Is this correct? Shouldnt it stay in standby?
i've been meaning to post about this same thing. what firmware are you running and what is your control format (ir or tcp)? i control using both tcp and ir (i prefer irule on the ipod, gf prefers the harmony), and until a day or two ago, i was on the ipcontrol dev firmware (2349). here was my experience: if the dune was put into standby
using ir after having been used for a while (couple hours or more), it would shut itself down completely within ~10 minutes of entering standby. after that, the nic was inactive and it therefore could only be turned back on by pressing the standby button on the unit itself, or by using ir. and once it was turned back on it goes through the full boot cycle, as if it'd been hard powered off. if put into standby using tcp, this never happens. also, if put into standby using ir, but without the player having been used long enough, this never happens.
i know the nic is inactive because the link light goes off on the switch sitting right next to it. i know it has to be on for "a while" first, for any of this to happen, because when i first had the hunch that it was only after my gf had turned it off using the harmony that i couldn't turn it back on using my ipod, i tried to test my theory and found that putting it in standby with ir right after it had been turned on did not cause a shutdown/reboot. however, it happens consistently when put in standby using ir after watching a movie or a few hours of tv shows. also, i've tested using both discrete, and toggle ir commands and the behavior is the same with both.
a few days ago i updated to the most recent firmware (stable release from 2/25/11). i haven't had a chance to retest since the update, but i'm anxious to see if the problem remains or not. if anyone else wants to chime in with similar experiences, and/or do some tests and report their findings, it would certainly be appreciated.
