Interestingly, I have problems copying to the SD card while it's installed in the Dune - several icons are missing for movies and genres, and when clicking on the movie screen, instead of it launching the movie, I get another screen for the "launcher".
I solved that by inserting the SD card into my computer to export Zappiti onto it, then reinsert it into the Dune. A hassle, to be sure.
Cheers, Carl.

When you installed Z, you installed it to the SD card? I was just about to attempt that.

Has anyone started using the newer version of Zappiti?

It is supposed to load faster and it really doesn't. It has an enhanced scanning / scrapping engine but it seems MUCH slower.

Is it just mine or are others experiencing this?

Which one are you using? The last few beta releases have been very buggy. I think I am on 2.0.7 or something, scraping is very fast

Carl -

I first installed exported Z to the unRAID, but due to the sluggishness as it had to spin up the drives, I then exported it to the SD card. Now Z will launch instantly, and instead of a 2-5 second lag every time I changed menus, I get that lag once, when starting to play a show on a drive which has spun down.

However, this only works if I:

1. Turn off the Dune.
2. Remove the SD card and insert it in my PC.
3. Export to the SD card.
4. Remove SD card from PC, reinsert into Dune, and turn on the Dune.

Every time I've tried to export to the SD card while it's in the Dune, I get random gaps in my icons - many/most categories (genres) will be missing, individual movie titles will be missing, etc. And this happens even once Z is working fine on the SD card, and I try to export over that.

I am curious to know whether anyone else using an SD card with Zappiti has experienced this problem, and if so, whether they could overcome it.

Cheers, Carl.

2.4.14.0 is the latest. 2.4.7.0 was faster and I think i'm going back to it. Scraping isn't bad in the new one, its scanning that has got painful. I think the export was faster in 2.4.7.0 as well.

2.4.18 is the latest version - http://zappiti.com/Download/Zappiti-v2.4.18.0.exe

Yes, 2.4.7.0 is the one I am on, and based on feedback from other users all versions after have been unstable

FYI - unboxed the Smart 301 yesterday, up and running Zappiti in 2 minutes.

So this is a new SMART unit?

Newer beta firmwares? Anyone want to risk it and try it out?

Yeah, based on the SMP8670, not as fully functional as the current SMP8642 players

Hadn't seen 18 yet. I may give it a whirl but will probably go back to 7 until the bugs get worked out. thanks.

Isn't that the TV-301? Doesn't do BD menu's and doesn't have the same connectivity on the back?
I haven't heard to it referred to as a "Smart" 301, just a TV 301.
Or do I have the wrong box in mind?

It's not on their main site yet. Anyone know what changed? I am still a version or two back.

Mine (Smart H1) downloaded the latest beta a few days ago. The skins changed a bit. Other than that I've noticed some buffering issues where there's a brief audio dropout shortly after starting a BD ISO. Thought about rolling back to previous version but decided it wasn't bad enough to bother.

The question was about 120608 firmware, not 120531.

I've updated to the latest beta FW for my D1. Didn't noticed any changes. Everything works the same.

18 is not listed on their site officially yet. I did give it a shot, After waiting 5+ minutes for it to read the database I gave up. To get back to 2.4.7.0 I had to completely uninstall and re-install, but everything is working fine again.

I am going to upgrade slower from now on. A while back my database got screwed up and I had to rebuild it from scratch. I used the opportunity to clean up how my files are arranged, but it's a pretty monumental task. I don't want to go through that again. I am also backing up the whole database now, just in case.

EDIT: When I rolled back I noticed a couple updates to the database were not present. Then I noticed in my database storage location there are .db files for each version. IE one for 2.4.7.0 one for 2.4.14 and one for 2.4.18. This is good because I imagine zappiti is creating a copy when you upgrade (maybe why it was taking so long to load the new version). However if I'm going to stay with 2.4.7 for now, can I safely delete the others? There is also an older one at 2.3.1099.0.
Seems like it would be OK, but I don't want to screw something up.

I've been tossing and turning on a decision to purchase a Dune (w/ Zappiti) and I was about to make the plunge when I read that the Dune can only access one network location at once. Is this the case?

I have an unRaid server with 7 drives currently. Can I point to multiple directories, i.e. Movies on multiple drives and will it put these in one folder or do I have to reorganize and make shares?

How exactly does this work? I tried to look for a Dune manual, but no luck on a description on setting up a NAS...

Can someone who uses unRaid with Dune let me know the best option for me as the network is already set up?

Thanks!
Brian

I've got 1 parity drive, and 5 data drives with a little over 8.3 TB of movies. I have one folder named Movies, which has all my movies located in all the drives so you don't have to access all of the drives individually. There isn't one media player that can access multiple locations at once. All you have to do with any media player is to show where the movies are at and play them.

Sorry, meant TV 301. Correct, it doesn't do BD Menus, but instead BD Lite only. Basically it is the equivalent of what the Popbox is to the PCH series. I just tested quickly and it worked without issue, but I need to run it through my usual tests. The one area I need to look at as well is HD audio as I don't believe it supports full HD Audio passthru (just by looking at the box/logos)

As long as it does MKV+FLAC+SUP then I willbe happy. Hurray for open source!!!

Any chance you could elaborate? You have one folder in the Dune or one folder on your network?

You say "show where the movies are"...so are you saying that if I tell the player there is disk2/movies, disk3/movies, disk7/movies that it will put these all under /movies?

With XBMC on the HTPC I can tell point it to "like" folders i.e. TV Shows1, TV Shows2, TV Shows3 and group these all together under "TV Shows" on the player.

Am I making sense? I just want to know if I need to set up shares on the network or if the Dune can group access to multiple drives/disks with identical folders on the network .

Thanks,
Brian

Check out unRAID "User Shares" at www.lime-technology.com, to get around the limitation. Aggregation takes place on the server.

BTW, the limitation to one SMB share is a characteristic of the Sigma Designs SOC. It does not apply to NFS shares.

I used the unRaid guide made by Damian, and it works perfectly. Here's the website. You can see how to crate user shares. I've got one user share named Media. Withing this folder is Movies and TV Shows. If I've have a new movie or tv show, I don't added to any of the drives I've got. I added to the movie or tv show folder. Unraid automatically adds this new movie / tv show to whatever drive it wants.

Well, I still need to make sure it outputs 5.1 PCM and not 2.0

That should be easy. Take one of the clips from the AVS Demo disk (they are very small) and convert it to MKV+FLAC that way you will have a true PCM test. I seriously doubt that they would make it 2.0 since all of the other units do 5.1/7.1 just fine.

I'm aware of the user shares...but have not set them up. Is this a necessity with the Dune?

SMB and NFS--scary acronyms...how do I know what I have? Can I change them? Will setting to NFS eliminate the need for shares? Should I just switch to shares anyway? What is the drawback of using shares?

If my array is already set up can I create shares or will this erase/destroy the data?

B.

I take it after some reading that NFS applies to Mac or UNIX systems, however, I use Windows. So it seems that it will be necessary to use Shares in order to get the Dune to work with multiple drives in the UnRaid setup.

What course of action should I take?

B.
