I have been trying for some time to get from the technicians in Korea (via the LG support site) what exactly that update does. The only thing I've been able to get so far is that it "enchances picture quality" which is too vague for me to apply an update if I don't know what it is supposed to correct. I don't apply updated unless it corrects a problem that I know I have. It could make things worse if the "problem" doesn't exist in the first place. I don't notice any of the issues that you do so either my LD520 doesn't have that, or I can't see it, either way, I'm good.

It seems as if their face is lagging (frame rate)? This issue has been reported many times before in this thread so surely you know which issue specifically I'm referencing. I know what the advertised artificial refresh rate of my television is *with TruMotion enabled . . . I'm saying without it enabled it doesn't seem to handle motion at 60hz as well as a 60hz TV does, make sense? My point is this TV HAS TO have TruMotion enabled to get rid of some of the blur that standard 60hz TVs do away with.

Also why does this TV have soo many issues with communicating with devices (Xbox 360's, DVD Players, Cable Boxes) when other TV's (some even cheaper) have no issue with none of the above? I love the color accuracy of this TV when you get it dialed in, but outside of that the picture has a slight blur to it and just lacks that HD pop. . .

I used to have a good set of settings before I reset my TV (when applying Firmware update). What are the max safe levels to have this TV at for an extended period of time? When I play 360 I prefer my backlight to be around the 60-70 range as I play in a well lit room.

Maybe you just got a bad set. My 47LD520 has been fine and plays very nicely with my BD player and the AppleTV2 (as well as the Wii and the MacBookPro). I have seen very little blur at all (almost non-existant) whether TruMotion is on or off. I have to admit I like a little SOE so I use it, except for movies.

any recommended calibration settings for a Wii on the 42ld520?

Just use one of the presets, Game or Cinema and tweak to your liking. Or calibrate your set and use those settings. Using someone else's settings can get you started but each set is unique based on the component tolerances, your viewing environment, whether you use a bias light or not, etc.

Otto, Phase, or CrossFit
Roughly a bajillion pages back there was mention of the LG BD630 blu ray player. I was just wondering how it has been performing for CrossFit. I have been in the market for a player and Amazon has the LG BD630 for $59 with free prime shipping.
I want something that loads fast and jives well with my 520, will the LG BD630 fit the bill or are there better choices around that price point.

Phase, care to point me in the direction with your most updated settings? After moving my TV into an area with more natural light (and a reflection 'window') it greatly improved the quality of my picture for whatever reason. . . anything I can do to combat this and enjoy it in a dark environment?

I find djams settings look great on my set but I usually watch my movies in evening with minimal light.... Would it be best to just turn down the backlight because I find it looks a little too bight for me especially in the evening....

Hey martyac. I eventually bought the Panasonic BDT-210. It's 2D-3D so I can't use the 3D aspect with my LD520 (don't really care for 3D anyway) but it plays very well with my 520. I bought it a quite a few months ago for 150 so you can probably find it online for much less than that. It has built-in WiFi if that's important which works well for what I need it to do. Loading BD's is not bad at all and it has all of the current a/v formats. I really like it.

Just making sure but W in the fourth spot on the 47ld520 means it is an S-ips panel correct???

Yes. I have the 47LD520, with a "W" in the fourth position of the product code and it is indeed an S-IPS panel (confirmed via the loupe test).

Forgive me, but I'm new to AVS Forum, so I'm not quite sure where to ask this -

I'm in need of a new tv. The set in my bedroom (an old, non-HD, cathode tube dinosaur of a tv) gave up the ghost the other day.

My neighbor is moving out-of-state next week. He mentioned to me that he was looking to sell a number of items he doesn't want to transport to his new home. One item is a tv which I know he bought only about 6 months ago. It's an LG 46LD550 46" LCD 1080p 120hz HDTV. He wants $359 for it.

The tv seems to have good reviews, and at six months of age it's not like it's near the end of its usable life or anything. I figure I'll put it in my living room, and move the tv currently in my living room (a 32" LCD HDTV) to my bedroom. Frankly, 32" has long struck me as a little small for my living room; moving up to 46" appeals to me. But 32" seems like an okay size for my bedroom tv.

I've never purchased a used tv before. Does $359 sound like a good deal for this tv? Any advice would be welcome.

So today I come home from church to hear this started happening on the TV about 2 hours ago. It has been running flawlessly since I got it in Oct.

The picture gets lines in it and you can see shadows of what is on the bottom of the screen now on the top.

I've unplugged it and left off for about 10 minutes, doing same. Right now it's off, I've reseated every input cable, even though it is occurring in multiple HDMI inputs, (I haven't tried component yet.)

Any ideas ?



I guess I should be buying the 5 yr warranty.

They had me do a hard reset, which is pulling the plug, holding the power button for 30 seconds and plugging back in. Still had problem.

Total time from dial to hang up. 25 min.

Any words of wisdom to watch for w/ the tech?

The repair vendor called, they want to order parts before they arrive. That's good. I had to "explain" what is happening. They were not interested in me sending a picture of the screen which might have given them a clue. Also I stated I wanted the same panel if that needed to be replaced. He stated I would get the only panel that would fit, blah blah blah. They called back asking for the product code because there are different versions. Which is exactly what I tried telling him already.

Alright, I am a complete noob to AV type things, but I just recently bought the LG 42LK520.

I have tried to find the best settings for this things, but I honestly don't understand what most of it means. The room is usually pretty bright and I use the tv for sports and gaming (xbox) mostly. All things are hooked up using HDMI. Any help would be great with some adjustments to make to make fast motion as smooth as possible.

I'm a newb w/ this TV as well but grew up in a home w/ a TV engineer (ABC TV) so I grew up expecting a pretty decent picture on my home set.

Post 4809 above by Phase has some nice settings. Search the thread for calibration or settings you'll find others. You don't have to know what it all means, just what you like. The Expert modes give you the most control but you can also just adjust the existing standard, etc to get what you like.

With the fast motion, I experimented w/ Trumotion settings. I found for setting Trumotion hockey was the best and once I had it set for hockey I liked it for all other sports, even soccer when panning. For tru motion w/ Blu Rays etc....I've experimented w/ the True Cinema setting, which curiously lately I haven't been able to touch. It's greyed out so I have to see what I did to cause that.
