Journey: thatgamecompany's next PSN game

Thread Starter
joeblow alerted us to this E3 2010 news which revealed Journey, but I thought it was time for the creator's of Fl0w and Flower next game to have it's own thread rather than let it be mentioned elsewhere.

http://thatgamecompany.com/games/journey/ will be released in 2011.

An exotic adventure with a more serious tone, Journey presents TGC's unique vision of an online adventure experience. Awakening in an unknown world, the player walks, glides, and flies through a vast and awe-inspiring landscape, while discovering the history of an ancient, mysterious civilization along the way.

Journey's innovative approach to online play encourages players to explore this environment with strangers who cross their path from time to time. By traveling together, they can re-shape the experience - creating authentic moments they will remember and discuss with others.

There have been comparisons to Team ICO games, such as Shadow of the Colossus. A recent viewing of the game at Gamescon reports this: 'Journey' Is This Generation's Shadow Of The Colossus

I skipped Flow but enjoyed Flower quite a bit. I'm looking forward to Journey and hope that the gameplay isn't too abstract to be "fun".

In the most recent GamePro magazine, there was an interview with Jenova Chen. In it he mentions that even Fumito Ueda himself told him he was impressed with what the team had shown so far. High praise indeed from "Mr. Ico" himself.

Journey on the Atari 2600 was awful.

I loved flower.

I played through Flower four times so far - twice on my own and once each helping my two daughters complete it.

Official release date: March 13, 2012.

As you may know from my recent tweet, the development of our latest PlayStation Network game, Journey, is finally complete. And today, we’re very excited to announce the official release date for Journey. You will be able to download it from the PlayStation Store for $14.99 starting March 13th, 2012. Three years ago, our last game, Flower, was part of the Spring Fever event on PSN, and this year Journey will kick off this year’s Spring Fever. Look for more information on the highlight games and sales of this year’s Spring Fever event on the PlayStation.Blog in the coming weeks....

This game is getting rave reviews. I hadn't even heard of it until today.

PS+ members will get access to the game a week early.

So, I downloaded Journey last night. Played through about 4 levels/save points.

I thought I'd been playing for about 15 minutes--turns out it was closer to an hour. So far, I like it. Another gem from That Game Company, IMO.

Agreed. Holy amazing. Had someone pop in to my game and, without anything but the little music you can make, we were making an excellent co-op team.

It took me a little while to realize that the other person in my game was another real human and not just a CPU.

Heh--maybe that was me in your game and vice versa.

The folks over at That Game Company do create some visually stunning games. The game play is always unique and does not conform to any standard for any other genre (RPG, FPS etc.)

I like the uniqueness of each game, flOw, Flower & Journey are have a special something about them that appeals to different gamers.

When I picked up my new Samsung 55" LED D8000 I fired up Flower to really see what the display could crank out as far as colors and movement/motion was concerned. Very happy with how it looked, simply stunning.

Amazing game. I don't care how short it was, it was better than 90% of the $60 games. Looks great (that sand!) and the music was magnificent. I ended up co-oping with three strangers and it was way cool. At the end I was at the edge of my seat and emotionally gripped.

$15? Take my money That Game Company! I want to buy it for people, but don't know a good way. Do they sell game codes anywhere still?

Thanks everyone for the opinions. Usually I would wait for a sale, but I'm wanting the full effect of the multiplayer so I'll be in this weekend.

I've never felt Playstation Plus envy until now. The rest of us peons have to wait until next Tuesday.

@Crash44 ^^^ Yeah, same here. Gotta support creative developers.

To add to that I went into the PS+ part of the store last night and fund four free games I had missed. Some good stuff too. Sly Copper HD is also free this month.

My wife's out of town this weekend and the kid goes to bed at 7pm, so I'll be trying to catch up on the last year's gaming this Saturday.

I'll definitely check out the multiplayer for Journey.

Played through the game last night. Wonderful experience and recommended to anyone who likes games. Other than not being longer and leaving me wanting more, I don't have anything negative to say. Well, maybe this...

The end credits roll and a lovely music theme plays. You wonder if there's a surprise as you watch yet another pretty vista behind the credits. The credits end and you see the PSN handles of the others you've met along the way. As I look at the others who got lost with me in this wonderful world, I notice the name of my first companion:

TitaniumTurd

Suddenly the real world was back

So when you make it to the main building before hitting the snow and getting a trophy for Wanderer, it's not over?

So far I've loved it.

Keep going. You'll get credits when it's done. The ending is wonderful.

This game gets a 10/10.

Played through it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. Not a lot of replay value unless you're a trophy whore, but it's an experience worth having at least once.
