It wasn't ... when either Source Direct or Pure Direct modes are used, all Audyssey features (MultEQ XT, Dyn EQ, Dyn Vol) are disabled, which is why you'll generally not want to use either of these modes after running Audyssey.

However, I do have a report......the amp came about 1:30 had a car appointment, but when I got back....got the Onkyo unhooked and the marantz hooked up and everything worked as planned....so.....

Well, guys, the phils came alive.....WOW, do not want to offend anyone, but the marantz SR7005 was superior in SQ, etc. etc. than the Onkyo and Emotiva put together!!!

I can't believe I set the whole thing up and it all worked the first time. I have performed audyssey, but have only listened to Pandora....in Pure Direct Mode.....all I can say if the Phils sound this good with streaming, wonder how it will sound playing my PC FLAC, etc files!!!! Not to even mention SACDs. With American Idol on in the office, I will have to experiment with that tomorrow.

For the first time I believe I heard them as they were meant to be heard, like at Capital Audio Fest.....or maybe even better.

Could not be happier with my setup! This is a great amp, will know more tomorrow, but I am sure things will just get better!

Looking forward to your impressions, Joseph....hopefully this Friday

I can post some of my pics later, if you don't mind!

To add...After PP & Jessica's outstanding performances on American Idol, we went in the theater and tried a movie with netflix..... we watched with Dynamic EQ one and I don't think it was on for the Pure Direct mode. Audyssey was done after the prelimary audition. However, I remember listening to Pure Direct and I wasn't sure DEQ was on or not, just made me begging for more. Will be testing Avatar and The Lord of The Rings in bluray tomorrow.

It's scaring me as to how much I love this amp!

I am glad the amp is runing well for u ,That's good news for me too .the bad news is i will not ge tmy marantz SR7005 till next thursday because my package is comeing from across the united state's and vann's told me that it's a expensive item so they want to take there time shipping it to me .I mean i dont mind but the wait is killing me .I hoe there jokeing with me and it comes this week.but idk u never know tho .I cant wait to pop in THE GREY and see what the bluray sound's on my klipsch speaker's i just know the sound is going to be fantastic .I look forward to seeing some picture's or your setup when u get the time to upload some ,as for me i will upload sometime maybe at the end of the week or if i can when i get home from work today at night.

I hope that someone can help. I am also not sure if this is the correct forum for SR7005 issues.
I have a SR7005 that I bought used (very good price), and I am not getting any output at all.
I plug the power in, plug a tv in and turn the unit on, and I get nothing. All the front panel controls work and I can reset the processor, but I get no images on the screen.
Am I missing a step?
Even the optical outputs do not show any light, so I am thinking the inpout board which contains the HDMI inputs/outs etc is dead.
I took the cover off, and I probed the top board and I am getting power to the chips, but I think the dsp may be damaged.
Does anyone have a service repair manual for this receiver and is there a way to pruchase just this board? Can I just replace this board, or will it need to be reprogrammed after re-assembly?

Since I have not had a problem yet with mine, I cannot help you, however, I contacted Marantz with a question prior to receiving the amp and I found them to be very helpful, maybe that is an option, if you haven't already done so.

Welcome to AVS Forum.

Yes, you have come to the right place for issues, as this is the dedicated thread for SR7005 owner's to discuss the unit. After doing a microprocessor reset, passing an HDMI connected source should be plug-n-play. What video source are you trying to pass through to the TV?
Thanks for the reply.
I tried passing a directv signal etc and a PS3, but nothing.
I don't even get the on screen menus....it doesnt do anything, although the front panel is active and I can choose sources etc.

On your SR7005, once you turnit on, do your optical input/output on the back of the unit show light? Mine do not whcih is odd since my other receivers show light on these....that is why I am thinking that the board that these are on is dead.

I tried using just headphones and selecting the tuner, but I dont get any sound

Also, I dont have to run anything special once I plug the power??? Do I ahve to have speakers installed, or can I use just the headphones?

Shoud I get an on screen menu on the HDMI Monitor 1 out automatically or do I need to do something.

I followed the simple setup process in the manual, without speakers and got nothing.

I also have reset the processor several times...

If someone has any trouble shooting ideas for me, it wouldbe greatly apprecioated. Also, where can I get the service manual? And where can I buy the questionable board to replace it out if needed

Have you tried both HDMI 1 & 2 out?
Yes tried both

Guess now you know why you got such a good price.

Not sure about Marantz, but some of the Denon service manuals (and parts) are available from the Authorized Denon parts suppliers. Give Marantz a call and see if they can provide you with more information.

You can download the service manual at elektrotanya dot com. If you
have a scope you can check the output signal of U1801.

It might be best to call Marantz and find out who is the largest repair
facility in your area then get a hold of them and see if they can even
do the repair.

If you can get the original bill of sale then maybe there will be some
waranty

Good luck and let us know

Just got my receiver back from the shop, and it turns out I blew a channel (when setting up a 5.1 setup from a 3.1). Anyway, I did test tones and no more static amongst the white noise on the surround right! Whew! Re-ran Audyssey and all is good.
It was under warranty as I just bought it last Oct. Also I have one quick question. Should I keep "Dynamic Volume" option ON? It asked after I finished Audyssey. Some people say no (same for Dynamic EQualizer)

P.S. - Though annoyed that the shop lost the Auxiliary label plate and said they never even opened the door, and it came back with white tape on the front. Had to re-order it from Marantz. Only $17 shipped to AZ from NJ. But if anyone has to get it serviced in Arizona (there are only 2 shops in the whole state), I went to Dyna-Tronics in Phoenix.

Generally it's best to leave Dyn EQ set to ON at all times for all sources (as it helps to boost the bass/surround audio at volume levels below 0db and most folks normally listen at below 0db master volume) and only use Dyn Vol to suit your preference (ie. watching cable/sat TV to tame loud commercials, or for late night Blu Ray/DVD viewing if others are sleeping, with "Medium" being the most common setting).

I tried to find the repair manual on elektrotanya dot com... couldn't find it. It states that the file has been deleted or renamed. Were you able to find it?

Are you seeking what's most pleasing to the ear? What offers the greatest dialog intelligibility at low levels? What most closely resembles real life experience of quieter sounds? What is least likely to disturb neighbors?
The answer for each of these may very well be different.

Although at the conclusion of the auto calibration mode it asks what to do, in truth these sound modifications can be turned on and off, at will, on the fly, so you aren't locked into listening just one way (as one might assume from the unit's question).

Try for yourself.

Ran audyssey as I usually run it with the Onkyo receiver and the right side was overwhelming, tried again and all the sides and rears were overpowering in comparison to the fronts.

So, I set the receiver back to default and things sounded much better. So, I guess I will have to find the tripod, obviously it made a difference....

So far I do not miss THX.

Trying to figure out DNLA with the receiver. I have been doing so for 3 weeks with the OPPO with no results, the PC cannot find the ethernet or wireless devices. Made all kinds of PC changes, with many email conversations with OPPO's excellent support. More work/research to get this right!!!

As promised finally the set-up, the 7005 is at the bottom right. The screen you will see the Bluray live Roy Orbison concert in B&W. Excellent!! The recently made trio is the Dennis Murphy Philharmonic 2 speakers. Also on the left corner a direct servo.

The 7005 performed really well this Bluray, very live!!!

The Dyn Vol makes sense for the commercials, though I believe my source (satellite from DIRECTV), I haven't experienced it recently where watching a show then to commericial the volume has changed going higher. I do have it set to on. And also I believe Congress passed a law where it forces the broadcasters to level out the volume on commercials to match programming.

As for Dyn EQ, my ears really are relatively "noob" when it comes to really discerning sound. Right now my ML (Martin Logan) 5.0 setup sounds excellent, and wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Dyn EQ being ON or OFF. But good to know it's changeable via the Marantz. I'll play around with it.

Thanks guys.

trust me, you will be able to tell the difference between deq on or off*...

* unless you listen at a very loud level ALL of the time... in which case, it won't matter for long anyway...

Haha! Good point. I live in an apt condo, and for now, no one below me, but still an apt. So I listen at moderate levels, though on weekends, if I play a movie, I'll bump up the vol during day, early evening.

you will definitely benefit from deq...

Thanks, Ehurd, It is the best I do not have a designated theater, well other than our family room, with retirement home communities, most just have that and 3 bedroom, or maybe a bonus and it is usually upstairs and we didn't want 2 levels.

Hope to get some of those reflections taken care of....starting with rugs. Gotta find matching!!!

Jus learning about the 7005, really different than the onkyo, but I will get there. So far, very happy.

I verified that they both are set to ON (Dynamic Vol, Dynamic Equalizer). What I did notice is that there are two OTHER options and both set to OFF: HT Equalizer, Dynamic Range Compression. Should those be ON?

Well, I got a little excited this afternoon, when I right clicked on a song, wanted to send it from files to jRiver and it said send to Marantz 7005......so I did, but somehow it is saying I need AirPlay and can't download it.....says I haven't registered the 7005 yet. But unfortunately I did several days ago.

Anybody run into this?

Hi all,

I have a sr7005, and am looking for some help as to how to get the subwoofer to work when playing music through my Squeezebox.

When watching movies, my system plays 5.1 and the woofer is in full effect. When I switch to listening to music through the CD input using my squeezebox, I get 2.0 sound with no woofer. What setting do I need to change to get 2.1?

Cheers,

Sean

Most likely you have the front main speakers set as LARGE ... so reset them to SMALL with 80hz crossovers and the lower bass from CD audio will pass to the sub.
