I think all the LG IPS panels are of the same type, as indicated by the chevron pattern. There are other IPS panels that do not use the chevron pixels.

I wasn't really sure about the S-IPS panels. With all of the discussion going on earlier (way earlier) in this thread it seemed that some folks were reporting "squarish" pixel patterns which would probably be the H-IPS but I lost track of which models they were. Guess it doesn't really matter now. I'm still planning on doing my final CMS cals (because I can ) hopefully tomorrow or Thursday night and then compare them to the other 47LD520 CMS cals I have and see how close they are, taking into account the many factors that affect the cals. I'll post up my findings because it will give me something to do

This may be somewhat off topic, but I'm wondering if anyone here is using the MLB.TV app via Netcast and what your experience is.

Mine sucks on my 46LD550, to put it bluntly. Constant trouble connecting, then resets, a/v dropouts and stuttering (pardon the expression ) ... very frustrating. I've been looking for support forums but the MLB forum is quite fragmented.

It has to have a DD decoder in it, otherwise the TV wouldn't have anything to send to the internal stereo speakers when watching for example an ATSC broadcast where the audio is encoded in Dolby Digital AC-3.

But that doesn't necessarily mean it can output the PCM format that online2much is asking about, unfortunately.

On the other hand, the TV does have an analog headphone jack, so maybe that could be connected to their hearing aid streaming device with a simple adapter.

Like this one : http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...#specification

Would that work^?^

I did not order this exact model, so my only comment would be that I had to buy 4 screws to mount the bracket on the TV since the once that came in the hardware kit was too long. The screws I used was M6x20MM the ones in the kit was M6x30MM.

This is the one I got (I had 24" OC studs)

That is true. Didn't think about that

Thanks VBB and marcussen, I now feel comfortable choosing my wall mount
post #4087 of 5047
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, we can use the headphone jack, but most TV's automatically turn off the speakers when it is used. There have been a few that have an option to keep the speakers on, but they are few and far between. And the hearing impaired customer usually has a spouse with normal hearing ("Fred, would you turn the damn tv DOWN"!) and want to hear the tv too.

I did email LG a few days ago, but haven't heard back. It'll be interesting to hear what they have to say.

It's been interesting to say the least supporting this product with all of the different tv models out there. You have no idea how many user manuals I have looked up and read online. Most of our customers are 60+, and many times I have to point them to the audio outs ("on the back of your tv, in the upper right hand corner, do you see".... sigh). Could be worse I guess... I could be a proctologist...

47LD520 CMS Calibrations

I set my final CMS calibrations with the help of the pause button on the Panny 210 and the color print-out of the B1 pattern

I compared mine to two other 47LD520 CMS cals that were posted here. What is interesting is that two cals had no changes in red and green, two had very minor changes in the secondaries, and one had changes in all of the secondaries. This just verifies what the group has been saying for a long time. Using someone else's cals is a good starting point but you really need to do your own cal to get the most out of your set. Taking into consideration the variables involved in calibrating (DVD player, lighting, optical acuity, etc) I'm posting the average CMS readings of the 3 calibrations. It might be a good place to start for someone who is new to this and has a 47LD520. All three sets have confirmed S-IPS panels (loupe test) in case anyone wonders.

Average CMS Calibrations for 47LD520:

Red Color 1
Red Tint -9
Green Color -1
Green Tint -12
Blue Color -5
Blue Tint -16
Yellow Color 8
Yellow Tint -9
Cyan Color -12
Cyan Tint 2
Magenta Color -1
Magenta Tint 10

I'm using my own CMS cals for HDMI 1 (DVD) and OTA viewing. Checking against the A4 pattern for color clipping, blue clips at 247, red at 249, and green at 251. Backlight is 55, contrast is 85, brightness 51, sharpness and color is 50 and Tint is 0. Color temp is Warm and all enhancements are off.

Otto has left the room

Thank you, Otto. How do you like those settings compared to the ones you've used before? Have you tried bringing contrast up to the point where blue clips at 235?

To be honest Henry, my settings (which I did not post) seem fairly close to the others as far as viewing experience. I'm using my own cals and not the average. It would be nice if someone took the average settings I posted, plugged them in, and see how they looked. Keep in mind that 90% of my viewing is OTA, so I use the same DVD HDMI Expert settings for OTA as well because I have no way of calibrating OTA except for what Phase posts. Thank you Nick, BTW What would be the advantage of having the Blue clip at 235 as opposed to the higher setting? If memory serves me correctly (which is not always the case) even at 100, blue clipped higher than 235. I like where my basics are at now because I can use the Eco Saver (or whatever that is) and see a noticeable difference between Off and Low/Medium and not lose anything else.
I know what you mean. It's hard to tell the difference when you watch mainly OTA. The fact that your colors aren't clipping anywhere near the limit (235) means that you could increase contrast to make the picture brighter. I don't know if that's even necessary on your TV, though. My picture improves greatly with increased contrast.

Just like you, I'm done calibrating (for now)

I've got that free Avatar Blu-ray disc coming in (free when I bought the Panny 210) and I'm still looking for a good deal on the Seabiscuit Blu-ray so after I watch those I'll see if I need to fiddle anymore. Even tho the only fiddlin' I can do now is with the CMS or maybe even plug in some of Phases IRE settings but I'm not sure how much of a difference there will be if I use his IREs and my CMS. The thread seems to be dying off now which saddens me

Did it have a happy ending?

Bit the bullet and picked up the last in stock 60LD550 this afternoon at a Tiger Direct retail store. Luckily for me, my budget was between $1398 and $1400.... it fit right in Haven't set it up yet... that's a tomorrow morning project, but I'm pumped!

Wow. I thought the "man cave" was an urban legend Interesting ambient light you have behind your tv's. Congrats on your 60LD550. Let us know how it works out after you set it up. Oh boy, new toys

Awesome you were able to get it. I thought the price would have dropped a little further by now, but it's not bad considering it's a 60". I'm very happy to see another 60" owner! Are you gonna try your own calibration? Also, tell us when it was manufactured and what the product code is, please.

Urban legends? We don't need no stinkin urban legends! Ahhh... the joys of being single...

The ambient light actually really works for me. I can't stand a dark room during the day. That's my family room, and all it's glass on all 3 sides, so SOMETHING had to go in front of a window. Doesn't interfere with my viewing pleasure at all. If I had the blinds fully open that would be another story.

Couldn't sleep... kept thinking about playing with my new toy. Got up early, moved the DLP and unpacked the LG. Didn't have anyone here to help me, and didn't want to wait till one of my friends dragged their butt out of bed, so I managed to get this behemoth unpacked and up on the stand by myself... it wasn't easy! A quick trip to Home Depot for a 50' ethernet cable, and finished the setup.

Wow. I am so pleased with this tv! It is set up next to my DLP (that is developing the white dot syndrome) but that otherwise is working ok. It had the bulb replaced a few months ago. I haven't done anything but some very basic adjustments (turned off energy saving and played with a few picture modes). Using the same source, the LG blows away the DLP by a long shot. It is so crisp, clear and....vivid, it makes the dlp look very washed out. I'll be setting up custom settings later today... have to get it tweaked to watch Deathly Hallows on blu ray tonight. I do miss the 5 inches, but like I tell my GF all the time, it will just take some getting used to

A took a side by side picture of the two here but it's not a very good picture. It doesn't look quite as bad as this, but you get the general idea.

I have found one thing that I may not like about it though.... there doesn't seem to be any way to go directly to a specific input. I have a remote with macro capability, and if that is the case I'll have to manually go to the correct input.

I do have a couple questions...

It upgraded the firmware when I did the internet setup, but it seemed to say that there was a fw upgrade available the next time I turned it on. How do you check the fw version? I can't seem to find it in the menus.

Where do I find the manufacture date? And which one is the product code? Would it be 60LD550-UB.AUSMLFR ?

Wheeeeee.... a new toy.... now if I could just get my new wireless ^#%# printer configured...

There was a previous post on this - if I recall correctly, nobody provided a solution. The previous poster noted that because the menu remembers the last selected function it was not possible to teach a key sequence to automatically navigate to the input menu. Same thing you are experiencing?

You can see the 'software' version by pressing MENU. then RED button on remote. To see more info, there is also the host status screen - here are instructions from Phase700B on how to get to it: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=20054894

Yes, that is the product code. For 'manufacture date', there was a sticker on the box that showed this (not the big sticker that wraps around the box corner). I think this is actually a 'ship date', but I'm sure these things don't sit around in the warehouse very long, if at all.

That must have been quite a task getting that monster set up by yourself - and tell your GF I feel bad for her

Yes, do tell. I'm excited about Online2Much's big 'ol 60 incher but 47's my size
post #4107 of 5047
The manufacturing date is on a sticker on the back of the TV. I would be surprised if it was newer than October/November, though. Not that that's a bad thing. The 60" has just always been really hard to find.

Your product code is exactly the same as mine. The M indicates it's a non-IPS panel, but we already knew that.

I suggest you download the AVS HD disc and do a very basic calibration without even touching the CMS. That should get you a great picture. Just make sure you do all this in one of the ISF Expert modes.

As always, excellent advice. Plenty of help here if you get stuck.
