Netgear NeoTV 550 - Page 187

You are correct in regards to Netgear NAS devices although I think Marty was basically saying the same thing. He just didn't elaborate as much as you.

I think the clarification is important. The limits of RAID always apply when you mix sizes; however that is very different from saying that 3 TB drives are not supported.

I apologize if I'm part of the "off topic" problem. I was responding to an observation that 3TB support for the NEO has not received many votes. My point was that a lot of NAS/Neo users probably started out (as I did) mixing 750's with 1TB's, then moved on to mixing 1TB's with 2TB's when they were introduced. Now we have 3TB's being a relatively new introduction. My point was the immediate demand for 3TB NEO support may not be there yet. I never said 3TB's were not supportted under RAID.

Not sure why it started doing this, but now whenever I turn on the NEO it does this routine for close to a minute sometimes. The TV flashes in and out at the same time.

Simplink goes by various names but it is a feature of recent displays that allows the display to communicate with compatible source devices such that if the source is powered up the display will also power up.
This can cause HDMI handshake problems even if the display and source are powered separately.

So I gather my snap, crackle, and flashing problem sounds like an HDMI shake issue? I can play with those settings and maybe change cables.

Refresh my memory. Was anyone able to get the Neo to successfully play a *.m3u or *.wpl playlist off the network? I haven't been able to do that.

Thanks,
TF

There is some problem if the audio track is DTS-MA. (output HDMI and decode to multi-ch LPCM).

If it's blu-ray iso full rip, it plays fine with issue. If it's MKV, it output 2 ch LPCM only. Using Clown BD make title only folder or title only ISO the result is bad too. Sound track is fine, if I burn it to disc and played ok (DTS-MA) from bd player.

Any thought? Does NeoTV550 actually support DTS-MA covert to multi-ch LPCM?

EDIT: OK, some mistake. Clown BD folder output or title only ISO works fine. Only MKV got DTS-MA problems.

It's nice that you can put a friendly name for the shared folders on your PC, but can you change the name display of the front or rear USB drives?

"Back USB" is not a very kid or wife friendly name when it comes to locating content. Most of my movies are on an attached 2TB USB HD and I'd like it to say something like "Hollywood Movies".

thanks!

Hi guys,

Just bought ntv550 and wnce2001 universal adapter.

Have access to internet via ntv550, can see wnce2001 on pc's network map.

When I run the config manager, it initially detects the ntv550 but when it goes to configure it the program decides it can't detect it.

Have turned off firewall, rebooted everything a number of times.

Using windows 7 pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, ready to throw the thing out a window...

I was beginning to think beta 3.1.16 was the last one we were ever going to see.

Has anyone gotten network music playlists (m3u or wpl) to work correctly?

It could well be defective but try this first.
Use the TV mode button on the remote upper right corner to cycle through the output resolution. The Neo can output from 480i to 1080/p24 and everything in between
IIRC the Neo powers at 480 and then switches to 1080p. If your display can not accept that there will be a black screen.

Also use the PC to access the Neo IP address. If succesful you can access the system settings as well as audio/video. With system you can order a restart and video is used to lock to the output resolution compatible with your TV.

Hello guys,

I'm a happy owner of the Netgear. The BD playback is great and PQ is great in my JVC HD350 projector. I already have a multiregion blu-ray player for my discs but a friend of mine bought the Netgear to have a secondary blu-ray player with a different region. He uses a BD-ROM trough USB and it works great.

He is very happy with the Netgear's PQ and he says it looks even better than his samsung blu-ray player. He really would like to play all his discs with the Netgear but the has many region A and many region B. And with the Netgear you have to choose...

I'm curious about the blu-ray region code system. Is there any way to reset the allowable changes of the region code in the Netgear NTV550?

I searched but it seems not many people is interested in having a true multiregion blu-ray player (for discs) with this Netgear. And it's much cheaper than other options...

Hello King Conan

The Region Code setting on the NTV can only be changed 5 times after which the setting is fixed and can not be reset by FW Update, Factory Reset or anyother method.

Apparantly this was a condition of the Blu-Ray Licensing.

Hope this helps.

Kevin

Thanks,

that's what I guessed. We'll have to wait for a "jailbreak" solution...

And if it never happens it's still a great player.

I had the same problem with power up screen and then black. This worked for me from the neo site.

25. Changing TV mode if there is no picture. If you switch your TV and there is no picture (due to resolution not supported, or different PAL/NTSC type), press from the Main Menu to activate the mode switching screen. (Press first if you are not sure you are in the Main Menu.) Then:

· Press again to cycle from PAL to NTSC (or vice versa) and wait 10 seconds

· If there is still no picture, press again to cycle back from NTSC to PAL (or vice versa).

· Note that cycling PAL/NTSC resets the display mode to the monitor default, which in most cases should result in a picture on the screen.

I want to play an album of WAV files. I have the files named 01 Title.wav, 02 Title.wav and so on. I can't figure out a way to get the NTV550 to play them in order. I thought maybe with a playlist but can't find information on that. Anyone have any ideas? I can get FLAC and probably all other files to do this but not WAV. Converting to another format is not an option.
Just play of folder containing that files; but .wav aren,t gapless.

Edit.

I just try, and it seems that way works in the previous firmwares. Now (3.2.16 EU) I have randomly playing of .wav files in folder.
But if I browse folder and play first file (highlight first file and press PLAY), then next files are play in order.
Playing folder containing flacs works correctly, choose folder and pres PLAY to get playing those files in order.

How many people are seeing issues with BD-ISO playback? I for one am having problems with Raising Arizona chapter menu popping up while playing the movie. I haven't played very many ISOs so I don't know how widespread the problems are. It strikes me as odd that Netgear would go to the length of getting BD certification and then not better maintain their firmware for BD playback. Reminds me of a cheap, no name BD player.
As far as I remember, NetGear never did get BD certification on the NTV-550.

About the 3 dozens or so BD ISO I played, I recall I only had issue with the King's Speech when only the menu would load, and 127 Hours when nothing when I got nothing on the screen despite getting no error message, the rest seem to have play rather well.

Interesting. According to DTS, DTS-HD MA bitstreaming is reserved for devices with BD certification. Netgear would be breaking their licensing agreement with out proper certification.

That is precisely my point. If you want to market a device as being able to play BD-ISO, it should be able to do it completely not half-a$$. Netgear needs to get on the ball. The NeoTV would be truly awesome for me if it could reliably play ISOs.

What do you mean half assed?? It plays all my blu ray isos perfect. Never had a problem yet.
