8/9mb/s is enough for any HD streaming, even the biggest ones. Did you try to turn on the Fast SMB option in the Dune set up. most of the time it can solve stuttering problems.

8 or 9 Mbps is nowhere close to what is needed... now 8 or 9 MBps will do just fine.

I think we were speaking about MB/s from the start, not Mbps...

PS : sorry for my mistake but i'm french and we don't use Bytes (but we do use Bits), so it's not always easy to adapt

What is the correct "folder" name when setting up the Dune Smart B1 in order to access shared folder on Windows 7 PC? I selected SMB, entered the IP of the laptop, shared the folder for "everyone". What should I enter under "folder". The folder name is "Movies". Under "Properties" the description name is "Movies (\\\\HAL-11000)" HAL-11000 is the laptop name.

Thanks

If you navigate to the shared folder in the Dune, use the pop-up menu and select the option to create your network folder. If you're not worried about LAN security, just let the player set it up as a guest user. No fiddling with entering anything this way.

Now I got another problem. The Dune plays fine the files from the shared folder, but I cannot see it under "Network" and save the index for Mymovies to the Dune. This is not a Dune problem, since I cannot see the Synology NAS and my Brother network printer either. The devices are functioning fine otherwise, I just can't see them in the network map. The maddening thing is that sometimes after a reboot I would be able see all of them and then they would dissapear after a while. I guess that stars need to be alligned in a certain way. I have tryed everything; disabled the windows firewall service, antivirus, router rirewall, static vs DHCP address, ipV6 no go. I have three computers on the same network, all running Win 7 Ultimate x64. They can see each other, but not the other three network devices.

Windows is a bit weird when it comes to networking - sometimes strange things happen for no apparent reason. A bit of research can often turn up the solution but not always.

For example while I could create network folders in Dune and they worked fine the Dune network browser app never did.

And then one day it was working and I could see all of my devices which had shares.

As far as I no I changed nothing but clearly something had changed - perhaps some Windows update - who knows.

Weird things just sometimes happen in Windows and it can be very frustrating.

Have you tried checking Network Discovery?

I did, no go. Also, the Dune player does not show up in the list under "media streaming options", "show devices". When I select show devices on "all networks" I even see some devices that have since been disconnected but not the Dune. It seems to me that I somehow need to force windows to rescan the network again and see the changes. I have rebooted the PC multiple times.

I have the exact same issue with my QNAP and Dune. Windows 7 won't see them. I can put in the path directly and go to it. On my Mac devices, it is not a problem.

The original favorites (shortcuts) I had set up for Zappitti pulled the actual icon graphics and text with them. Since I reformatted system storage and set them up again, I just get a gray icon with a star in the middle and they are labeled "3" and "5" (they are the 3rd and 5th icons in Zappiti, and think this is what they are officially called even though they are titled TV Shows and Genre).

I have tried everything I can figure and can't seem to get it to pull the title and icon graphic like it used too. I have done a soft reset on the dune, which didn't help either.

Anyone have this issue setting up Zappitti shortcuts?

Yes, I did. I think this will fix your Favorite icon issue. On the Dune, go into Setup, Appearance. Under "Default folder view:" you probably had it set to "List" when you created your Favorites. It cannot be set to "List". If it is, you will get the Star icon for each Favorite you create. I temporarily changed "Default folder view:" to "Icons 5x4". Icons 5x4 made the Zappiti 'Z' red icon bigger on the Favorites page as opposed to choosing the smaller "Icon 3x2" or "Icon 4x2" sizes. Now navigate back to Sources and recreate your Favorite. It should now have the correct icon. You can go back into Setup, Appearance, "Default folder view:" and change this back to "List" after you create your Favorites. It will not change the Favorite icon once it has been created. Each time you add or update your Favorites, you have to temporarily change "Default folder view:" to Icons 5x4.

I had a strange problem on my Dune the other day. I have used Zappiti in the past and wanted to try yaDIS. After scraping, yaDIS looked fine on my PC but was leaving a few empty spaces on my Dune where the movie icon picture should have been. I later added a new movie to my collection and noticed now Zappiti was doing the same thing, leaving an empty space for the icon with no picture. I could hightlight the blank icon and press Enter and the new movie woud play fine. I keep my Zappiti and yaDIS on my 8GB SD card in my Dune. It is partitoned as 4GB NTFS and 4GB System Storage. I like using the SD card because it is in the front of my unit which makes it easy to access and totally hidden when inserted. Anyway, I finally figured out the problem. The 4GB SD partition was out of space. Both Zappiti and yaDIS never said anything about it being out of disk space while performing "Export to Dune". Zappiti was using 780MB so I assumed yaDIS would use approx. the same. Nope, yaDIS was using over 2GB for the same movies. Just thought I would pass this on.

That's good to know. I was thinking of trying out Yadis, but I'm happy with Zappiti. It is easy and simple to use. It might not have a super duper metadatas, but they work for me and my family

some templates for yadis can use a lot of space for TV shows. Check in your dune interface the size of the aai file for an episode (/yadis/01/nameoftheshow/seasonnumber/01 for example). If the aai is 8MB, then you should change your template for another and save space.

FYI, if you're using one of my templates, i made an update a few weeks ago that will help you to save up to 60% space for every episode...

You can also switch to jpg backdrops instead of aai for your movies. For this just select the option in yadis set-up (in the interface tab)

Are all of your hosts set to the same workgroup name?

What is the path to the Dune if you want to save the MyMovies Index to the device?

Thanks for this. I will definitely try when I get back home this weekend.

I think I was in an icon view when I created them but maybe not 5x4.

I am planning to order two dune players for my friend. I have smart h1 but not d1.

What kind of information is displayed on D1 and how useful it is vs smart h1 without display. Appreciate any quick reply.

I have both the H1 and the D1 and I can honestly say I looked at the display on the D1 maybe twice

Displays the Time, I know it displays the name of the movie you are watching. Not sure what else.

If I did it over again I would have just bought all H1 units and saved the money

A lot of people WITH the display bitch about how the clock disappears as well, so it REALLY does get to be worthless. I never ever used mine...

Also, I will be listing two of my H1 for sale shortly in the FS section as well as the add one blu ray unit with connecting bracket as I replaced my two with MAX units.
No, it will NOT be a fire sale... :-) but will still be cheaper than buying a new one..

Can you PM me some info on them? Been looking at H1 for my set up.

I really like having the display show the elapsed time. Gives me a great idea how far in to something I am.

you must sit awful close to it or have eyes like a Hawk to be able to read that thing! :-)
That's what the "info" button is for! :-)

About 11-12' away from it. It's pretty easy to see at that distance. I don't have control of the remote a lot so the display is really handy.

Can someone explain in simple terms how I can get the Dune H1 to have access to a particular folder ("Downloads") on my home PC? the Dune can see the network and It can access files in that folder if i go through Tversity or ps3 media server...but those are transcoders. I want to simply go directly to a file. I"ve allowed sharing permissions and have attempted to add a network folder by using the PC's IP address and the folder name but I must be doing something wrong.
