New Dune HD Max and HD Smart anticipation thread Q3 2010 - Page 277

I think the warranty on the Dune is at least one year and possibly two.
I contacted the seller, mediaplayersolutions.com and opened a ticket with Dune-hd.com

I may try popping the hood as a last resort. Hopefully I'll here something in the next 48 hours from one or both places. I'll post how it goes.

I added a new 2tb harddrive to my Dune. I noticed that the upgraded Zappiti changed the way to add a network drive - now it should be a piece of cake.

Configure - Files tab - new folder - add shared network folder - add new hard drive : done

Only problem is Zappiti does not see my Dune or anything on my home network. The Dune and all the drives are visible in windows explorer but not when I tried to map to the dune.

I tried to set the drive up the old school way but there does not seem to be a way to manually enter network drive addresses anymore.

This makes no sense because my current network drives work fine with Zappiti so it has access to my network, it just does not show the network as selectable option via the new add folder system.

Workarounds?

Thanks!

Now I have another problem related to this. Somehow one of my drives was renamed from:

DunHDD_random numbers and letters
to
Storage_random numbers and letters

Two problems. One, Zappiti wants to delete the meta information of all the movies on the renamed drive. Two, I have no idea how to add the drive again due to the problem from my previous post below.

So now I have two drives that I can't add to Zappiti - an old drive full of movies and the new drive I just added.

Ideally, I would like to have the old drive named the same as before so I don't need to delete all the meta info and rescrape everything again. But I have no idea why the drive name changed or how to change it back to what it was.

I am going to look at the Dune interface to see if there is a drive name setting or something.

Any ideas?

I can't help with the Zappiti issues but here's how to rename a drive on the Dune.

Movies (ISOs, mostly Blu some DVD) are spread across 4 drives in a 4 bay USB box. I initially alphabetized my movies and separated them into folders like A_B_C, D_E_F, etc. and then distributed them across the drives. For example my 4th hard drive contains all movies P-Z.

I did this because I was using Oppo 93 and it does not have any kind of file management.

Using a Win7 notebook. I will only be using USB enclosure directly hooked up to the Dune

So, after reading through all the threads I know I must have each movie in their own folder for MM & Dune. I will be using File2Folder to do this.

I will keep my index in the Dune on an SDHC card following drew.c formatting scheme.

My stupid question is which MM do I download? I'm thinking the MMCM?

I'm pretty sure MM no longer requires each ISO in its own folder. Try it first before going to the trouble of moving all of them.

Yes you want MMCM.

What is "drew.c formatting scheme"?

To format the SD card I recommend dune_service_af_make_sstorage_and_ext3_on_sdc.dsf.

Hmmm... there may be a Dune Smart 301 review on the horizon

I'll give it a try.
However, I am not sure if it will solve things. Dune used to label my USB externals cleanly as:

USB Storage 1
USB Storage 2

now it labels them as

Dune Storage k58g0
Dune Storage ds4lfj

However my network used to show the drives something like:

\\\\DUNE\\DuneHDD_77d3eb24_abfe_4cb0_8cc0_7395dfc0a697
\\\\DUNE\\DuneHDD_87d3kj24_abfe_5lkiu_8cc0_7395dfc0a878

now 2 of these drives show up on the network as:

\\\\DUNE\\STORAGE_k58g0
\\\\DUNE\\STORAGE_ds4lfj

So even if I could rename them as USB Storage x I am not sure if that would change the drive name my computer sees.

The weird thing is 2 of my drives have the new naming convention at the Dune but two of the drives still have the old label of USB Storage 1 & 2

Would mpcclub be the best place to get help with Zappiti? I have used it for two years and never really had any problems. It seems I'll just need to delete the meta data and start over.

But even if I do that, Zappiti can't see my network to reconnect the drives. Every other program on my computer can drill down and see my network folders and files except Zappiti

To format the SD card I recommend dune_service_af_make_sstorage_and_ext3_on_sdc.dsf.

But then the SD card (or flash drive) can not be moved to a Windows machine (for maintenance, etc.) [because the jukebox/index is on a Linux ext3 partition].

When a similar discussion came up 8 months ago, I suggested[in link] a simple hack of modifying the "SysStoragePlusNTFSonHDD" .dsf so that the NTFS partition was first (where Windows will see it).

It should take about 10-20 minutes to modify that .dsf to create a new .dsf for "NTFSPlusSysStorageOnSDC". (I don't have a Dune, so I don't have the motivation ).

Without a .dsf, one must either prep the SD/flash on Linux (using fdisk), or Windows (following the approach by drew.c [link].

It's more complicated than 10-20 mins because it creates the system storage as 2GB, then tells fdisk to use all the remaining for the data partition. If I put the data partition first then I will have to first calculate its size using some other method. Unless you know of a way to tell fdisk or parted "use all space except 2GB"?

I also have little motivation to do this since I've never had a need to move my index storage to a PC.

Hello everyone

I'm planning to buy some media players for my store to showcase some clips around. Mainly for design purpose.

Going through this forum for a few days I believe Dune D1 or H1 is suitable for me.

But one question I need to figure out before my decision.

Will the player show any icon when play, pause, stop, repeat on screen?
Will any On Screen Display show up when changing titles or chapters?
I don't want any of these show up on screen, Is there any option to turn them off?

One could use arithmetic (in bash).

Has anyone had issue/success playing chronicles of Narnia voyage of the dawn treader? I just get a black screen like it never loads. When I tried to DVDFab lady and the tramp, I had an issue where I couldn't rip. when I tried playing in my standalone bluray player I got black screen with sound only. I downloaded the fab update and it then ripped fine.

I tried voyage on my standalone player and had the same issue (black screen with audio only) however DVDFab ripped it fine.

Any thoughts?
So are you saying you try to play the original disc and get a black screen or an ISO?

Play ISO through dune= black screen no audio.
Play disc in Samsung player= black screen plus audio.
As stated, had something similar with lady and the tramp, but in that case I couldn't even rip to ISO until I did a SW update.

Strange my ISO has been fine, made mine with anydvd/clown bd movie only. Is yours movie only or full disc?

Full disc. Will see if there is any software update, and if so install and rerip.
Try rip movie only and see if that helps

Anyone here using their Dune to stream from an unRAID machine?
I and many others do. It works great for me.

I'm thinking of abandoning my WHS because I just can't get it working and don't want the headaches of Windows anymore. I would want to use this for movies only. All other content I would probably put on a small NAS box for my wife (pictures, music, etc.).

I just started out using Dune and unRAID, and it works fine. I use Zappiti, and until recently, saved the Zappiti files on the unRAID server itself. However, when the unRAID disks were spun down, Zappiti would take a while to respond, so I recently purchased an SD card and now copy Zappiti onto that instead.

Interestingly, I have problems copying to the SD card while it's installed in the Dune - several icons are missing for movies and genres, and when clicking on the movie screen, instead of it launching the movie, I get another screen for the "launcher".

I solved that by inserting the SD card into my computer to export Zappiti onto it, then reinsert it into the Dune. A hassle, to be sure.

Cheers, Carl.

I've got the same set up as well. I keep my Zappti output files in the unraid server. When the server is spun down, it takes about 12 seconds for it to respond. Then depending on which drive the movies it, it might take another 12 seconds to play the movie, which is acceptable to me.

Interesting. I don't know much about unraid but I'm starting to read a bit. I know this isn't the appropriate area for discussion but can you tell me how your shares are setup? Can the share show up as just one name like "Movies" and not a lot of different drives?

Yes, here is the thread for unRAID.
