The only problem that I see with a media player being used for music, is that you have to have your TV on so you can see what you are doing. This is something my wife and I dislike very much.

How true...

The modern iP*/Android devices should solve the problem of control the audio players without a TV being on. PCH A400 is on the horizon that promises such kind of control out of the box, hopefully Dune will make the same and also improve gapless playback. This will be really what I like and the way to the future.

There's currently a beta testing on an app called dunepad on mpcc. The idea is exactly what you said : everything is done from the iPad, even scrapping. No need anymore to turn on the pc to scrap or the tv to navigate. It's still in its early stage,but already functional.

The iPad app does have full TV support.

I'm using a Dune HD D1 with Yadis and up until today everything has been working fine.
I recently installed a new HDD and although the sharing permissions/settings are the exact same I can't access it via the Dune.
When I go in through the Network Browser it sees the shared folder but when I try to access it it says "Network resource is not accessible. You might not have access permission"

As I said, the sharing/permissions have been set up exactly the same as the other shared folders. The only difference is that this is a 3TB drive while the others are 2TB.

Any recommendations on what I need to do to access this folder?

Double check the NTFS permissions on the HDD, which is separate from sharing permissions.

Going to back to my question above...

I noticed the Dune only has a 100mbit ethernet jack.

Would streaming Blu-Ray ISOs over a connected Synology NAS (Via the Ethernet with the NAS plugged into the same hub) be any issues with dropped frames etc? Or would I have to connect it directly via USB/eSata?

The player's NIC will deliver 8-9 MB/sec bandwidth, plenty for streaming BD rips. File transfers top out at around 8 MB/sec here, also plenty for streaming BD rips. BD video/audio runs about 50Mb/sec max. Note the "B" and "b".

It's not a great connection for file management, but plenty good for streaming. Caveat being any competing network traffic on your network.

Yeah, I had tried that before and had the same problems whether system storage was there or not. I even tried a different USB drive just to rule out a bad one.

As much as I don't want to pay the premium they are asking these days, it's looking more and more like another Dune is in my future. I'm thinking I better snatch up a Smart version of some sort. With everyone else releasing new products adhearing to Cinavia and BD-Lite, it may be worth the extra money to go with Dune again.

Dune can partner with anyone they want. Kind of weird for My Movies to not consider doing something similar with Dune. That's the question.

Although the next gen player from Dune will be questionable since they will not have a BDA license. Who knows what it's capabilities will be at release. No mentioned of BD ISO playback at all on the specs.

How do you know they will not have a BDA license? At last years CES while at the dune booth, every thing was about my movies! Even down to meeting binnerup! They were supposed to incorporate MM into the GUI. Maybe they went another direction?
