Get two USB Thumb drives 4gb minimum. Connect one drive, go to utilities, and there will be a sub menu for the USB ports where you tell it to create system storage. Once complete, connect the second drive which will allow you to store your jukebox index locally for faster browsing.

I just finished setting this up and was able to execute the dsf file with just one thumb drive. Basically, i saved the dsf files to a shared folder and executed from there. Is there a reason why you would need two thumb drives?

If you'll reread the post you quoted, he said the second thumb drive was for index storage. It's faster to browse through movies this way. See http://scottjohnson.org/wiki/Dune/In...on_Performance.

You could do both system storage and index on one large thumb drive, but that's more complicated to set up.

So after doing a little more reading I've managed to get the system storage working fine. yaDIS is setup and displays all my movies but no matter which movie I try to play, I get the error

Failed to open URL

URL: smb://192.168.xxx.xxx/Movies/moviefoldername/movie.mkv.

If I try playing the same movie through the network browser, it plays just fine.

Can anyone help?

I have a Smart B1 but I would think that the Max should handle sys memory the same way. It has been quite a while but as I recall I did not have any luck formatting my card with the PC either. I ended up deleting the partitions with the PC. Starting with a completely clean SD card, I used one of the DSFs to do the work on the Dune. You insert the clean SD, put the DSF on a USB memory stick (or HDD). You execute the DSF from the USB and it does the work. The description below was copied from the Dune Wiki that I linked in the earlier post.

- Dune_service_af_make_sstorage_and_ext3_on_sdc.dsf
Searches for a blank SD flash memory cards (without partitions or with a blank partition) size more than 2GB, and it creates two aligned sections, the first 2GB, second - for the rest of place. The first section is installed as a system drive. The second section is formatted in EXT3 with the standard cluster size.

The DSF described above is contained in this zip http://nmt200.ru/wp-content/uploads/...ne_ext_dsf.zip

Good luck,

Its got nothing to do with anything, and yes its so generic thats my point!

Certain WB titles wont play converted to iso, but will play as a bdmv file. As i mentioned a few posts up i have to convert tv shows to iso because fred l only supports bdmv files in yadis as movies, no support for bdmv files as tv, and i have no idea why.

This is the first error i ever experienced on my dune, all other blu-rays and iso's play fine.

This is a well known issue, certain wb blu-rays wont play converted to iso.

Another user reported these titles for instance.

"The reason I want gig is because over the past month I have had problems playing newer WB Warner Home Video blu-ray iso's on my Dune Max across the network from my unRAID server. Sometimes they work and sometimes you get an I/O error after the previews. I don't have a problem with non-WB Blu-ray iso's. Some of the movies include Hall Pass, Red Riding Hood, Unknown, and Something Borrowed."

Any update on this? I just tried to backup Unknown and discovered this problem.

Well 192.168.xxx.xxx is not a valid IP address, if that is the actual address the player is trying to open.

Check the setup of the index generator you are using - somewhere you likely need to enter the actual IP address of your movie store (computer, NAS, whatever).

I just tried Unknown after reading your post, and my ISO plays fine through yaDIS. I ripped it with DVDfab (main movie only.) I'm curious, what problem are you having with this movie?

I have this movie ripped to ISO but on a local drive, I have no problems also.

Thanks for the replies.

After the previews when trying to go to root menu I get a message something like "i/o error.......". I ripped the whole disc using AnyDVD and playing through Zappiti.

I don't suppose this is a 3TB USB drive?

I have the same thing with WB discs trying to play back full ISO rips. The movies are on 4 internal 3 TB hard drives in a USB enclosure.

Also, does anyone know or could they test to see if the Android mobile app iMediaShare detects the Dune and can select/play music (on their home theater, not on their phone). I was able to use other apps to do this with my HTPC and loved being outside with outdoor speakers. If I can accomplish this with the Dune I will be in love.

https://market.android.com/details?i...YW5vci5hbXMiXQ..

In case anyone else was interested in my questions I emailed Diamond Design and got some answers.

1. They believe the new Dune HD Max won't be released until late 2012, in Sept or October. I would like to hold out but that is just too far off for me given how tired I am with my HTPC.

2. They didn't know if iMediaShare works for remote queuing music. Looks like I'll contact the dev.

So if I do decide to pull the trigger, what is with the 3 internal USB options? I don't get its purpose if there are USB ports, and the reasoning behind the options. Also I imagine the NTFS is what I should get, but what is the EXT3 option for?

The same thing I have heard about new models around the SMP8910 chip, don't expect until second half of the year

You can use USB on the inside or outside. No difference except the inside isn't seen anymore and can't be pulled out by kids, etc. and frees up slots for wireless keyboards, other USB, etc. The 2gb is for system storage only. The other two sizes are for system storage plus regular storage (for mymovies, etc.)
For hard drives (SSD or HDD) the NTFS choice is important if you have windows devices you want to connect them to for faster transfer of movies to the disks but for internal USB its not as important.

Oh ok, makes perfect sense and sounds pretty useful. I notice your screen name, you should expect an order from me sometime this morning.

Why an ISO, they load slowly and could have playback issues (see:
(I haven't made 3 posts - so I cannot post links yet, but here is the basic link - just fill in the rest scottjohnson'x'org/wiki/Dune ).

As to the message, just hit skip chapter (forward), and you're off to the movie, no issues...

Personally, I use either folder rips or MakeMkv (which I have not had any issues w/ at all), some other folks seem to have troubles (w/ makemkv), but I've used this app w/ over 100 flicks - no troubles (I only convert the main title, and shed the other stuff (on top bar, right click and select 'unselect all' - then pick out the main title and convert)) - it is a fine app, and as to using eac3to + mkvmerge, why spend 1-3 hours to get the same result?? - IMHO...

because as you said, "some other folks seem to have troubles (w/ makemkv). I would be one of them. I also like iso files in case I need to burna copy for traveling or whatever. Folder rips are fine, I just like the convenience of the iso file. Makemkv is not an option for me right now. If I could get a handle on clownbd I would probably switch to that..

There seems to be no issues with wb movies converted to iso if its just the main movie.

The problem is when you do a full rip of a wb movie converted to iso. Full movie rips in BDMV folder structure also work fine.

Its the strangest most perplexing thing I ever encountered I have no idea why this absurd error does not get more attention from dune.

If you can specify if you did the full disc, then we can narrow this down further. Then it would be 1. WB 2. Iso 3. Full Movie 4. Streaming only

Because he ripped the entire folder structure. Like I do.

Any recommendations for USB network adapters? I've seen D-Link DWA-140 and DWA-160 mentioned but would like to hear good experiences with these or others. I saw the compatibility list which is extensive and overwhelming to just choose from. Finding the correct rev number will be fun too, especially with the few local retailers marking adapters much higher than online. I'd feel much better about dealing with ebay if other Dune users are confident in a particular model. Range and bandwidth are priority over price but I'm not made of money either.

I ripped the full disc, but like I said, this is on an external USB drive connected directly to the Dune
post #6385 of 10126
I no longer have any of my hard drives connected directly to the Dune and I'm too lazy to move them but I think the issue is due to ripping the full disc as an ISO and trying to stream it over the network using SMB in my case. I'm not sure if anyone has run into this issue using NSF but I know that there are several WB discs that I've tried that will play the trailers and other crap before the movie then throw that I/O error when it tries to load the main menu or just give a black screen when you try to play the ISO. I've had this same problem with my Avatar disc even though it's a Fox release. The MKV had issues with the subtitles not going away but I can play the movie-only ISO with no issue.

Ok I seem to be having issues again with playback. As a recap, my server is running server 2008 R2. We tried to watch sound of music BD and we are having a bunch of stuttering. Switching to the regular DVD version plays fine. Going from server to gigabit HP switch and to Dune. Couple things I'm wondering about 1) patch cable for dune. In an effort to clean my rack, I made a new patch cable and haven't been able to test it yet with my meter. I did a speed test after putting in the. Rs cable and was getting about 8Mb per second after about 15 seconds of ramp. The other thing I'm wondering about, is that I recently setup my dives with a mirror each through the server disk management console. Essentially i have multiple raid 1 arrays. Any thoughts on this??

By the way, sharing via SMB.

Did you really mean 8 megabits per second or 8 megabytes per second? You would be better off creating a raid 5 array. More disc spindles at once and less waste of space for error correction/detection. NFS would be a little faster as it is a protocol with a little less overhead but SMB should work fine for what you have. Make sure that the Dune is not in gigabit test mode and that you have jumbo frames turned off on the switch and on your pc.

I will review my server and switch settings. I can't even find a setting on the dune for gigabit test mode. All I see is connection type (hard wired, wireless, Poe, none), settings for dhcp or static, and then the static ip setup. Nothing for gigabit test. On another setup screen, though, I saw something about fast SMB access. This is currently disabled. What does that do?
You must enable "Fast SMB" to see full speed.
