I'd get the HD smart for 1.2" of.. depth! :-D

Not too bad. The Mini-ITX HTPC I built is slightly bigger and fits in well with my home theater:

8.7" W x 12.9" L x 3.8" H

Hmmm. Interesting.

Digital TV option: playback and record Digital TV channels using an optional Digital TV USB dongle (Digital TV USB dongle is not included; this option can be purchased separately).

There is also a entry in Features Voting for support on a EPG.

Definitely need more information on this.

I wonder if the box has the horsepower to record while playing back something else - like BD.

I'm sure there will be plenty to argue over, such as prioritization of fixes for new Dune firmware, how the Dune stacks up to things like Boxee, etc.

On the phone with Amazon as we speak. They seem to have no problem with a FULL refund on the VMP75 and WDTV Live+ (I haven't had to deal with it much, but I have to agree...Amazon seems to have an excellent return policy). Guess where my ~$250 for these 2 boxes is going to go?

I think a D1 fits the bill nicely for me. Only reason I can think of for a drive, with the B1, is if you could network the drive and rip from it. But I think I wanted to try this with the C-200, and there's a fairly obvious reason why that doesn't really work.

If you want to be challenged use a new Mac for a week and tell me you still think Windows is better!

Does anyone know when Digital connection might get these? If I get one(or two) I prefer to order it from them since I've been dealing with them for the last nine years for some of my HD STBs.

I'm seriously considering some major changes in my setup, but i don't want to dive in without a little more info.
When I had first read Damians artilcle about a free upgrade to the 8646/47 I was ready to pull the trigger on two right away until i realized it was a mistake.

Do Dunes currently come from Taiwan?

Thanks to HDcity and warunek for the measurement info...Sounds like a win around the horn.

Got my order in for the bottom rung box. Just don't need another player with a drive, and I can slap in a HD if needed. Don't even need the display Assuming the first one works the way I hope, 2 more will soon be on the way!

Just preordered a D1 through duneplayer.com. I love the concept of the unit upgrade paths when newer chipsets get released combined with the knowledge that we're getting pretty mature firmware out of the gate and all of that finally at price-levels in a more affordable range.

I think Dune just challenged Egreat in the "who makes more different models" contest, or "when it rains, it pours" contest
post #103 of 10126
What method of payment are you guys (duneplayer.com) doing your preoder?

I paid by CC. I ried paying with Paypal and it gave me a weird error about choosing an alternative payment method.

I am a diehard PC gamer. No platform beats windows when it comes to gaming. The Xbox360 and PS3 are getto gaming platforms to me and Mac gaming is non existant. Plus M$ is my business. All of my Servers in data centers run 2k, 2k3 or 2k8. Too late to change now.

CD, do you happen to know what information the D1's display will show? I'm debating the H1 and was curious what made you choose the D1..

no prob...The hard drive bay is still accessible in the D1 though, correct?

Did you guys read this on the Dune page D1

I'm surprised to learn that each add-on "module" requires it's own external power supply...I have to question the value proposition on that one, to be honest. Why not furnish the "base" units with an outlet like my cable box?

I don't think there is a hard drive bay on the D1.

The H1 has hard drive bay with the hot swap function. It's the H1 all the way for me, it's basically the Dune base without the analog outs and display for $239, great deal if it performs as well as the base.

That's pretty standard boiler plate stuff. They are probably computer renderings and the actual product could differ slightly.

As to the display on the unit, I would expect that when it is supporting an external player as the host module it will show all the normal CD/DVD stuff, and maybe show some other little bit of info when streaming (hopefully).

Aaron,
If you have been buying for that long, I would think you would know that all you have to do is drop them an email and they will get right back to you. I bought my dune base and prime from them as well.
I think sybas will cut you off though, if you go over to the "dark side" of the Dune!

I agree, this was kind of a foolish design decision. On the other hand they can't put an AC receptacle on the unit since it has an external power supply.

they might have been able to come up with some other way to daisy chain the other modules with USB power though. 5V should be more than enough.
