Hey guys; not even sure if this is the right place to post this anymore (or if it should rather be in the unRAID thread...or somewhere else even). That's part of the issue; I've been on the sidelines...of ripping and streaming lately, as I try to take a more "balanced" approach to life...lol. Seems there's not enough time for being an expert in this arena...and
Anyhoo...the missus and I tried to watch Life Of Pi
last night; and it just buried my Smart D1
It came as a real surprise...because it used to be, nothing
could trip-up the Dune.
Hard for me to find blame though...because a number of things have changed recently. One, I upgraded my server to unRAID 5.0. Wouldn't look there first...except that there is
that whole share issue; where to even see the share, I had to map in the Dune. So I guess that's a possible culprit?
Two...in the "switch-over", or possibly just because these things happen; it could just be a "bad" rip? Three...it was an ISO. Lately, I've been ripping anything that might have "extras" worth watching...to ISO; anything where I want just movie, is .m2ts. Could it be the container? Four...Life Of Pi
, is rumored to be a beautifully-shot movie. Is the bitrate just a known stream-killer; and the D1 just ain't what she used to be? Five...good 'ole network throughput?
When Life Of Pi
was a no-go; we watched an m2ts rip of Flight
, with no issues. So I guess the question is more general: when you guys have a rip that won't play (which again...has been a rarity with the D1), what's your troubleshooting process...to get to the bottom of the cause? How do you determine if it's a file, player, or network issue?
