. . . You can do psuedo multi zone if you have a second Neo using the Follow Me feature, but it would be the same music.

Of course, if you have multiple Neos, there is nothing keeping you from playing different music in different zones.

maybe this can be the cause.

And his first audio track is DTS, so unless he has the Neo set to downmix DTS, he'd need a DTS capable receiver to hear the audio.

Get the Harmony One. You'll be glad you did. I just bought my third. $79 used on eBay and it works great.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate/64 and use a small program called HaneWin NFS and another one called Allegro NFS. Both of these work with Windows 7/64 and probably with most media players.

Does Netgear work on firmware updates for this player? Is there contact made with the Netgear guys or noone hears from them at all? They are a larger company, and usually the larger companies you don't hear from that much and firmware fixes come too far and inbetween?

If you just took 2 minutes to look at the Netgear forums you would have seen that since the release (1st of December for Europe) there have already been 2 releases, 1 stable and 1 beta firmware.

To me this shows that they are at least dedicated to resolve issues as quickly as possible. It also seems that they follow discussions on their forum.

On the fly playlist creation is already possible. You can do psuedo multi zone if you have a second Neo using the Follow Me feature, but it would be the same music. Additional visualizations has been requested but never implemented. Internet radio support got a big boost in the Neo in my opinion with the inclusion of RadioTime. Of course, anything related to hardware can't be changed so additional analog inputs would have to wait for the next model.
BTW: thats not my wishlist. you asked a question about what more music focused products are offering and that was a smattering of the more interesting ones.

So some more questions since mine hasn't come yet. So with on the fly play list creation. If I pick an artist and hit add to play list it will add music from that artist to a playlist or for example via genre?

I'm not sure what you mean by pseudo multizone. with the apple, logitech and sonos solutions I can easily play the same music synchronized to some number of zone all at the same time. What's the # of supported zones. Is it simultaneous to all zones and is it syncrhonized.

and does anyone know if this will playback Hi res FLAC files without dithering or re-sampling?

How bout standard stuff. Do CD rips come out at 44.1Khz and DAT rips at 48Khz or are they being re-sampled as is the case with most of the players on the market.

looks like my unit may have arrived at home but I'm on vacation for a bit so it will have to wait till I get back.

That I understand but how does one control it. The more music focused products offer a simple and unified way to manage a number of zones via their OSD or SmartPhone type interface. Sonos has this dialed in best. Logitech is a little weird and apples is simple but wont play some song in 2 zones and another song in 3 zones where as Logitech and Sonos can do this.

Well... All my problem files still don't play and auto fps is not working. 1 month of no fixes in my book.
They way this player handles subs with mkv/avi is a deal breaker. Also don't get why some sub formats are displayed with fonts that have transparent shadows. It looks like **** against the background.
For US customers there will likely be little problems, but for the rest of the world this not good.

Having a few issues with the 550. For some reason, when I first play a movie, I notice the res is 1080i. I have it set to 1080p/24 in the menu. When I switch it to 1080/24, all of a sudden the video starts to stutter and drop the audio, like it doesn't have enough bandwidth. I have it wired direct to my router and playing from my pc shares. With the a-110 I had a problem, but it was myihome, once I just went to direct shares it was fine.

I have my folders shared over multiple drives attached to a pc running xp media center. Only 10/100 realtec nice in the pc, gigabit router cat 6 cable. Get between 50-80Mbs on the netgear test. I downloaded a nfs server program and have it running. How do I get nfs to work with the 550?? Tried to manually setup the share with nfs in the menu, but no luck. Pc name is mediapc and one folder is called moviesf, for example.

This sounds not like a bandwidth problem because the information will be streamed bit by bit and converted in the player whatever resolution you have selected. A player can not tell your server to send less information just because you have selected eg 720p.
It's either a deinterlacing or codec issue or autofps problem if you can play everything else.

It plays everything fine sometimes, but sometimes I notice it is playing 1080i and when I switch res to 1080p/24. The movie starts to slow down and stutter.

Auto fps is off. Doesn't work at all. You would think after the patch it would at least detect ONE blu ray iso or m2ts file as 1080p/24 no??
After +8 months you would think that they would have that fixed yes
I like that it playes progressive mp4, but the rest is mehh...

720p have you checked alising problems with your Knight and Day yet?
My panasonic bluray does not have problems with those scenes.
Just speculating here, but could the reason for no external bluray support be that Netgear would have to implement Cinavia because it's legally bounded to AACS license now?
Cinavia on a media streamer would not be good...

I upgraded to the new .275 firmware, but have found a few issues. Mainly I can't get my SD card to format. I've tried 2 different cards and it keeps saying that it can't read it. How can i revert to previous version?

BTW, it did fix the youtube issue, but I never use it. Everything else is great, but the system is overall less stable. I guess that is to be expected with a beta version.

Yes they will. There is more product slated for January then there was for December. But quantities will still be limited but should be 2 to 3 X what it was in December. Bob Silver Netgear

You should be able to just do a regular update from the Neo and it will find the .268 version and update you. It may warn that the update version is previous to your current version. Just ignore and proceed.

I have been searching, so I apologize if I missed an answer somewhere. I have a lot of .Flac music files with some Windows Media Lossless files mixed in the same folder. It seems that the wma lossless files cause the Neo to crash. Does the Neo support wma lossless? I assumed it did. If so, maybe there is a tagging or other problem with the way I ripped the wma lossless files.
Thanks. Dean
Quick answer to my own question on previous post. The wma lossless files do indeed cause a crash. I deleted them and am reripping those files to .flac (which works great).

Fist time I inserted a SD card i put it upside down. the card was listed in some of the menus so i asumed it was right , when turned around the spring mechanism could be felt clicking lightly in to place. then is showed up in more menu's

Exactly... audio track 2 will not play at all. Audio track 1 will require downmix or a DTS receiver.

The claim is that neither track will play not just the vorbis track

+1 .. I have 2. One in the Master Bedroom and one in the Garage. These are awesome little remotes. Tough to beat for the price and great for one handed surfing. I hardly use my Pronto 7500 in the bedroom anymore.

My panasonic bluray does not have problems with those scenes.

I only did a quick test and need to re-visit but:
1) I can't test 1080p yet (awaiting fix from netgear).
2) At 1080i I don't see any scaling artifacts although the image is nowhere near as good as 1080p23.976 from my htpc. (probably different processing from tv at 1080p23.976 vs. 1080i)
3) At 720p both netgear & htpc are terrible in the above scenes. The htpc is much worse than the netgear. (didn't expect such a difference to be honest).
4) My blu-ray player destroys them both in every test (no surprises here).

The image posted is a screen cap via remote desktop (I'm not at home) I posted for fun. I deliberately resized the tmt3 (my blu-ray player software) window to show the scaling artifacts. Now when testing the neo I can't remember if the bottom of the doors were that bad, I remember the vertical door shut lines breaking up though.
The cage scene is not subtle at all, extremely noticeable. The steel mesh is seen badly shimmering (think moire pattern in MI:3 stairs).
Can you test the cage scene on boxee @ 720p & let me know? At the end of the day playing blu-rays at 720p makes no sense to me so this doesn't bother me.
