Although the next gen player from Dune will be questionable since they will not have a BDA license. Who knows what it's capabilities will be at release. No mentioned of BD ISO playback at all on the specs.

That's probably where the money from the Zappiti Marketplace is going. They had so many people buy the new Zappiti jukebox look that they were able to buy out Dune HDI tongue.gif What's HDI stock now 0.99 cents per share?

I doubt there was a buyout, probably just some sort of licensing agreement. HDland has always been a big supporter of Dune, and it addresses the issue of UI with Dune. That being said, unless you can manage Zappiti directly from the Dune i dont see how this offers anything above what you currently get (except having zappiti launch at startup)

As of now i havent seen forced subs work correctly on any bdlite players. I think audio decoding will only be 2ch for those downmixing

For which player? The Dune TV301 downmixes HD Audio to only 2ch stereo (over HDMI) and not multi channel PCM. I don't know what Dune has in mind for the new player

There was a comment a few pages back about the Pivos. I have an upstairs Dune (on the he-man rig) and the Pivos downstairs. With the correct "unofficial firmware" it isn't a bad cheapo machine. It can bitstream hi res audio codecs, and does decode most flac files that I have tried (sometimes I have to hit the rewind button to start things up). Considering that Dune removed the hi res audio decoding (unless you put in a DSF hack), the Pivos has its place. All of these media streamers have their quirks. My Dune's blu ray playback can be glitchy, even after being replaced by Mike for a more up to date version. Just the nature of the beast I suppose.

At least in the US, it almost seems like Dune is going out of their way to avoid business. Higher pricing and less distribution.

Can the Dune properly plays MKV video file muxed with HD audio?
I have a few MKV with 7.1 DTS HD MA audio. My Sony Bluray player can't even play the file mad.gif (normal MKV with DD/DTS 5.1 plays fine though). My old Realtek 1073DD player plays the MKV but only plays the core lossy 5.1 track (it's the old chipset limitation). These players (in passthrough bitstream) are connected to my Denon 3312 AVR.

Therefore, I am planning to get myself a new player, either Sigma player like Dune or a Realtek 1186 player. Does Sigma really outshine Realtek in video upscale quality? Generally, rock stability system & ease of use with proper MKV+HD audio support is my priority. Having folder art view with nice info function is a plus.

Anyone can help?

I believe it does DTS-HD MA 7.1. I would have to check one of my MKVs to be sure, but I am thinking someone else in the forum will confirm it first.
As far as the scaling, I would say it is not its killer feature. I use my radiance instead, but then again I play mostly 1080p content which does not require scaling. Unless you have a significant amount of DVDs ripped to MKVs, I wouldn't be too worried about it.
As far as stability, it is actually pretty good. All my MKVs (99% blu-ray material) play flawless over my NAS, and I think it is where the Dune players do excel. The iOS support is also excellent if you plan to use it as a remote. One last feature which I really enjoy is the jukebox support from zappiti, 10muse, my movies, etc. It is the best way to manage a medium to large movie/tv show library.

The Dune players are the most rock solid out there... they have been relatively unchanged for 4 years now.

Couple quick questions. I'm installing a green WD 3tb HD in my D1. What format should I use? Ext2, Ext3 or NTFS? What's best method for moving files from a NAS to the HD in Dune? FYI, the reason I'm doing this is I'm going to take the Dune when we go to a vacation home where I don't have a NAS so we'll have our favorite movies, concerts etc.

3tb drives work fine! I have 2 of them in my Duo, as for format I think they are NTFS. I have a Duo at home and was using a POS 900b while traveling I would take the HDD with me and play in the 900b, now I picked up a H1 and use that for traveling never had an issue with any of the unites and the 3tb drives!

continuing to have issues with my Smart B1 unit. it has done this on a few occasions now and has resolved itself. Now, I'm not so sure. When pressing power I get no video output. The display screen says "loading" for a few seconds and then "standby" and then turns off. If I turn the power switch on the back off and wait a few then power it back on, press the front power button it displays " **1**", then " ** 2 ** " and " ** 3 ** " then standby and poweroff.

I sent it in for service 3 months ago when it wouldn't power on at all, and now I am back to about the same thing. Just a bum unit or is there something else I can try to revive this thing?



EDIT

As mentioned a while back, I have this connected to a 4x4 matrix. This may be the culprit. The dune powers normally when disconnected from the matrix. Could this be an EDID issue? Would a product like the Gefen HDMI detective be of help?

Having this unit connected to the matrix is really the only option for me in my home set up, so if I can't use it while plugged in to the matrix then it is of little use overall.

any ideas?

I have two Dune Prime 3.0 that I love. Both of them play great and have been rock solid ever since I bought them. Right now I'm looking to buy another player for the guest bedroom. Maybe one of the SMART players. Do these SMART models use the same firmware that I have on my Prime player? Are these SMART models as stable and solid as what my Prime is now? I saw Dune is coming out with a Dune Base 4 3D last month but it was never released. I know media player companies are always announcing products and most times nothing is ever made. Does anyone know the facts on what products are really coming out with Dune or not? I've left several emails to the guys at duneplayer.com and they don't respond at all. I'll never buy from a place that can't answer simple questions either. If Dune came out with a Prime 4 model that played 3D I would probably buy two of them. It is December now and usually if nothing comes out in the beginning of December then nothing will.

Also I tried that Zappiti program. Man that program is crap. I really hope that new Zappiti/Dune player isn't based %100 off that software. I hope you can use the player without using that software.

I've got a Dune Smart D1 in combination with Zappiti, and it is awesome. The easiest set up I've ever had. Better than my PCH-A210 with YAMJ/Eversion/YAYMAN.

Everyone has opinions on which jukebox is better and try vary by your setup and needs. I use Zappiti and cant imagine why you would be that hard on it. It is really easy to use once you learn how and the newer releases run really fast (which used to be my only gripe).

Having said that people like different softwares for different reasons. The dune plays fine without any of them but if you want the GUI of a jukebox you need to pick one of them.

Just got my B1 back. I want to put in a word about Mile from Dune Player.com He fixed my B1 even though it was out of warranty. I think there has been an issue with the blu-ray drive and he wanted to make sure it was right.

Also. I chatted a bit with him. I got the impression the new Dune players are in limbo. Mike seemed to be aware that BD menu support is a big issue for lots of us. I'm not sure if he's fully up to speed on the Cinavia issue, but he said he thought the Sigma 8911 is a "failed chip".

I've got one issue getting my B1 set back up maybe someone can help. I installed system storage, but was unable to see any of my shares in smb I could see my computer, and see the Dune on my computer. I added in a couple of my shares as new network folders and they work fine. But still my network browser is empty I think I have all the shares right, guest enabled etc.

I have 6 or 7 shared folders so I can just add the remaining ones and access them directly there on the main sources screen, but it's bugging me the browser isn't showing them smile.gif
