Delivery dates I have been given remain September. We have been informed of no delays in the production, so I have every reason to believe that the dates are solid. If there is any change in status, everyone on the preorder list be will be notified.

CD or anyone else who is concerned about preorder status, please feel free to contact us. We will be more than willing to issue a full refund. We certainly don't want anyone feeling uncomfortable about thier purchase.

Thanks
Mike

I've PM'd Mike (in response actually), and thanked him for checking in. I don't want to speak for everyone, though I imagine we all feel the same: what we really hope is that it's a non-issue, because that will mean we will have our new players on time.

It is an odd policy, and one I don't think we come across that often. It's worth looking into for the future Mike, but I think we all agree there was no ill-will intended.

I do understand. We are in constant contact with HDI, and if anything changes we will most certainly let everyone know. We have put in a feature request (how ironic) for an "authorize only" setting on specified items to our cart supplier.

I have to admit I am in the same position. I needed to order a standard stocking part number underground water storage tank for another project. (not dune realted of course) I was told 4 weeks, and they did in fact charge my card. So I am in the same position, but I need the tank, so I will have faith in the 4 weeks.

Anyone who needs me, please feel free to call.

Thanks,
Mike

Having been on that side of the fence, I can assure you the money is not sitting, collecting interest.

Why would a company accept pre-orders if it wasn't to collect the money up front? That money is then used to finance the initial production run. It saves you from having to borrow from the bank, and pay interest.

Ever notice that the typical pre-order-to-delivery period is about the same amount of time it takes to build and test?

Then, you should not buy a dune, because it requires the use of a separate display device

I agree. Even if a 100 units, (I doubt 500 units) were pre-sold. That is
$255.00 x 100 units at 1% interest for one month works out to about $ 21.00 interest. Hardly worth the time and effort.

That would explain it if this were a pre-order from HDI themselves Mark; but this is Duneplayer, who is just a reseller. What are they doing with the money?

And I know the answer in this case is likely nothing...although it wouldn't be very smart business to just let it sit...but it's more about principle...and interest...lol; because that's what we'll all be paying on the pre-order charged to our cards.

Listen, no one's quibbling that much about a couple-hundred bucks, or the buck in interest; like I've said, I'm just not used to seeing it done. Most of my other pre-orders...at least that I've notice...haven't been charged until the item is ready for shipping.

But Mike's been up-front, and offered to correct the situation...so that makes all the difference. It's a non-issue...for now...and for those that feel differently, Mike has said Duneplayer will take care of it.

I would venture to guess that 2 TB would be limit at this time. When larger drives are released a firmware upgrade should enable support for drives larger than 2TB.

Anybody have a Dune Base they want to sell? I have my WHS ready to go and I need to retire this Xtreamer!

Why not just call Duneplayer.com? I think they are slightly cheaper now.

I see, they are $20 cheaper now. I'm looking more for a used but cared for unit under $300. Maybe once the new players start shipping there will be some used ones for sale here or elsewhere. For what I have spent on my previous two media players I could have just bought the Dune in the first place. Oh well, live and learn.

See if they have refurbs or returned units? Maybe?

Doesn't hurt to ask I suppose. As much as I would like to save some money and settle for one of the new smaller models, my patience with these other units (Xtreamer, WDTV Live) is running thin. I think I might prefer the full scale component design of the 3.0 models anyway. I plan to sell off my Toshiba HD-DVD player which will free up a nice space for a Base or Prime unit.

I agree.. I love the look of the Base. I may buy the new style for my garage because of the size and just to have a reason to check it out.

I actually just got rid of my Toshiba HD DVD player and am in the process of selling off the smaller/problematic/older streamers in my house.

Does that mean all of them except the Dunes?

I hated to sell my XA2s.. I still remember how Transformers looked and sounded the first time I booted it up. It was a good time.

Haha, well, lets just say the competition is dwindling in my house, some because of the Dune and some because I have to buy the latest/greatest (bought the new Xbox 360 to replace my older Xbox 360 Elite, haven't played an Xbox360 game in over a year!!!).

On a side note and completely off topic, I brought my Squeezebox Radio into work today, can't believe I didn't think of this earlier, rocks having all the internet stations (and not having to go through my work pc). Now if only it could also play back my content from my WHS at work I would be set (will just have to use Subsonic over the web for that for now)!!!

My Xbox360 breaks all the time.. I have 3 replacement models due to Red Ring of Death. I only purchased to play Gears of War. It failed half way through the game. It has taken me almost 4 years to finish that game because I loose interest waiting for repaired Xbox360 to return only to break again.... LOL... I gave up .. I'll stick with PC Gaming!

the Xbox 360 is the reason I quit PC gaming. Get the new 360 Slim. Much quieter than the previous versions.

I hate to break it to you but the XBox360/PS3 can not compete with the PC with regard to image quality and FPS shooter gaming. I just built a new gaming rig. I play at 2560 x 1600 resolution on a 30" Monitor. I have 2 ATI 5970s in Quad Fire, 24 gigs ram and an I7 Hex watercooled and OC to 4.2 ghz. The PS3 and XBOX360 are not in the same league. I have been PC Gaming since Wolf days and the PC is the platform of choice if you can keep up with the cost. The gamepad is a joke compared to a Laser Mouse/Keyboard Setup.
Too bad PC is a dying platform due to the cost involved. Crysis sealed its fate several years ago with very steep requirements. It has been on the decline every since the "Next Gen" consoles came on the scene. The pioneers, ID Software and CRYTEC (once PC exclusives) are now programming and testing on consoles and PC gamers get a downgraded toned down "Ghetto" port of the games. A dark day indeed for the platform that once pushed the envelope.

You pretty much hit it on the head after describing your super duper gaming rig. The number of people willing to spend thousands of dollars on a top of the line gaming machine and constantly dump more money in to chase the top performance rung year after year is tiny. By comparison you spend $300-$400 on a console that still gives decent performance and if anything happens to it you spend $300 to $400 on another console. No screwing with drivers, windows updates, game patches come faster to consoles (and fewer are needed), etc.

I would not be foolish enough to argue that gaming on my PS3 is 'superior' to PC gaming (and I use to be a hard core PC gamer) but the advantage of my PS3 is that I pop the disk in and play when I want with zero concerns about other players having a performance advantage over me due to them having better hardware, worrying about a title not working because of a recent DirectX or driver update, etc.

Not to mention that I have a bad back and can comfortably play a game on my PS3 for an hour that would leave me with a sore neck if I played that long sitting in a chair in front of a PC monitor.

In any event, seriously OT, bring on the new Dune players so that I might pick them apart! I got response from them today that they might add my request for forced subtitle support from MKVs to the next feature poll that they do.

Yes in the 90's and early 2000's I was upgrading my PCs to the top of the line components every 4 to 6 months. I still can't believe all the money I put into it. But at the time I loved PC gaming alot more than console gaming(well I did like some of the nintendo games back then). Plus I fell in love with online multiplayer gaming with the descent games. But once I got the 360 in 2005, that all changed. With good games, easy online multiplayer, etc. And now I only get passively cooled video cards. And have no desire to go back to PC gaming.

And I guess on topic, is Duneplayer still the only place taking preorders for the new Dunes?

Don't you miss the control of Mouse/Keyboard setup and the sharp/crisp graphics? Do you remember Doom,Duke Nukem 3D,Mech Warrior 2, Falcon 4, Deus Ex,Quake, Quake 2, Unreal,Halflife, Farcry, Doom3, Crysis, etc...All broke new ground with each release. They pushed the envelope. The Consoles are stale already and the control is horrible.

Now back on topic.
