Sharks' overnight Wayback Playback.
