I apologize if this was addressed in this thread, but my search attempt turned up blank.

I have a 42LD550 hooked up via HDMI to my DirecTV receiver. Whenever I turn it on, it will flash between the picture and black for about a minute straight. Almost like it's "warming up". Once that process is completed, there are zero problems.

Is this common? Is there a fix?

I believe this is a communication issue between the DTV and the LG. I'm out of my comfort zone here because I don't have sat but I believe the father of this thread has a 42LD550 (or was it a 450?). Lemme see if I can resurrect him and maybe we'll get an answer to you.

So after trying to connect my computer to the TV (lg 32ld500) using a 3.5mm audio cable into the headphone outlet on the TV there is now no way to get it to play audio out unless a pair of headphones are in the headphone jack.

When I go to the audio menu on the TV it states that a headphone is plugged in and audio menu cannot be tinkered with. Problem is there is NO cord in the headphone jack. Nothing is plugged in there. In fact I completely unplugged the computer, took the VGA out, disconnected the power, reset the TV, only have a coax for cable into it and it still wont work.

Sure enough if I DO plug in a pair of headphones into the TV, audio comes through the headset loud and clear. What is going on here? Nothing is broken in the headphone jack, its just as if it thinks there is and I can't do anything about it because the menu is grayed out and unaccessible since its technically in "headphone mode" TIA

**I've plugged in a ROKU connected with HDMI thinking that would produce audio and it didn't. Even used the red/yellow/white cables thinking that would work and still no audio out. I haven't used a toslink/optical cable but thinking thats not going to work either. Somehow I just need the TV to STOP thinking a pair of headphones is connected

Update: Well I did everything possible and it seems the TV is just stuck in headset mode. As of now I can get audio but not through the TV speakers, I'm using a 2.1 pc speaker setup and it works fine. Sucks though that for whatever reason it won't exit headphone mode, even when an input isn't in the socket.

Any chance of calling LG to see if they have any suggestions? Sounds like something got sent from your pc into the headphone jack (which is out only) and now it's confused.

I got a 32LD550. Not sure if anyone uses headphones on their TV, but I often do. I hate how you cannot change any audio settings while using headphones, it's so stupid. Does anyone else know if this is a common practice among newer TV's? Also, not sure if its just me but there seems to be absolutely NO BASS coming from the headphone jack. Before I didn't really notice it because I was just using some cheapo walmart earbuds.

However, recently I got a new pair of skull candy Skull Crusher headphones with "built in amplified subwoofers" Obviously they are not real subwoofers, but the effect is still quite convincing. I for one love them. Used to have a pair years ago until they finally broke from to much wear and tear, but thats besides the point. So anyways, I tested them out first on PC listening to some music. Then on TV with a movie (MKV with 5.1CH AC3, played directly off external USB HDD). and the headphones inline "amp" was turned on and all the way up, and......NOTHING. Tried same file on PC worked perfectly.

Also thought it might have something to do with the audio being 5.1, possibly the low Fq. channel getting cut off or something by TV outputing to 2CH, so I connected a DVD player with just LR audio and again it did not work.

The only other thing I can think of is to get a cheap DA converter and use TV's optical audio out to DA converter then plug headphones into that. Does anyone know what format/codec is output from the XXLD550's Toslink port? the cheaper converters only work with PCM/LPCM not dolby digital. So if the TV outputs in dolby digital (which is what MKV's audio track is 'ac3') then it would be useless anyways. Any suggestions?

You can not play 5.1 audio from an external source on most tv's (especially the headphone jack), even via HDMI. The only way to get discrete 5.1 from the tv is to use the internal ATSC tuner and then output the audio via optical to an avr. That's what I do for my LD520.

Not trying to get discrete 5.1 from headphone jack or elsewhere. Just want to get full FQ spectrum. As of the time of my original post, it was as if the sound was being processed by an EQ that was cutting all the low to low-mid Fq's.

It turns out that my problem is being caused by a bad headphone jack, maybe the solder points are loose? I was wiggling the phones connector around and could get it to momentarily play the full Fq. spectrum but upon letting go, it would go back to how it was. Now after wiggling it around, If I dont' hold it perfectly correct it won't have any sound.

I have a LD520 I've been experiencing this problem ever since I got it. When the camera pans really fast during a whiter background, it shows vertical black streaks. It's subtle, but noticeable. Is there a way to reduce this effect or is just inherent in the TV?

I too have an LD520 and have never noticed what you just described. Bad CCFLs? If it did this since day one, did you ever call LG support?

No, I thought it was a problem with all the TV sets. Not sure if I'm even still in warranty.

Not to my knowledge. Did you buy it new? In fact, I've never encountered any issues with my LD520.

The LD series was LG's 2010 model line. I bought mine in February of 2011.

I wouldn't think the speakers are off but then again I can't edit ANYTHING into the audio section. Here's what I'm looking at, no audio will come out the speaker settings whatsoever, so I'm still using 2.1 speaker setup for audio. I really don't want to have to open this thing up and try my luck there, but if it was possible to just disconnect the damn headphone board or something I'd do that for sure. No matter what, even when I do "sound check" under customer support it says "a wired headset is connected"

That looks like my side panel only I have one USB In. My guess is that something has happened to the headphone input (I think you said at one time wiggling it around you could get it to work) and the firmware thinks there's something still in the jack thus preventing you from doing anything. Other than a service call, I can't think of anything else you could do other than maybe a full reset of the tv?
