Did you read the wiki page I pointed to above? Was it unclear? Because if it doesn't answer your questions, I want to improve it so that it does.

I am trying it right now...

The only part I didn't understand was the last part:

Then edit the bat file to comment out the "modify meta" step. (Otherwise you end up with two copies of the forced subs.)

It would seem the Kyoto series of chips are quite on par with the sigma chip this the chip in the Oppo which seems all people can talk about for 3D Bluray! I bet money Dune is not selling like crazy. I understand what Dune has in Sigma but if you think Dune is gonna stop making players if Sigma were to go under think again!

I am sure dune has tested them all out, I bet they have reference boards for almost every chip, the main issue with the marvell chips is the SDK is just not up to par yet its still very new and fresh. Look at all the players that came out with the armada 1000 most of them had down right terrible reviews. And they kyoto line is not something you would run a media stream on you would go with the armada line. The kyoto line is for an upscaller not a full fledged SoC. Product brief on Kyoto http://www.marvell.com/digital-enter...duct_brief.pdf product brief on aramada http://www.marvell.com/digital-enter...duct-Brief.pdf

As you see the kyoto series is nothing more then a video processor its lacking everything you would need for a media streamer, If marvell stays in the market it will take at least another year to get a decent sdk out of them,

Anytime you come across a movie where clown shows forced subs are present, just do a full disc copy with anydvd.

I don't think Clown always knows. That's part of the problem here.

Where do you actually see ClownBD displaying that there are forced subs? I am not sure I've ever seen it.

Even though eac3to recognises forced subs... clown does not give me the option to choose them:
I use clown_bd to demux and mkvmerge to create an mkv. Clown saves all of the individual pieces on my drive and if there are forced subs, it marks one of the subs files as forced. When that happens, I delete the files and do a whole disc rip. This has caught most of my issues. I used to try to work with it but life is too short. Full disc rips are just easier. If there are files where Clown missed the forced subs (and I have no doubt they exist), I haven't seen them yet.
Now I feel like a big DUFUS... the file BDSup2Sub.jar... which I think is responsible for FORCED subs... was mysteriously missing from the BDSup2Sub Folder...

Wow... I feel stupid!

But I still don't see any indication of Forced Dubs in Step 3 of ClownBD

I've been using a Dune B1 for almost a year now but have only been watching ripped blu-rays... and no issues. I've recently ripped a DVD and when I play it back I get black bars on all 4 sides so the display is just in the center of the screen. The zoom feature works but looks crappy (wavy lines on horizontal edges). Is this the best option for resolving this?

Some DVDs are non-anamorphic, so they normally play that way. Try a different title that is known to be 16:9.

What rdgrimes said about non-anamorphic...with more information. These are often called letter-boxed videos and often pretty bad transfers and often look terrible when they are zoomed full screen. The best solution (IMHO) is to view then un-zoomed, and live with the black bars. DVDs with high quality transfers can look quite good when played on the Dune.

Thanks rdgrimes and hyrax,

At least I know it's not an issue with the rip or player setup... just a low quality DVD. Thanks for the info!

The only really "good" option for zooming such letterboxed SD content that I've seen is the Oppo BDP-83 (or DV983) with the ABT processor. Of course there are still DVDs with such dismal image quality that even the ABT can't help it. Other options with the same ABT processor are the DVDO-Edge products and a few AVRs with the same chip. The ABT has a zoom mode designed specifically for this situation. Thankfully it doesn't come up very often these days.

Hmm, I've been focused on the Dune and am not familiar with the Oppo. Just curious, does the Oppo handle blu-ray over network as well as the dune (support for BDMV and menus)? Thanks for the info!

no

Does mediainfo properly display bluray and DVD rip aspect ratios? Not just 16:9, but 2.37, 1.85, etc?
No, it's always 16:9

Could you please share directory structure for zappiti to index properly for any of the following documentaries.

The universe
Human planet
Human body pushing the limits
Life
waterlife

I want to create iso files and put them properly. I also want to give description if file name/directory name if possible, if I need to view them from Oppo player which does not support zappiti

Based on research, I am assuming following is naming convention for tools like zappiti. Appreciate for any feedback. File names are too long. I wonder if I can remove prefix like "Human Planet", since it is already used to name the parent folder.

I did name using Name of serial/Season number/Name of serial - season number x episode1xepisode2 - Description of parts in the serial.

Having problems with Zappiti V 2.4.7.0. Everytime I try to run Zappiti it crashes on me. It starts reading my database but that is as far as it goes. I have used this version earlier with no problem. I only erased a couple of TV shows from my server. Any ideas? Is there a problem that I am not aware of this version.
TIA

Cropping question.

Ok first the following is I dont ruin my new plasma:

I am wondering if there is a way to convert my BD iso files from 2.35:1 to 16x9?

My two year old LOVES Cars, and Cars 2, and Ratatouille. But he wants to watch them over and over again and I dont want the black bars on the top and bottom to unevenly wear my 64" plasma. Since these movies are 2.35:1 I want to convert them to 1.85:1. So Can I crop them to 16x9? I know that it will cut off the sides, but I dont care and my 2 year old wont complain either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. The only thing I could do was to change the resolution output on my D1 to 480p and then my TV let me zoom2 mode but it looked horrible and then I have to change it back evertime I want to watch a movie.

So best case solution would be a program that will take BD iso or BDMV folder and open them and let me crop the file and output as something similar the dune can handle. Next solution if thats really tough would be a program that will do the same but maybe with DVDs and I can buy the discs and do that.

Thanks!

You could buy a scaler Lumange Mini or DVDO Edge and use it to zoom the display. The mini is awesome.

Personally, I would not worry about it unless you start to see a problem. It ready creeps up on you slowly.

Blu-ray players like Oppo 93 and Dune also can zoom right? Is it really better with lumagen mini 3d?

I also wonder if Lumagen is releasing any new products. I want to wait for 2 hdmi outputs.

How new is the TV? If you have a couple hundred hours on it, its a non issue. The only thing to keep an eye on would be channel logos and tickers like ESPN. I have a Panasonic VT30 and watch a lot of movies and the black bars are a non issue with burn in or image retention.

May I suggest that you play your movies in BD-Lite mode, this will allow you to use the zoom feature. None of the movies you mentioned have forced subtitles, so you would not sacrifice any part of the viewing experience

Why convert. just zoom on the Fly. your TV can do this too......

and BTW: YADIS doesn't seem to know that:

"batman_begins"

is that same as "batman begins"

It seems to be the only metadata agent that doesn't ignore _'s.

There are pleny of bugs I have found in Zappiti. Sounds like you managed to corrupt the database like I did. you can manually delete (I dont remember how I did this or you can re-install). Either way your database is toast and your starting over again. And remember all software has bugs, just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you.

My movies in Yadis are very oddly categorized. I have them grouped by sagas and my Star Wars collection is all out of order within the sagas. They are not even alphabetically out of order. Is there any way to manually change the order they are in?

Edit:
Nvm, I figured it out.

I agree with others that channel logos and tickers are a greater risk to Plasma's.

Lumagen has an XS model with two outputs but it starts to cost.
MSRP is $3K but you can get it for less. I use mine with graybars masking the logo and tickers for news programs. This type of product is way overkill.

I also have no problems on my Gt30 from full screen and widescreen movies.
