The Official Marantz SR7005 Receiver Page!! - Page 42

^Yes, no problem. The two outputs (on the AV7005, but not all units) are essentially an internal, passive Y-cord split themselves. If using one long run and then splitting it later is beneficial to your wiring scheme, then by all means do so.

Thanks alot, that is what I thought.

I am really torn about what receiver to buy. I sold my elite (I have been Pioneer all my life but wanted to change for no good reason) and 2 subs on craigslist last nite, so I have an HDMI from the cable box to the tv and a bunch of other wires and my MA's laying around my living room waiting for a new receiver. Epik Empires will be ordered soon.

I have always been a fan of Marantz (bro-n-law had a receiver 40 years ago). I am having a hard time justifying the extra money of this receiver over the Onkyo 809. It is about twice the price.

I read about 30 pages of this thread last night trying to talk myself out of this and saving some money but so far to no avail. You guys are not making the decision to save money an easy one.

Periodically I listen to alot of music, and I know the Marantz will sound alot better than the Onkyo, but $800 better?

I also cannot find any definite proof one way or the other that one brand is more reliable than the other.

You can read about the Onky's running hot. Since heat is the killer of electronics, a unit that runs cooler should have a better chance of lasting longer. I do not have a problem with Onkyo. One of my three AVR's is an Onkyo (805) and the only problem that I have had with it is an HDMI connection. My Onkyo is in an open front cabinet, but I did install a cooling fan to pull heat out of the cabinet because I was concerned with heat build up. If choosing between Marantz and Onkyo and the features were the same, I would pick Marantz. Email me if I can help you.

Knightmare situation.

At first i thought there was somthing up with my remote control but after testing the remote to see if its putting out an IR siganl (which it is) i can only conclude that my amps at fault in that its not picking up the IR signal.

Ive only had the receiver 2months and have always found the IR to be poor to say the least but now its not even working. Can something be done in regards to firmware or am i really going to have to go to the effort of packaging the unit up and sending to a UK repair agent.

You might try buying a cheap universal remote that lists the Marantz 7005 AVR in it's data base. If it also has problems then the IR receiver may be bad. If it works fine then the problem is with the transmitter. Have you tried new batteries in the remote? When the batteries get weak, it can cause erratic behavior.

Hi,
I battle to setup airplay on my SR7005. My receiver is connected to my rooter. I can use the remote app on my Iphone to controle my receiver. The problem is I dont get the airplay icon on Itunes, or on my Iphone.
What am I missing?

Yea, 1st thing i done was change the batteries but that didnt solve anything. I know the remote is fine after testing it so the only possible result now is the IR receiver as you put it is at fault.

In regards to the airplay. Im kinda struggling to. I dont have an ipod device to control the receiver with but i though i could automatically stream content from itunes on my pc without having to load itunes first on the pc. Seems pointless really. I might aswell just stream my music over the network as i was doing originally. That way i dont have to log on to the desktop etc. Granted it would be handy if i had an apple device to control it with but i dont.

I only done the Airplay upgrade a few days ago, could this have anything to do with my IR problem.

Really annoyd to say the least. I will probably have to go to the extent now of packaging it up, travelling the guts of 160miles there and back to leave to the av retailer and wait for it to go to repair agents

Hi all. I have had a long line of Denon Home Theater Receivers and I believe I am finally ready to throw in the towel. I currently have an AVR 3311ci (I have had two of them but the first was returned soon after purchase for multiple problems.) The second model has lasted a year, but has multiple HDMI input problems. I have been looking at comparable models, but wanted to ask the experts if you have had many HDMI issues with the Marantz. In particular with the Denon, I have had issues with HDMI handshake with my PS3, issues with connection to my Directv receiver, and now the latest issue is with the HDMI control/ARC reverse HDMI functions between the unit and the monitor. I also have 4 ohm impedance Polk in wall speakers that I don't feel get their full value from the Denon even with the front three speakers being powered by my Emotiva 4 channel amp. In summary, any HDMI/connection complaints with the Marantz? Any problems with 4 ohm speaker use? Any other suggestions? Thanks all!

I think the problem is with registration of airplay. Get the following error message: Your Upgrade ID is either not valid or has already been activated. Please check your information and enter the correct Upgrade ID and Model Number. If you continue experiencing problems please

What should I do. I double checked all the info needed for registration.

Hi guys -

Perhaps this has happened to some of you. The SR7005 is being used as an HDMI hub for a bluray player, XBOX360, PS3 and Direct TV. Every once in a while, regardless of what input i am using, the receiver will change the input on it's own one input down. For example, my inputs are Bluray, PS3, then XBOX and finally Direct TV. If I'm watching Direct TV, the receiver will change on it's own to XBOX. If I'm on the PS3, it'll change to Bluray, etc etc. Very odd. Any ideas? I called Marantz and they said to do a restart ( hold sleep and Enter, etc etc )

Thanks

^^
It's possible that it could be the HDMI-CEC feature in these devices, so if you're not using that feature, set it to OFF.

Hi guys, as this thread already has a lot of followers which have experience with the SR7005, I would like to ask you one simple question: If you could buy either the SR7005 or a Rotel RSX1560, would you still buy the Marantz? and why?

Kind regards

Marco

Getting rid of my Onkyo TX-SR707 because I'm looking for more zones and network connectivity. Looking at the SR-7005 but I need a AVR thats zones 2 and maybe even 3 can accept Digital in's from either HDMI or Toslink. Does this unit do that? We host a lot of parties and use apple tv to stream our music from a iPod touch and the apple tv does only HDMI or toslink.

Thanks!

No, sorry, the zone outs will relay analog stereo RCA in sources only, with the possible exception of stereo, PCM sources coming into the digital Toslink and coaxial jacks, but not HDMI ins, at all. [This is through my analysis of my similar (preamp only) AV7005's manual.]

Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but did you know that the Airplay feature is free for the remainder of 2011?
Yes it is. A while back i posted about a blown center channel. Well, Redfli electronics sent me a brand new unit while I still had the old one so I would not be without for a single day! Awesome.
Airplay is working great. using iPad2 as universal remote with Wizz app and no problems.

Yes, you need to pay for the upgrade. At least I did.

Nah - Airplay is free thru the end of 2011 in the USA.

Yes, the update seems to be free till Dec 2011. Now i have more questions.

How seamless the update was? I am really scared to do any firmware updates as the last one fried up the Ethernet card. For this Marantz came back and said, the don't recommend customers to do the upgrades themselves. This is really weird. Is this true? If so, why the user manual talks about the update process?

My receiver is still with the service guys and it is nearly 2 months. I have paid $300 for the replacement board last month and I really don't know what is taking these guys so long. Needless to say I am frustrated to the core. What is best escalation mechanism to highlight these issues to Marantz?

Scorpio - I ran the update last week with zero issues. I have Verizon FIOS 20/20 and my Marantz uses a CAT-6 ethernet cable. You'll almost always have better performance with a wired connection.

Just a thought - Marantz may be having supply issues due to the disasters in Japan.

Good morning,

Please note that I have the following two problems with my recent Marantz SR7005 Airplay update:

As soon as I did the update I noticed that when the receiver is in standby mode and I switch on my windows PC (I am using windows 7) the receiver turns ON by its own and goes to NET/USB stage. Is there a possibility to stop this so that it will just turn ON automatically only when I try to play something using the iTunes program and select the SR7005 speakers?

Also I noticed that when I use the iTunes program and select my computer speakers the program works fine but as soon as I select the SR7005 speakers the program works for three seconds (from the SR7005) and then stops on its own.

Please advice on the above two problems.

Have a nice day,

Kind regards,

Chris

Thanks for the confirmation. Yes, I was told the same reason.

I got the fixed receiver last Saturday. To my surprise, I am now seeing HD Radio and Sirius instead of Tuner. I live in Chennai, India and hence HD radio will not work. I think I ended up getting US version of board (that went bad during the previous firmware update) instead of the European version.

I have written to D&M today. I will update if I get some updates.

HI All,
Just picked up the SR 7005 to replace an old SR-14EX, so nice to finally have HDMI, but have some questions:

I have an Oppo BD-83, 7.1 Setup w/ Linn 5 Channel Amp driving Left, Center, and Right. Everything is HDMI right now, haven't setup up analog inputs..yet. However, every BluRay I put in, the SR7005 defaults to DTS Surround. Star Trek, which is Dolby TrueHD, defaults to DTS Surround. Tried Thor, Star Trek.. The only BluRay disc I've seen otherwise is the Spears and Munsil calibration disc which correctly displays DTS HD, Dolby TrueHD, etc.

Am I missing some config?

Thanks...
^^^

go into the disk menu and select the audio track you want...

the avr doesn't say to the player "give me xyz"... the avr says to the player (during the handshake process) "i can take xyz, zyx, etc."... once the handshake is established, the avr is passive... it takes whatever you give it...
Nope - so just tried another example..Inception should be DTS-MA. Selected audio track in Oppo 83, still SR 7005 defaults to DTS Surround.
^^^

check settings on oppo next... as noted, the avr is passive for this...
Thank you sir! A quick little reset of defaults on the Oppo and good to go. It was setup for Analog Inputs originally - so config must have been off.
