Probably not. The eva9150 does not support standalone .ts files, you have to have the corresponding .ifo file.
You can however rename your .ts files to .mpg files and they should play fine on the Neo.

I have tried to rename a .ts to .mpg and you know, It does not play,
Not on my VLC-player and not on my NTV550. My NTV dont se .mpg


When i record a movie on my VU+ duo the files is not only a .ts file
A movie is recorded as 6 files:
*.ts
*.eit
*.ts.ap
*.ts.cuts
*.ts.meta
*.ts.sc

When I play the files I can select sound and subtitles.

On the Neo try going into Video|Folders and browsing to the location where the particular .mpg file is stored. Is it still not visible?

Ok, I have played around with the 550 for a couple of hours.
I like it the experience overall.

I need one more day to do some test of the files before I'll write more about playback.
There are some bugs with bd-iso/m2ts not displaying the whole picture. You can see only 1/10 of it and subtitles. I think this is a overlay issue because I have been able to get the whole picture back one time when switching in and out of the menues.
I tried 200 mkvsamples so far and most of them seem to work. Had black level problems with some so i need to check these on my computers aswell.

Menus
Cant use the remote A-Z with drop down boxes, eg selecting Sweden in Country (need to scroll instead or use +pg-).
Can't use 24h... only AM/PM
Weather report seems to be acurate.

Internet Apps
Youtube Video
* Very fast loading and image quality is ok (can see alot of DNR and banding/grading sometimes)
* Time scrolling is easy and works!
* Alot of alternatives eg categories/search/most viewed. (Cheerleading channel )
* Adding a video to your playlist works, but it took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to go directly to the next stream in the playlist. (popup menu-> press down->press right)
* If you want to change to another stream while still watching something, you first need to stop the current one or use the solution above. (this is really stupid and must be changed. The user should get an option if he wants to add it to the playlist or go directly to the new stream instead imo)
* Avatar 1080p flash trailer (1920x1080 14.1Mbps, AAC 44.1Khz 2.0) worked without problem!
* Playlist automatically clears itself when everthing has been seen.


RadioTime
*The player hanges when selecting local radio channel (Bandit Rock 106.3). Needed to pull the plug.
Could repeat the crash by trying to select a couple of random stations again.
(player wanted me to send a crash report to Netgear)

RadioIO/Shoutcast
* Really good and fast. Didn't notice the same bug as above with this function.

Flickr
* Can't find myself on flickr, but found a friend. This must be some kind of settings with flickr preventing it from finding mine I guess
* Can't find my taged pics. But i found someone else who had tagged my pic somewhere
*Seems like you cant open a pic in someones stream and press next to see the next pic.
*Quality isn't very good
*Overall flickr-function needs alot of improvment!

News channels
Seems to work like it should. I can watch most if it... but not ABC News (maybe GeoIP)

Other stuff
*I had to restart the player a couple of times by pulling the plug. Usually when I change videos while already playing something or when watching something and suddenly the video stops. It doesnt help to soft reboot.
I can replicate this bug with one MKV with DTS-HD track!
* Back of the remote looks like bad suede after a while. The surface likes fingerprints.
*If you press back in a movie/youtube or whatever you will be taken to the menu and the video is still playing in the corner. The logical thing would be to press back to go back again, but instead they have choosen the menu button as the return button for this. The back button always goes back until you get to main menu.
*Sometimes when you use the search function in eg Flickr, CAPS is always activated. Guys coding these things apperently thinks every one always has the first letter with capital letters but forgot to make it auto off after pressing the first key.
*The stupid popup menu sometimes gets in the way making it impossible to click ok when browsing menus.
Eg if you are playing radio in the background and have the popup menu on. You have to manually deactivate it by pressing "Popup menu", but the back button is always working. This should/could be solved by an option to make the popup menu disapear after eg 10 sec.
*I miss a delete key on the remote when typing letters. Oh wait its the back button 5 cm away from the rest of the letters! <- Stupid!
* Miss that I cant put the cursor where I want when typing. I need to clear everything and write it again if i make a misstake

does the NTV 550 play mkv, with the new header compression? o!Play needs to disable compression with mkv merge.

how good is the firmware support from Netgear? Anyone had a netgear multimediaplayer before?
I was not so happy with the Asus support, because they nee 2-3 Month to fix only 1 problem. It was to long.

One more thing before I go to bed.
Almost every 16:9 (or close to 1:78:1) mkv I have tried is not displayed correctly. I usually have to zoom in (-) the pic by 3 clicks.
Is there really no overscan settings?

edit: it's present in bd-iso also.

Can't you use the arrow buttons to move back and forwards along the text rather than deleting everything?

Is that with the Aspect Ratio set to Auto?
During playback there is the pop-up menu with the "Fill screen" option. Does that solve the problem?

I'll keep it for 30 days and see if the Netgear techs work as much as the Boxee people =)
But most of the problems could be fixed with fw I guess.


Nope that didn't solve it. None of the options does any difference on my TV.
Not changing resolution to 720p either.
One more interesting thing! I switch to NTSC and the box freaked out... I can no longer change aspect ratio to fill screen!

fill screen is not available now at all.
Found another bug. If you zoom in/out of the pic, you cant select 16:9 or 4:3to restore the picture. You need to start and stop the movie.

I think I read a few pages back that the latest Beta version is in the 3.0.26x range.

The latest released FW version on Netgear Website is 3.0.234.

Since the official release of the NeoTV 550 is not supposed to be until early December (from what has been said on this Forum by Bob Silver and others) then I would assume that many of the Bugs you are experiencing will be fixed by then.

According to Scan in the UK they will receive stock on 14 December and my unit will be with me on December 15.

About ratio issues, i never faced that with my br-iso. Neither with mkv but i don't have a lot.

I have a lot of .mpg files and it's visible and it is playing fine on the NTV550.
I just can't rename a *.ts file to a *.mpg file - it wont play.

This really has nothing to do with the NeoTV.
Wifi streaming for HD depends on the quality of the wireless signal you have. If you have a good signal 720p is easy and 1080p is possible but less likely. Regular ethernet is more than enough to do full BR ISO streaming.

ok, because i have Wifi with good signal and DLAN (Powerlan). The Netgear WIFI Addon for the NTV550 have the same Price as a 3. Powerplug for DLAN.

One more things before I forget.
You can't use the up/down with the timeseek button (like in PMS). You need to enter a number.
But you can move in time with the time slider also so its not a big problem.

.ts, .mpg are containers only. Check your codecs with mediainfo.

Actual firm is 265. No new firm this friday.

The Boxee Box has no problem playing .ts files. I tried a 1080i file last night.

FYI
The system log will have all your passwords displayed for your networks shares and so on. I don't know it this is the same log file that uploads to Netgear when the unit crashes but probably.

Dolby TrueHD: 7.1 lossless TrueHD audio - (30mbps-L4.1-TrueHD.m2ts) - It won't switch to TrueHD on my Onkyo 606 if I have played any other audio format before selecting a THD file. How do you like NTV550 compared to Boxee?

There is no problem flashing a different region firmware. I did it once just to see if my R5 BD rip of Avatar would play. For some reason, the region coding did not get removed when I ripped it.

Also, upgrading the firmware does not reset the region change count.

Bozzeta, Thanks for testing out. Some of the files in our test suite are from candre23's thread, and you have given some inputs for NTGR to look into. I will also contact NTGR NTV 550 PLM / dev about your results (particularly, the L4.1-8ref-6ch-FLAC-SSAsubs.mkv problem would make many anime users unhappy, and support for stylized subs would also be good)


No, those are not 'bad' rips, but they are not as per Blu-Ray standards, that is all. All the clips play fine in a HTPC and streamers such as WDTV Live Hub get, for example, that 1080i60 file processed correctly. Almost all streamers get stuck in one test stream or the other. It is just a matter of which one can come out as good as a HTPC in playback ability while retaining ease of use.

Really? I'll download these clips and try them out on my streamers.
