New Dune HD Max and HD Smart anticipation thread Q3 2010 - Page 306

I never got the browser to work but then again I was only testing it to see if it did. I just use one network folder for access to the NAS where my index is stored (and most of my movies).
well I've always gotten it, the network browser, to work in the past but I recall adding a port setting in my router but I can't remember what it was.

Need help from Dune experts, I have H1 and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why my H1 deintializes System Storage, tried 2 different UBS sticks and 1 SD card but it keeps deintializing. I need system storage to save IPTV plugin and every time I reboot this plugin gets lost and system storage is deintialized. I am new to Dune but for years was in PCH camp except A400 pushed me over the edge finally. Emailing Dune-HD.com was no help at all, I will try my dealer Diamond Home Design but I doubt they know.

I can't imagine anything you could be doing wrong that would cause this. What firmware version are you running?

Are you powering down properly (as opposed to pulling the plug)? [Though that still wouldn't explain this...]

I am puzzled too, I am on the very latest FW, updated 2 days ago from the Net. I thought my flash drives and SD cards are bad but then all 3 of them? None of them are Class 10, all of them are 8GB, I did not try partitioning them into two partitions of 2 and 6 GB but I doubt it would help. Could it be a USB controller as it was suggested to me. I was able to play test clips from the external USB HDD though, did not try to watch a long movie from that external USB HDD to see if USB controller fails after prolonged use.
I had to resort to using that 16MB of on-board Dune flash to store that plugin but this suboptimal since I need System Storage for other type of apps/plug ins.

Appreciate help or advise. Want to keep this Dune since A400 from PCH is a train wrack with VXP making picture actually worse rather than better frown.gif

Not sure if dune has telnet enabled but if so next time it drops out type dmesg and see what errors the system has kicked back. if its a usb controller issue it will show

I am on a day 3 with www.dune-HD.com support ticket, zero response or update from their support team. Even PCH support responded within 48 hours, so far Dune support unimpresses, when you need them, they are nowhere to be found. Diamond Design dealer responded but does not appear to have any advise so far. I continue to lose System Storage, ordered a brand new USB stick from Patriot Memory and will use Dune control files to format/prep that stick and if that does not solve it, Dune goes back to Diamond or to the credit card return process. Will stick with A300 for movies and Roku for IPTV then until something stable comes out that can combine IPTV and full BD media playback from NAS.

I would send it back for RMA and try a new one. This is definitely not normal behavior.

For any consumer electronics, I find manufacturer support, unless it's for an obviously defective product, to be worthless compared to community support. So I don't make buying decisions based on the manufacturer's support level.
Agreed, Dunes are solid players, I am shocked to see what I see, question is where do I go to RMA? Diamond Design or dune-HD.com? As far as I am concerned I should not be paying for return shipping? Does Dune-HD.com send you a label to return?

RMA should be done by the reseller, i.e. diamond design. Did you check their return policy ?

I am looking for a jukebox recommendation for the Dune.

I have been using MyMovies for my HTPC for a few years and really like the content quality and completeness of the Collection Management, as well as the integration with Media Center.

When I got my Dune earlier this year, it was a logical choice for me to try MyMovies' approach for the Dune interface. Overall, I think it has great potential, but is buggy; at least in my setup and the MyMovies team seems to have very little interest to improve/fix the product. I have not been able to get the TV series on Blu Ray and DVD properly working. Some of them are simply missing in the index. I have also been experiencing problems that the index sometimes does not properly update when changes are made in the CM. This is for regular movies and TV series. I had posted in the MyMovies forum, but received rather lukewarm support. MyMovies just brought out 4.05 PR1 and I had my hopes up again till I tried it .... still not joy!

Long story short, I am looking for a jukebox alternative to MyMovies. If I can continue to use the (existing) meta data that MM provides, it would be even better. What options are out there?

Thanks!

yaDIS 2
Zappiti (my choice)
DFI

I think Zappiti is the only one that may use some of the MM metadata
post #9163 of 10804
Zappiti doesn't use mm data (that's in project For a future version). The only one that can use mm datas is yamj/eversion for dune, but this is far from being user friendly and I wouldn't recommend it.

My advice would be o try them all as they're all free. Start with yadis as zappiti will install some files that yadis doesn't like (easy to correct but this will simplify your test if you do it his way). DFI will be the least easy to use but the most dynamic one.

Mm is indeed a very good software but the dune index for tv series is clearly broken and the team doesn't want to take care about it unfortunately frown.gif

I've been using Zappiti since I got my Dune D1 (2 years I believe). Zappiti is probably the most simple, easy to use, and has a good interface. I haven't tried any of the other jukeboxes since Zappiti works.

10Muse just added TV support for the Dune folder export (jukebox) and if you have an iPad its the best iOS jukebox by far. So far, the Dune folder export is free.

That's awesome. I am going to give it a try and most likely buy the iPad app since I got 3 iPads (kids and wife xmas gifts rolleyes.gif). Plus it will work well for the Dune wink.gif.

What is DFI?
Dune Flash Interface. Personally, I think it sucks. Way too buggy.

I use it exclusively on my two iPads and it handles my almost 130TBs with no issues. Very easy to update, edit, and navigate on both the iPad or the PC Library Manager.

MM with Dune has been working well for me. CM runs on a pc, movies on WHS and it must be that way to get the index to work right apparently. Mine has stayed synced but a friend has trouble with his.

What version are you running? I'm on the latest and it works great. I do think that the future for Flash Based Jukeboxes is very iffy right now since Adobe is no longer supporting mobile flash. I really like 10muse for the iPad, but the jukebox looks like crap, IMHO.

I gave up on it about a month ago (so whatever version that was). Flash is iffy on a full blown PC with GPU/CPU acceleration so I doubt a media player could have better luck with it.

10Muse rocks.
I definitely prefer to use 10muse and my iPad when controlling my Dune, but prefer DFI's look when the iPad isn't handy.

Hopefully 10muse will continue to advance to the point that I can use the iPad app and jukebox exclusively.

Having said that people like different softwares for different reasons. The dune plays fine without any of them but if you want the GUI of a jukebox you need to pick one of them.

Not necessarily. I opted to go a different route. I use Plex server. It finds all my movies and TV shows just fine. Much better than Zappiti ever did. I'll use Plex to browse with computer, Ipad, or Android tablet. Plex is much more mature then any Jukebox type media player software I've ever seen. I programmed it to auto start a movie if I click on the PLAY button. Very slick and works wonders. I'm so glad there was alternatives then those flumsy jukebox type stuff.

Dune doesn't have any support. You may be emailing someone and making a ticket or something but it will never get answered. These media player companies can't afford to keep a support person onboard.

Hello,

I'm having issues with connecting multiple external drives to my Dune. The most I have successfully connected was 5. If more - speeds drop down drastically, even browsing through Dune becomes impossible, files won't even index.

I've asked about this here before, and I was told I need a powered USB hub. I bought a cheap one on eBay, but that did not work out - I could not connect more than 2 drives and sustain USB 2.0 speeds.

What do you guys use? Any particular ones you would recommend? Or could there be a different issue at hand? My player is Dune HD Max, drives are Seagate GoFlex. Thanks.

Plex can generate a jukebox for dune players ? Can you elaborate on this ?

I think he is using a plex client on a tablet and starting playback over upnp to a DUNE, any player that has UPNP can support a plex style client on a tablet or PC, The plexNMT client would not be to much work to transfer over to the dune series that have flash though.
so it's only working on upnp ? And you need a PC behind to run Plex as server ?

Pretty useless if true...
