Nevermind, had a program that was a duplicate on two drives.

So I borrowed another SD card, just to make sure the one I had wasn't "bad" (even though I was able to initialize and browse it in the Dune). No luck with the new SD card either; same error message. I was just about to post that I can't believe no one has set their system storage to use the built-in SD slot; I mean, if not for that, what in the hell is it there for anyway

And that's when it hit me...that's exactly what my PopBox does. So I grabbed its 2G SD card (whereas my other 2 had been...don't laugh...256M), and it worked just fine. So...size matters, fyi.

After setting up the system storage, I went to pop-up right-click on the Zappiti shortcut. I seem to remember the option used to be to pin a shortcut to the Main screen; I didn't see that option now...is the new method to pin it to Favorites?

Yeah, shortcuts get pinned to favorites

I have a strange problem with my Max. When I play a blu ray disc, everything is fine. The menu has a strong green cast, and when I play network files, they also have a green cast. I made several changes at once. I am running through a new receiver (yamaha RCA 3000), went from component to hdmi, and updated firmware. Any ideas on how to fix this? TIA.
Changing output colorspace under advanced video settings from auto to rgb full seems to have fixed this.

So...you've definitely gotten it to work with an SD card? Because I'll try a "virgin" card if you think that's what it'll take.

CD

Yes. It doesn't have to be virginal. I have recycled an already-formatted 4GB SDHC card. Just delete the existing partition and let the Dune initialize it.

If you guys want netflix on dune, there is a petition for it. Please sign.

Now i think netflix is garbage. Well netflix america which i tried last week is ok, netflix canada is awful. However for 7 dollars a month i do subscribe. Basically if i have nothing on the dune or were not in the mood to watch anything, and there is nothing on tv either, we will use netflix. Its a good 3rd choice back up. If i had the american version I would probably use it more, but im not paying another 5 dollars a month so i can access it as a canadian (would be 12 monthly for me which is to much compared to how often i use it)

Regardless of my rant, i think it would be nice if dune added it. Its a pretty normal option for streamers.

I think part of the issue is that the current Dune hardware to does not meet Netflix's standards (I think the Sigma chip needs to go through certification)

I want Netflix but not if the certification requires Cinavia support. Not saying it would but with new chips coming I'm a bit concerned about that.

As of now Cinavia does not go hand in hand with Netflix certification but who knows down the road. I personally think Netflix is overrated but I understand why it interests people.

Has any internet petition, ever, accomplished anything?

Especially ones you can sign 500 times with 500 different, fake, names?

If you actually hope to make this happen, and the hardware meets their specs, then encourage folks to directly contact netflix and ask for it. An internet petition is worth less than the paper it's not even printed on.

(though to be honest I'd be surprised, given the Dune is at the higher end of the streamer market, if most Dune owners don't already have other devices that do netflix, probably more than one.... tivo, xbox, ps3, wii, tv itself, etc, etc...)... or heck, can't you use playon to do it ON a dune too?

I am looking for an external drive enclosure to use with a Dune that meets the following:
- holds 2 drives at least 2TB ea
- preferably eSATA interface but USB 2.0 would work
- JBOD would be really nice but also can do without.
- No other RAID needed.
- Below $100, preferably in the $50 range but may not be there.

Rosewell makes one on Newegg that goes for about $40, USB 2.0, 2 drives in JBOD, and evem has pretty good ratings. However it is only good to 1TB per drive. I might as well get a 2 TB drive and single enclosure.

What would you use eSATA for, to connect to the Dune? I am not 100% positive but i don't think the eSata port on the Dune is port multiplier aware, so you would only be able to see 1 drive. Otherwise just stick with USB 2.0, each drive in the enclosure will be independent

I have always liked the SANS Digital enclosures, but may be above your price point

Can someone please explain to me the ramifications of changing the output colorspace setting?

I did not think the Dune would allow colorspace selection. I know that it forces 4:4:4 colorspace which is less than desirable. I would prefer 4:2:2 but with my Dune Base at least, there is no way to change it. There is video processing going on that shouldn't be there. This is why we need a source direct mode for the Dune players. I have requested it but it's not really on their radar.

Who knew? Glad you solved that.

And if you use the "plain" theme (working from memory now, not sure what it's called), your Favorites will appear on the first page. You won't have to drill down for them.

If you want an argument from me, you'll have to change the subject. Once they started charging explicitly for streaming, I dropped it.

It is under Setup>Video>Advanced settings

The options are Auto, BT.601, BT.709, RGB-Full, and RGB-limited. Auto is the default, but it gave me the green screen.

Its the thing that is keeping me from buying a Dune. I really want what it has to offer, but not at the expense of imperfect output. Especially since my receiver only passes 16-235 color.

Interesting...is there only one conversion if one selects RGB-limited? I know that it has to be converted to RGB somewhere along the chain from blu-ray to screen, so it might as well be in the Dune, as long as the conversion is high quality.

The Dune actually looks very good. I've never seen anything it does where I thought the color space conversion was bad. Since it can output RGB-Limited, your receiver passing 16-235 should not be a problem.

I think you're missing out if this is the only reason for not getting a Dune. I absolutely have the fact that it doesn't have a source-direct output option, but (in spite of that), I rather enjoy owning one.

Petition is not mine, and I have no idea what internet petitions accomplish I have never used one. But I was willing to sign, took 20 seconds. And that link I posted does encourage people to contact netflix as well with the email address if you click on it.

Dune passes 16-235 levels fine. It just outputs 4:4:4, yes 4:2:2 is desirable but i cant notice a difference.

If you check secrets home theater alot of the current players from pioneer for example also output 4:4:4.

Thanks, I wasn't thinking about the port multiplier issue and can use USB2.0 no problem. However, maybe you can explain this.

I looked up Sans Digital on Newegg, and found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816111036

It has two eSATA ports on the back, which makes sense to eliminate a port multiplier. However, this product also says it will run JBOD. JBOD essentially turns multiple drives into one drive. How can it be one drive if it has to be read across two ports? How does it come out as one drive back inside the windows 7 computer that will see 2 separate SATA devices?

Here is one I think I would be looking for: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816111038

It does note what your saying about needing a port multiplier for eSATA, but still not sure how 2 ports = 1 drive on the other model.

Unfortunately there are two different accepted meanings for JBOD. What you are talking about is more commonly called SPAN, where multiple drives are concatenated into one. Traditional JBOD means the host sees separate drives.

Yeah, exactly, some confusion with the terms. For example, with JBOD and if the host is port multiplier aware then the host will see the drives as one big drive (this is how my WHS works when connecting a Sans enclosure to). However, JBOD when not using a port multiplier aware host just means you can add any disk size you want and the host will see each drive as a separate drive

if the enclosure supports spanning, then I don't see why port multiplier would be needed. To the host it is indistinguishable from one large disk.
