Is this an NX810 series set, with dynamic edge-lit LED?

If so, anyone bought one yet and have an opinion?

UPDATE: nevermind I answered my own question, the NX801 at Costco is not the NX810 series.

My 60LX900 has panel part number LK600D3LA6N (Sharp). I'm not sure how to confirm if it's UV2A or not. Unlike the the 60NX801, the last character is 'N' and not 'S'.

Based on discussions here on AVS, the new NX810 should be a Samsung panel.
Technically speaking, "Sony" panels. The S-LCD plant is operated by both Samsung and Sony (50-50 minus 1 share)

Sony still handles their part of the production and is/can be separated from the panels Samsung produces. So they can still tweak such panels to their liking.
So anyone who thinks that Sony TV's are just a rebranded Samsung panel, think again.

Sony's 39% partnership with Sharp is EXCLUSIVE to product coming off the new XGEN Saiki Japan Line which are all UV2A panels - largest motherglass comes from this plant and the most economical cuts.

I did get a confirmation from a Sony Rep today that the HX810/710's were switching glass because Sharp production volume is too limited to fullfill all their needs and to incorporate 3D into the HX810.

I want to get a new 60" TV. I am leaning to Sony. If Sony made a 60" HX909 I'd have one now.

From what I can tell, the HX909, LX900, and NX810 all have the same image processing and essentially the same industrial design and features. Except for 3D which I don't care about. I've read several places that the HX909 and The LX900 have the same panel, and the same "resin" fill between the panel and the front glass. Based on this thread, it seems the NX810 will have a different panel.

The backlight on the 909 is Sony's best to date. The LX900 is two generations back, and the NX810 is in the middle. I got to see a 52" LX900 today and when watching a blue ray DVD with black bars on the top and bottom, the contrast and blacks change degrade pretty dramatically when viewed more than 5 degrees off center. I was pretty surprised. When viewed dead center, the black bars were very black. Just a little off center, and they are dark grey. In our family room I sit about 30 degrees off center so this is a concern to me. I need to find a store where I can play a DVD with black bars on a FX909 to compare.

IF the LX900 and HX909 have the same panel but a big back light difference, how important is that for me? I tried to find issues with the basic edge LED lighting on the LX900 and with the bright in store lighting I couldn't really find issues.

Is there another TV I should consider for the absolute best 60" picture? Color banding is something I've found on every plasma I've viewed and I really dislike that artifact.

I am in the exact same situation as you

I also want a 60" Sony but am not thrilled with the compromises of the LX900 (bad design was a quote from a Sony rep)
The new NX810 may be the answer (assuming a 60" HX909 is not forthcoming)
I am ready to order now- just waiting to actually see it an the NY Sony flagship store before pulling the trigger

Awaiting my new 55NX810 Tv.

SHipped from Sonystyte.com on Monday, BWI airport called me today to schedule the delivery for monday.

This set will be replacing my Pro101 fd. Kids wanted a 3DTV...(so did dad) Will sticky this forum for future use, settings and what not.

This set did well at the Flat panel shootout and DNICE himself told me it was an excellent display. He will be performing a calibration on this set hopefully very soon.

According to the "2010 Value Electronics Shoot-out".....The NX810 is even better than LG LX9500 and Samsung plasma ! (But only when you view it straight on , if you view it from an angle , it is not that good)

Finally some good news for Sony.

LOl...my family and I play on looking at the set straight on 99.9 percent of the time so that is pretty important in my book.

Yes, Except I don't think the glasses will fit very good on my 1 year old.

She can play with the box while we watch Cloudy w/ Meatballs.

Really looking forward to some of the 3D movies. And some 3D gaming in the near future.

So if i read this correctly "N" is for the Sharp panel and the "S" is for Samsung panel?

Is one better than the other?

Like most of the members here i'm kind of on the same boat. Since there is no 60" HX909 i think the closest to go with is the NX810 for 60" screen.

I am interested in the HX800, but was wondering how it differs from the NX800?

looks like that "deal" is not available

wonder about the accuracy though- they posted reviews from July for the NX810 when that model didn't exist then

I suspect it was really the NX800 they were selling at that price

Hard to say which is better. But indications are that the Sharp panels are slightly better according to this British review of the 40EX703. The US equivalent would be the 40EX700:

The KDL40EX703 is also the first Sony-branded HDTV we’ve reviewed that uses a Sharp UV2A panel, rather than the Super PVA type which Sony has been manufacturing with Samsung for half a decade now. It’ll be interesting to see if Sony’s new business partners can meet or exceed the generally high quality images that are characteristic of SPVA panels, while at the same time, keeping the chassis slim. Let’s see how the Sony KDL40EX703 stacks up!

Black Level
We were somewhat concerned that Sony’s movement away from SPVA panels would harm their TVs’ ability to produce satisfyingly deep black levels. SPVA is renowned in the LCD world for its contrast performance, and this is the first Sony BRAVIA display we’ve reviewed that features a competitor’s panel instead. The good news is that once we configured peak luminance output to our usual target, black level on the Sony KDL40EX703 measured at 0.04 cd/m2. This is a very nice result which is slightly deeper than Sony’s SPVA-based TVs, and all but identical (to the eye) as Samsung’s darkest.

I ordered a 60NX810 yesterday (Wednesday, the 15th) via Sonystyle and selected the 3 day freight option (which was the fastest delivery option they had).

Sony shipped the TV today, but they changed the shipping to 1 day freight (they didn't ask me, didn't charge me more, and I had no idea they did it until I entered the tracking number into Fedex's website) so it's scheduled to be delivered before 10:30am PST tomorrow (the 17th) according to Fedex.

Go figure?

Well keep in mind I'm in no way a audiophile/videophile so my opinion is probably pretty moot. And I'm writing this in comparison to the 55HX800 I had. And on that note all of my opinions could probably be based on the 60 being a larger TV. And on that note I'm going to call them "my HX800" and "my NX810" because I'm sure other people probably have different experiences, and I'm just going by my own. And I'm out of notes...

My HX800 showed a lot more light bleed from the edges than my NX810 does). I also haven't noticed my NX810 displaying clouding when there's white text on a black background but I've only been playing with the TV for a few hours now (I had to head to work as soon as the TV was delivered).

Windows 7 (for media center) recognizes it as a "SONY AVR" and sets the resolution to something silly (recommends 1280x720x60hz but sets it to 1920x1080x29hz). Easy enough to override though.

Logitech Harmony remotes have no clue what the TV is, but adding it as an LX900 (since they use the same remote) cures that.

The viewing angle seems wider on my NX810 than it did on my HX800.. on the NX810 I get a color shift around 35 degrees off center, but the color doesn't shift further beyond that and I'm only really noticing it because I'm looking for it.

I should note I only see a color shift when there's a static display, if the display is animated at all I don't notice it (but I'm sure there's people much pickier than me about that).

Now as for the 3D. I had adjusted the settings on my HX800 while set to 3D to get rid of as much of the ghosting as I could, the NX810 ghosts less than my adjusted HX800 did (they both ghost) and I haven't touched the settings while in 3D mode on my NX810 yet. Beyond that, the 3D is just more noticeable. Comparing Super Stardust between the NX810 and HX800 is night and day. But that could just be because my NX810 is larger and takes up more of my field of view. Motorstorm 3D rift looks about the same except when things are "close" then they pop out much more than they did on my HX800 (with less ghosting, if any)

My NX810 is just a damn pretty to look at also. :P When it's off (unless there's enough lighting around) it just looks like a black slab with a Sony logo. As for the logo, it's underneath the glass just like everything else, and looks like your typical fake chrome logo. But when you turn the TV on it glows white. It's actually pretty cool (as far as manufactures logos on TVs go). The edge of the TV to the edge of the panel is just under 1 1/2 inches.

Why have 2 of the 4 HDMI ports on the side instead of the back? Same as my HX800, HDMI 1 and 4 are on the back of the TV, 2 and 3 are on the side.

I went all Sony on this so have a HT-SF470 as the receiver for this setup.

The SF470 has 3 HDMI inputs and one out. I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and a HTPC connected to the 3 inputs on the receiver. Then the HDMI out from the receiver to HDMI 1 on the TV. That leaves the Motorola DVR, which is connected to the TV via HDMI 4.

The "ARC" feature (part of the Bravia Link thing, isn't it?) works wonders here, the TV passes the audio from my DVR back down to the receiver via HDMI 1 (normally it's the TV's video input from the receiver). Which leaves 2 more HDMI ports available (even if they're on the side of the TV) to plug in other equipment and still have it go through the surround sound. Which is cool. I should mention that network related things like Pandora, Slacker Radio, playing media from any other devices (in my case, computers which the TV recognizes and lists all the media stored on them) are all TV based, so having the audio get kicked down to the receiver (when the TV is generating the sound) is well, more cool.

"Checking external audio connection", "Switching to external speakers". TV says something like that (I should note my HX800 did the same thing).

I don't know what I think of the widgets, the idea is cool enough I suppose but the TV is so slow at doing anything involving them that they're mostly just annoying. They superimpose over the screen to the left, right or wherever you put them, and are displayed/hidden at the push of a button, etc. If you REALLY need Facebook updates while watching TV I imagine they're great. You also download/install them from something resembling the Apple app store. Not a whole lot there now, and from what I've seen it looks like Yahoo is the major publisher (the before mentioned Facebook widget was released by Yahoo, who knew?).

And that's my drunken review of a 60NX810. Have fun.
so your saying the 810 is a better set then?

Awesome - thanks for sharing. NX810 seems to be the model to buy - they should've made it an XBR instead of LX series

you rock

Thanks for posting that so fast

I can't wait to see it at Sony and then place my order

Sony really messed up by having the LX900 as their top model while the NX810 is not listed at least as an XBR

No, both are Sharp. I was just pointing out that there is more than 1 variation of Sharp panel part number for a given panel size. The Samsung panels have a completely different part number.
