You've got to pay for that one too. I didn't mind paying for the 1st one since I like it a lot, but the 3 line poster should be included with the 2 line. Now, this is getting out of hand from Zappiti.
I was trying to go to the mpcclub.com and make a suggestion to include that skin, but their site is down.
Update: The site is back up, but it is really slow. I was able to post, and put somewhat of a complaint, but more of a suggestion to either include the new look with the original or at least sale it at a discount if you bought the first grey 2 line look.

That is what I was afraid they would try doing, nickel and dime approach for minimal work done on these plug ins/skins.

Hmm, Zappiti is the software I use for organizing my library on the Dune.

But if they start charging for every new feature, I might look elsewhere.

Of course, if a broad range of functionality is provided in exchange for a fee, well then that's acceptable. But that funcionality has got to prove to be robust and thoroughly tested.

I understand that nowadays money is needed to make software better. You can't do everything for free. However, I do agree with dbone1026 about them nickle and dime for everything. I didn't mind to pay for the new look since I do like it a lot, but come out with the same grey look only to have 3 rows of movie posters instead of 2. I mean if they would charge like $0.99 cents to get it, I wouldn't mind to pay $0.99 cents extra for the 3rd row, but another $4.99 EUROS...I don't think so.

I'm giving it a lot of though, and I might end up switching to 100% 10muse.

Yes, this is exactly my issue with the price for the "skin". All the skins are doing is changing some colors around and adding/removing a row. I understand you can't expect it to be as robust as the different skins for an HTPC, but charging over $5 for a touch up is a joke.

I've got the 10muse app running on my mini and it works fine. I haven't tried it on my ipad3 as I only set the app up the other day, but it seems well suited to the mini as a control device.

In particular I am loving 10muse. Of course, you'll need an iPad; I was testing the free App last night and it is fantastic. My MKVs were picked up from my Synology NAS without any issues. The movie art and information are excellent. One of the features I like the most is the fact that I don't need to grab the Dune or Harmony Remote to play my movies. Also, the rewinding is done thru a scroll bar on the iPad virtual remote which is much faster than rewinding in the conventional remotes.

For me it's no longer a question of whether I "like" it or not; cause right now Zappiti is not working for me. It has to work first for me to like it. I've used it a long time and I never had any complaints before; besides I never saw good alternatives. RIght now since it's just not working for me, I think I have no choice but to start looking at Alternates.

I'm looking at 10Muse but I have a couple questions ...

Does it work without an iPad? Solely between PC & Dune like Zappiti? I don't have an iPad so that would rule it out if it doesn't.
If it does work between PC & Dune (without iPad), does it do both Movies & TV Shows or just Movies?

Thanks!

IMO 10muse is mainly dedicated to iPad, dune navigation exists but is quite new and seems need some work.

So why dont you check yadis/mymovies/DFI alternatives to zappiti. I think that yadis will be th closest to zappiti. Anyway, there're all free so just try it wink.gif
post #9068 of 10812
I agree with Mr Eric, 10muse's index is not ready for primetime. For one, only movies work, no tv shows. Best solution is 10muse for iPad and Yadis/DFI for index.

Without TV Show support & not ready for primetime without iPad, I don't think I can considering 10Muse.

That being the case, I'm going to take a 2nd look at Yadis. It's definitely looking better now then what I last saw where it was still in version 1 stage.

I'm kinda disappointed myself. When I heard the new version would allow us too choose 2 or 3 row, I just figured if you already bought the silver, you'd have that option. But NO, they want another 4.99 Euros. I caved though because I have a big display and library so the browsing makes it a bit easier... But still ridiculous!!

Zappiti has been working well for me but I would like to give Yadis a try. Where you do go to download the latest binary? I started searching through the forum threads where it looks like they get posted but there must be a better way then trolling threads to find the post? At least I hope smile.gif

Awesome! Thanks. Going to tackle the install and setup this weekend.

This is off topic more than a bit, but I hope someone with experience can help me. My videos are stored on NAS boxes and are mainly as 1080i or 1080p MPG, MKV, or ISO files. I've got my Dune setup and it is running fine. The reason I got the Dune player and a NAS was to be able to play all these file types without needing a computer to transcode on the fly. . I've decided I'd like to occasionally view these videos without heading into my TV room (which is a more of a cave than a room). So, I'm thinking of getting a tablet to view them. Are there any tablets with software that make it easy to view these file types. I suspect I need an Android based tablet to do this, and am looking at either a Transformer Infinity or the soon to be released Google Nexus 10. In some ways I'd rather get a 4th gen iPad (mainly for its other applications), but hate the Apple/iTunes mindset.

So, does any tablet or app pretend it is a Dune Player? If not, are any of them close? Please, let me know.

Thanks

I use an ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700). For software I use Mizzu as the jukebox and BSPlayer or MXPlayer for playback, so you can multiple file types. However, if you are looking to wirelessly stream high bitrate content (such as BR Rips) chances are you will not be very successful

Thanks for the response. I'm hoping I can use wireless for my lower bit-rate videos, and either download or use an attached USB device for the ISO files. My MPG files are mostly TV shows I've recorded and not had a chance to watch yet. They've got bitrates between 12-19 Mbps. Do you think they will play?

Do you have any other wireless devices (i.e. laptop) at home that y ou could at least test out to see what plays back?

With the Transformer I have the 32GB model. I also installed a 32GB miniSD card. I also have the laptop dock which has a 64GB SDHC card. PLUS, with the keyboard you can use a USB drive which I have a 32GB USB drive connected to. As you can, lots oh storage biggrin.gif

Typically for my Blu rays I will just run through handbrake to come up with a mobile version that I copy over to the Transformer (or can still stream wireless)

So considering getting one for christmas to supplement my ATV for movies as I want HD audio.

I want to start ripping and streaming my blu rays (Thinking of the Dune because I want full menus). Right now I have my wirless router near my AV equipment and was just planning on getting a NAS (Looking at the DS413 from Synology) and hooking that and the Dune up via ethernet.

Anyways what are some general tips for a good NAS/Dune setup? Should I invest in getting a 32GB SSD for it? I've read in this thread it will help speed up the Jukebox. Does this use the SSD for buffering?

I'm assuming store my movie collection on the NAS via raid 5 and have the Zappiti index on the SSD?

I will have it connected via HDMI to my Anthem MRX300 for HD audio.

Does Zappiti download cover artwork or do you need to provide it yourself?

Thanks!

If you want a good NAS, I would suggest Synology, QNAP, or more inexpensive Netgear. I don't use SSD, or any time of internal storage with my Dune. I've got everyone in my unRaid server. Zappiti does scrape all the necessary information just as long you name the files correctly.

Hi everybody! Been reading this tread and a ton of others about the different media players. I want something that will play back FULL BITRATE video and audio ripped from Blu-Ray and stored as MKV. That means up to 40mbps video and DTS-HD MA/DD TrueHD/PCM Multi-Channel audio with NO re-encoding like some people seem to be happy with. I will be running this to an Onkyo reciever and a 61 inch Samsung DLP. I will be playing the video off of external HDDs, NO wireless streaming. I had the PivOS AIOS and after being lied to about it's capabilities/not doing enough research I sent it back to newegg. I would also consider getting the Smart B1 specifically and then I could get rid of my PS3 if the BD disc playback is comparable. So... would the Smart B1 be right for me. Thanks for reading.

I think the B1 would work great for your needs. Playing full bitrate Blu-ray rips with HD audio from USB-attached HDDs is no problem for any Dune Smart series.

How are the Dune players with FLAC? What's the music player UI like?

Plays FLAC fine, gapless playback sucks, music UI is none-existent.

Well, that rules out the Dune players.

Is there any player that has a stellar Music UI!!!??

I suspect you aren't going to get everything you want in one box. Go with Dune for movies, something else for music.
Just tried out the Mac version of MyMovies and I have a question how do you get the metadata over to the dune? After you add titles? On the win version you select something in preferences and it updates the dune. No option that I have seen. Also another question is there a way to add the my movies icon to the home page?

Would love to, but am kind of on a budget. Was looking at something with XBMC, but I cannot be bothered setting it up.

Might go down the Mede8er or Popcorn Hour route.

The best video player for music that I have found is the Netgear NeoTV-550. However, it is at end-of-life (what little life it had), and still has its share of bugs. I got mine for $80, but it is more typically around $100.

It plays FLAC up to 24bit/192kHz and multi-channel. It plays music gapless, and I believe it is the only video player that does. The UI is not "stellar", but is decent. You can browse your music by album-art, and can select based on album, artist, genre, years and other criteria (my meager brain can't remember then all).

BTW, it is decent for movies also. It is the cheapest player that can do full Blu-Ray menus. Currently, I prefer it over my Dune Smart D1 (I'm hoping that is just temporary).
