Yeah, sounds like he might "think" he has system storage but in fact does not.

Dune BD Prime and Smart D1 still running strong, TV301 in the wings biggrin.gif

Yep! I am thinking he may have installed the flash drive but never went into the setup menu and told the dune to use it!

flash storage is indeed something different. Try to initialize system storage (in the dune's set-up/advanced menu if i'm correct). If your internal USB flash drive is empty it will be detected and will be transformed into system storage. once done this flash drive won't appear anymore and will be used for optional things, one being to handle correctly java interactivity for BR (which might be your problem if you don't have system storage...)

Yep! What he said!

Is there a recommended size for the USB drive to be used as system storage? I can't remember what's in there but will find out soon enough.

Minimum 2gb. I used an 8 in one and a 4 in another because that is what I had laying around..

@Damian,

How do you recommend ripping tv shows that have forced subs? I want no compression and I want lossless audio. Makemkv is great for those titles that don't have forced subs. I have Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray, but the Dothraki language needs forced subs...smile.gif I want to be able to rip it and have it be able to be cataloged by DFI or Yadis.

Well, all my TV shows I always compress, I have way too many and they would take up way too much space (in particular my Blu-ray TV Shows). So in that case I would burn in but obviously you don't want to go that route.

Really for mkvs you would just handle like a normal movie mkv, just make sure the subs are muxed in the mkv and are flagged as forced. However, the downside is that Dune does not recognize the forced subtitle flag, so you will need to keep subtitles on for the Dune and either also have the forced subs flagged as default, or toggle through manually

I can still use Makemkv to do all of this? I don't mind toggling the Dune and keeping subtitles on when watching certain shows.

Yes, I believe MakeMKV will look for forced subtitles and if present mux into the mkv (as well as flagging default). If you know an episode from Game that has forced subs I would try just on that episode and confirm everything works with MakeMKV/Dune before spending more time on.

Or I believe you could rip each episode to a folder rip (using Clown_BD) which would give you the standard forced subtitle support that you get for Blu-ray movies on the Dune (although this format isn't as widely supported amongst the various jukeboxes/players)

Yeah, that is the bummer. MKV is really such a great container for tv shows. Every jukebox works great with it.

It means that the Dune did not read enough data fast enough from the file to satisfy the video/audio data-rate. The buffer acts between the file-access firmware-routines and the video/audio rendering firmware-routines. That error means that the buffer went empty, and there was no data to render.

I have never understood why Dune hasn't taken mkvs more seriously. If you recall, it took a while before chapter support was even added. Maybe this will change as you would expect the any new Dune players to come out will most likely not have full Blu-ray support

I love my Dune, don't get me wrong, but as a tv show watcher as opposed to a movie watcher, does a Popcorn Hour unit make more sense?

I have a ton of tv shows that I watch (over 3,000 episodes) on my Dunes without issue. The PCH does support forced subtitles in mkvs (although I believe they can be buggy at time, not sure if fixed). I guess it really just depends on your needs. Do you always rip subtitles for all your movies/tv shows, or only if forced subtitles are present?

Well it turns out I had an 8gb stick inside the Dune. I went ahead and tried a different one but it made no difference. Reset to factory defaults as well. Still get IO errors and buffer under run with BD lite mode. Regular BD mode ends in IO error eventually.

Did you go to the set up menu and tell the Dune to use that USB stick as "system storage"?
Simply installing it in the slot does NOT make it available for system storage.

To this date I have yet to ever see the errors you are reporting...

I only rip subtitles when forced subtitles are present.

Yep, I did initialize the drive as system storage and it showed cofirmed on screen. Trust me, if it's going to happen it's going to happen to me. I'm going to take this specific title (Sucker Punch) and turn my BD-ISO into a movie only MKV to see what happens. After ripping a few MKV's over the last few days its much faster and so far the files are trouble free and start right up. I can only think of a few titles that I really care about having extras for anyway so why bother for the others. Movie only is fine with me as long as it plays correctly.

instead of ripping to iso, try to rip as bdvm folder. Bdvm works for both movie only and for full rips. I always rip to bdvm with DVDFab and never had any problem, whether it's only movie+sub+audio or 1:1 full rip.

Just got an alert on the D1 for a new firmware update.

Did the update, but didn't notice anything new...

OK, so just keep the subtitles on with your Dune and you are fine. The issue is for those people who have multiple subtitle tracks in mkvs

you can find the new firmware here : ftp://ftp.hd-players.com/Firmwares/DuneHD/120815_2150_beta/

newest one is 120815_2150 (2151 for 101 and 301)

apparently it's just an official release following the june betas. May be it will solve the DTS HD problems on 101/301 ?

No love for the 53D?!?! It has become the red-head-stepchild now.

Would be great if that bug was fixed considering it is still present in the other newer Sigma chips (i.e. PCH)

Yes, and so has the Base/Prime 3 but they get a new firmware.

Yay! Long live my Base 3.0! I just added a custom skin to it this weekend as well!
Glad to see they keep up with the older models as well..

Yeah, but the 3.0 is running the same chip as the SMART models whereas the Lite is not
