Amazon Warehouse - Any Good?

Looking to grab a used LED set from Amazon Warehouse listed as being in good condition with minor cosmetic damage to the rear of the housing.

Does anyone have any experience with Amazon Warehouse and the Square Trade warranty they offer with it?

This is an LCD technical forum, not a buying club. Check the Forum rules and you will see that threads of this type are not permitted.

Hmmm. I see these types of posts all over the place here.

So, that still doesn't make it right. As my old daddy used to say, "If somebody jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?"

Special Posting Rules for Display Forums [no price talk] link to AVS Advertisers

AVS Members:

Please remember that AVS Forum is a place for people to talk about Home Theater and how to better it. It is where people come for advice on how they can get the best of what they own and to learn more about this hobby we love. People new to Home Theater also come to AVS Forum to receive advice on how to setup a theater and what may work for them in their home. we have professionals for all walks of life both seeking help and giving it freely.

What makes AVS Forum work so well? Well we try very hard to keep marketing posts and pricing off the site for this is not what we want AVS Forum to be. If we allowed it, it would quickly happen and AVS Forum would not be attractive to members looking to get help from others with the same passion.

With that said...I would like to add some rules in this forum area that seem to be needed due to past issues....SO PLEASE...

1) Do Not post pricing you found on-line or at a local dealer.

2) Do Not ask for, or offer, a receipt so people can price match.

3) Do Not say to "Call John Smith at ..." (you know what I mean)

4) Do Not put down someone else's choice in their purchase.

5) Do Not start a thread asking for the best TV for $XXXX or I have a $XXXXX to spend

6) Do Not Discus where to buy a TV.

7) No Power buys: you cannot start or solicit Power buys

Posts falling into the above mentioned items, as well as the main site rules, can and will be removed without notice. As you are well aware, we can not see all posts that are made and thus that is where the REPORT THIS POST option comes into play. Some posts may stand as you know after review, but please try to help put to keep AVS Forum clean of marketing. A member that continues down the same line of posting where his/her posts needed to be removed can be removed from the site.

I hope you can respect what we are asking, for our mission at AVS Forum is not how to get the best price, but how to achieve the best out of the gear you own or are looking to own.

Thank you kindly.

Thank you for that, although I didn't break any of the 7 rules with my OP. Where else do you recommend I go for comments regarding an LCD someone may have purchased for a specific location? I didn't ask where to buy a tv, I asked if anyone had any experience with them. I'm about to make a significant purchase of a $2000+ LCD, so I feel it's quite relevant.

Wouldn't your reply fall under some forum rule though? As you posted something completely unrelated to an LCD or any other HDTV in any shape or form.

The title of your thread, Amazon Warehouse - Any Good?, sure sounds like a "where to buy" question to me, no matter how you may justify it. I just think creating a thread with a title like that is a serious slap in the face to all of the good sponsors that make this Forum possible.

I won't even dignify your question about my reply with a response.

@Boiler, so you're the high and mighty authority... right? I think you better go read this thread and tell them all that they're a "slap in the face" to all the good sponsors here. And that the topic shouldn't even exist in the first place. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1147977 In fact, you should try the search feature!!! Did you know that with a few simple keywords, you could make your unneeded and unwanted comments made known in every thread you find shouldn't belong here? Pretty cool stuff!

@Servicetech, thanks for a sensible reply. Although they have nothing there for Amazon Warehouse

Don't feel bad, I can assure you that other people have the same question. Sorry I don't have any personal experience with the Amazon Warehouse.

As far as your question being a "serious slap in the face to all the good sponsors that make this Forum possible".

Amazon is ubiquitous and appears in numerous posts.

Good luck getting a satisfactory answer

OK, I get the picture. Give me 40 lashes with a wet noodle and send me to bed without supper.

Generally I've found the Warehouse to be pretty decent and accurate when describing the condition of items (though I've never bought something as large as a TV from them).

You basically take a chance on what they define as "minor cosmetic damage" but with Amazon I think you still have the option of returning it.

I've bought several things there going back a few years. As a matter of fact a 46inch XBR9 was just dropped off that I bought last week. The box was very rough but as usual they are conservative in their estimation and this XBR they rate "good". It doesn't have any scratches and is actually "very good". Good deals can be had if you don't mind used w/ no factory warranty.

I would never buy a flat screen, especially sight unseen, without a warranty. That will bite you in the butt sooner than later.
