To bad it doesn't have MultEQ XT-32.

I'm going to take a good look at this one. I am debating on getting the 6004 or wait and get the 7005.

Same here - it's on my short list. The others are the Denon 4311 and Integra DTR-70.2.

I'm thinking of going from Rotel separates to the SR7005 to take advantage of the new features I currently don't have such as HDMI 1.4, Audyssey, better video processor and the ability to stream music from the internet.

The question is do you guys think I'll lose out on sound quality going this route? Never had a Marantz before.

Why not purchase the AV7005? Its the same electronics, just in a pre-amp version...then you can still use your (excellent) Rotel amp and just swap the preamp. Alternatively, you could buy the SR7005 and use the pre-outs to your amp...then you could compare the sound out of both!

I too am thinking about going to either the AV or SR7005 from my Rotel RSX-1055 and wondering if I'll miss the Rotel's sound to get all the latest tech my Rotel is sorely lacking.

How will the video scaler compare to the DVDO Edge which also uses an Anchor Bay chipset? Does it have a gaming mode?

Also curious how the Phono Stage is on these units vs. a cheaper stand alone one.

I'm having issues with my current amp (RMB-1077), that's the main reason of going with the receiver instead of the processor.

Hopefully somebody that gets one soon can tell us the differences. I used to have a 1055, very good receiver.

Am I missing something????? The pic of the rear chasse shows standard 7 channel Speaker Terminals, but allso, High and Wide channel, speaker terminals. Is it 7, 9 or 11 channel amp?????????????

It's supposed to be a 7 channel amp but I think you can connect the height and wide speakers and power them with amps thru the pre outs.

Sorry, I guess we crossed wires. You said yes using preamp outputs, but there are clearly speaker terminals on the back panel for the extra channels, implying there are extra amps. Hopefully there'll be "real" literature on their website soon. - Don

Ya, it's cool, what I was trying to say is that you could power those with an external amp.

I'm not sure why they put the wire terminals separately, but I believe you'll be able to select which ONE set of them to play through at any given time. Actually I believe they have all three as terminals so that the Audyssey setup can be entirely (mostly) automated. That way as long as you hook up the speakers to the right terminals, it doesn't have to rely on you telling it whether you have front high, front wide, or rear surrounds as your extra 2 channels. I say this because this is the way Onkyo does it.

I have run into this guy before (amsound2.com)...he is a GRAY MARKET DEALER, NOT MARANTZ AUTHORIZED! If you google him, you will see that his business is being run out of his garage...the company address is in a residential area in Florida. He also used to have a lovely "CEDIA" logo on his site, but after checking with CEDIA, he was NOT a member! I notice now that the logo is gone...but he still has a questionable "CEA" logo there...If you buy from him, you GET NO WARRANTY...buyer beware!

Actually, I asked the Marantz rep during a recent training and you can not add an additional amp for 9.1 or 11.1 surround. This unit is limited to 7.1 (or 7.2) operation. You can select between using surround back, height, or wide speakers, but never more than 7 speakers total. They give you 9 speaker terminals to make it possible to switch between modes if you have 9 speakers hooked up at the same time, but you can never use all 9 at the same time, external amps or no.

If you are looking to do a 9.1 or 11.1 (or .2) theater, look at the Denon or Onkyo/Integra units. Since 99% of home theater owners are doing 7.1 or 5.1 anyway, I dont think this will matter too much.

Wow, Great to know. I thought that even if you buy from an unauthorized dealer you would still get the manufacturers warranty. I guess I will steer clear of that place. Thanks again.

I have wondered about this guy. I don't anything about him but he has been running the exact same ad for a used PSB Imagine system for ~ a year or so.

Well on audiogon he has a very good feedback rating A++++ as a matter of fact so if you need something that you don't care about warranty or if it's used he seems honest enough. But I am not buying new from him thats for sure.

Sent the guy an email asking how he sells for less and about warranty and here is his response. Is what he says he is doing correct as far as warranty goes? He is selling the 7005 for $1198 P S/H.

^ So long as you can count on new product delivered, I think buying "authorized" is a bit overrated. Seeing the 3 year failure rate is less than 3% with AVRs on the whole, the VAST majority of problems (if any) will occur outside of most warranty periods anyway.

And, even IF you do have an issue, chances are great the cost of the repair (especially on a $1500 AVR) won't exceed the most times, termendous savings that can be had.

Not trying to say buying "unauthorized" is the greatest decision in the world, simply stating that it's a matter of weighing ALL the factors. Sometimes saving $500 right from the jump can make a lot of sense for many, as it affords them the opportunity to purchase product with performance and features that would normally be out of reach. And of course such a luxury does not occur without an increased risk.

TCARCIO - I had a problem with a Denon that required repairs earlier this year. I was asked for a copy of the receipt so they could check the warranty dates and that it was purchased from an authorized Denon dealer.

As other have stated, it's a risk each individual has to weigh.
