Hello is there a way to hook up a device to my AVR for both analog and digital inputs? I have a Squeezebox touch that has a built in DAC that uses analog(RCA ) and optical. If so, how do switch between the two? Thx
post #1952 of 2145
You would have to use different inputs on the SR7005, one for analog, one for optical. Otherwise the SR7005 will prioritize digital over analog unless you go into a deep menu setting to tell it otherwise and that would be a much more awkward way to switch between the two.

thanks, I had that feeling.

I'm having trouble setting up ARC with this paired with a Panasonic P65GT50. The volume control between tv and receiver still seems independent, and can't find any options in menu pertaining to ARC. I've setup ARC no problems before with the same set and onkyo receivers, where the volume bar on tv will say master or whatever, or switching audio to home theater. Right now the volume controls are still independent. Could anyone shed light into what options I have to set for it to work?

Questions / comments about my current set up. While I patiently await my new KEF LS50's(3) and my new SVS12-NSD sub, I'm wondering if I'm getting the most out of my system. I have a Marantz ST7005 with my current 5.1 hooked into it. I also have a Adcom GFA- 555ms hooked into my zone to to power my multi-room. I also have a Niles 5 speaker selector to control the on/off and volume for the multi-room. I guess I'm wonder if im better off (if possible) to utilize the Adcom for the KEF LS50's and hook the Niles speaker selector into the zone 2 of my marantz? If this is possible would i achieve better results? If so whats happens when I want to utilize the 5.1 to watch movies? would I need to turn on the marantz(for rears/center and sub) While turning on the Adcom for the front L/R? Am i just over thinking this whole process? Thanks in advance?
Gellie

BTW cross posting this

Your current configuration is likely the best as the Adcom isn't going to provide much more power than will the AVR for the LS50's.

Please Help! I need to reset the microprocessor on my marantz and it wont work. When I press(on step 3) on/stanby and surround mode and auto nothing happens. No starts flashing. Am I doing something wrong? BTW im trying to restore to default. thx
post #1959 of 2145
As noted in Step 3 (below), the key is to press/hold the two buttons first and THEN power on the AVR.

Thanks that worked. However I don't think it restored to factory defaults. Example , I changed to name of input "sat" to"cable " and it still says "cable ". I did not start a step 1.

The service manual to the very similar AV7005 [the prepro version of the SR7005] says:

-How to clear the Backup Memory-
(1) Hold down the "SLEEP" and "AUTO" buttons at the same time for 3 seconds or more.
(2) The FL Display indicates "BACKUP CLEAR" while the memory is being cleared.
FLD B A C K U P C L E A R
(3) After the FL Display indicates "COMPLETE", the operation is completed.
FLD C O M P L E T E

I suspect it should be the same on the SR7005. It should also clear out any radio presets.

Thank you. I'll try that.

Hello, I'm having a big problem with my 2 month old Marantz SR 7005. This started about a week ago. I have my cable box, CD, DVD,Apple TV all hooked into the AVR. I have my LG LM 9600 hooked into the SR7005. went to put the TV/AVR on and i got a message on the TV that there was no single/input. i check all the cables and made sure i had the correct inputs selected. All to no avail. i tried unplugging TV and AVR, and changing the HDMI cable from the AVR to the TV. Nothing seemed to work. Next i tried hitting some of the buttons on the remote(A/D, HDMI and a couple of others ) and i received a picture, Yesterday same thing happened. This time everything went on fine(four about a hour) the the display went blank i got the "No single/input) However there was still volume coming from the receiver from the show I was watching. I tried the previous remedy's to no avail. Also i should mention that i can not access the menu GUI from the Marantzs . I ultimately reset the Microprocessor, which seemed to work. Does anyone have a clue whats going on? could i have a setting wrong? Also after i reset the Microprocessor i noticed 2 unexpected changes:
1st: i Notice the stand by light on the AVR is red rather than yellow.
2nd my Zone two volume is very low. i had to go into the input volume and crank up the L/R volume to +12?

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate all the advice i get on the forums!

I've been doing some research online. Could this be a "Handshake" issue? If yes, are them any remedy's?

Cable boxes often have problems interacting with receivers. You might try connecting the cable box's HDMI output directly to your TV, and the cable box's digital audio output to the receiver.
Thanks. I should run a optical from my cable box into the receiver?
Yes, optical from cable box to AVR.
thanks. When i connect the STB to the TV should it be into the ARC 1 or HDMI? Do I still need to have the TV connected into the AVR? Thanks this is just a bit confusing to me.
The receiver should be connected to the TV using the TV's ARC compatible connection, both so you can watch the video from a Blu-ray disc player or whatever other video sources you have plugged into the receiver, and so you can use the ARC connection from the TV to the receiver to listen to whatever inputs the TV provides (over-the-air broadcasts, network sources, etc.)

Connect the cable box to a non-ARC HDMI input on the TV.

Thanks again!

An alternative would be to connect component video wires (plus digital sound) from the cable box to the AV7005. The AV7005 has transcoding which will convert the signal to the HDMI out to the TV, [or you can simply pass the signal long to the TV without any alteration, using the AV7005's component video out]. Using my method will minimize how many devices need to be switched when going between cable TV and bluray, etc., and also preserves the on screen graphics (such as volume up and down and input select), that the AV7005 can conveniently overlay on top of the image.

Component video is capable of passing the full resolution of HD that a cable box can provide and any "degradation" of the signal because it is not all digital is more theoretical than real world. [It depends on the gear though, also keep in mind that there's often slight differences of image adjustments between the component and HDMI inputs of a TV (in fact they almost always have completely different setting for the two on most TVs), so any forum counter claims of "But the HDMI looks so much brighter, sharper and the colors POP, vs component ins " could simply be due to the variations in these image settings which could be easily neutralized through careful adjustments].

HDMI was invented to force nearly bullet-proof copy protection on consumers, not because component video was "visually challenged"; in fact component can even carry 1080P in some setups, not that cable boxes ever provide that, AFAIK.

Mine's connected to our wireless network with a product like this:

Holoniak: I was in the same boat as you, and since after the fact I realized you could go wireless, I actually went the "wired" route. but instead of running a long ethernet cable from living room to bedroom, I bought a powerline network adapter. It basically uses the copper wires within your home/apt. See my link below:

Netgear's Powerline Adapter XAV5004

So you connect that to your devices (in my case my AVR, and my DIRECTV Satellite receiver). And on the other end in my bedroom is the other single power adapter which then is connected to my router. Just another alternative. Has up to 4 Ethernet ports.

Here's a link to the PDF as well: Installation Guide for Netgear's Powerline Adapter XAV5004

thanks for another option. Sounds like it might be a better idea than going wireless?

Not necessarily better, though "wired" beats "wireless" anytime you can hard-wire a connection, but this is for those situations like mine (or at least I thought at the moment) where I could NOT go wireless on my AV receiver, and did NOT want to run an ethernet cable along the floor permanently or everytime I needed to use my AVR to get firmware updates or just to use it for my internet radio.

So both options work fine (especially for me as my DIRECTV satellite receiver DEFINITELY has to be wired, no wireless).

Again just wanted to point out another option for those that may be in my similar situation.

Be careful though with Ethernet through power lines, a lot of these adapters interfere with the audio equipment and cause audible degradation of the audio quality...
I still preferred to run an Ethernet cable through the false ceiling just for the sake of preventing interference through power lines...

Couple of questions......

Has anyone heard through Marantz support of adding Spotify yet. It is available on some of the new models (4).

And, for 2 channel I only listen to Source Direct, the quality is better for me streaming Spotify vial iphone5 with airplay..

The question that I have is why is SQ different with a sub in stereo mode than source direct?

I have, of course the SR7005 the PM8003 of which I thinking about building a set of two channel speakers with a sub.

Thanks,

Robert
AFAIK, the 2010 models (ie. SR7005) will not be getting Spotify. In STEREO mode Audyssey and bass management are both "enabled", so if your FL/FR speakers are set to SMALL/80Hz (as recommended), the sub gets the frequencies < 80Hz. In DIRECT mode Audyssey is disabled and there is no bass management so speakers are treated as LARGE and the sub would not fire with a stereo 2.0 signal (rather only with a DD/DTS 5.1 signal that had a dedicted .1 LFE track).

Thanks, JD, so would you say your comparison in using stereo mode with a sub and Source Direct without a sub, you prefer a sub? (Not Direct Mode).

I kind of understand what you are saying, but not totally.

I am getting ready to build a pair of monitors for 2 channel. I have two choices, one pair would not need a sub, but another would.

Since this is a small room, I would rather not have a sub.

Do you think you are missing some of the details SD provides? It's just sounds better to me and others say that as well.

Now, I have the PM8003 to and, of course this is where the new 2 speakers will go.

I think my question is would I loose detail in using a sub with this unit comparing Source Direct Mode? In this scenario, I mean the 8003.

I have contacted Marantz on this as well.

Thanks.

Guess the iphone5 and ipad and the SR7005 will have to work with Spotify.

I have always wanted to do a "separates" setup but, unfortunately, never got around to doing it. The closest I had ever came to actually doing it was just before my sophomore year in college at the University of Oklahoma in 1974 when I purchased my first-ever stereo setup which included a Marantz 1060 integrated amplifier.

Presently I am wondering how much benefit would I gain if I connected my SR7005 to the new Marantz MM8077 amplifier; the AV8801 prepro is out of reach for me at this time. Just wondering if anyone in this thread has had any experience with the new Marantz 7-channel amp with our shared AVR?

I would also be interested in a comparison between the SR7005's internal amplifier versus the MM8077. I am currently running a 7-channel setup with Energy loudspeakers.

Please help. I'm thinking of purchase a Oppo BDP-105 to utilize their DAC(among other things). The gentlemen at Oppo said I need to hook the 105 into my AVR via RCA(to utilize the DAC for the audio) and HDMI for the video. He said I need to change some setting on the SR7005 to bypass the audio from the HDMI. If this correct, how do i do this? Thanks in advance.
