Setting up 2ch music system advice

Thread Starter
SOme advice here as down the track, once I have planned out what to do, I am planning on doing a 2 ch music setup.

Now my main types of music I be listening is rock/metal, so I be looking at speakers/stereo integrated amplifier best suited for this. Will consider DIamond 9.6, as that is probbaly a least expensive floor stander in my region (especially since 10 series are out, this be cheaper). Was also thinking along the lines of B&W and Paradigm speakers.

I am thinking along the lines of going for floor standers. As I understand, speaker matching to the type of amplifier is important.

So if some can suggest some brand combinations matching speaker and integrated amplifier be much appreciated.

if you like your music loud/want a pretty powerful integrated, look at the Anthem 225.

as far as speakers go, you should really listen first. bring your music with. some speakers that sound great playing light jazz/acoustic music, will get pretty sloppy sounding when playing fast metal/hard rock

i havent heard the 9.6's, so unfortunately i cant comment on that. i own a pair of B&W's, and i really love them. however, i really dont listen to too much metal/harder music. occasionally ill have some punk on, and that seems to sound ok, although usually its an issue of recording quality and not speaker performance

IMO, if you're looking for a truly "audiophile"-grade speaker, that still absolutely rocks...make sure you find a dealer and audition Dynaudio.

You'd be surprised how much bottom (bass) their monitors give you, and they have no problem filling up a room. But if you're dead-set on floorstanders, I'd recommend the Focus 220s. I don't know what your budget is, but remember...you highest percentage of dollars should be spent on good speakers first!

Heavy metal sounds best to me on big 15" 3-ways.
Like the ones Cerwin Vega sells.
They have a new line out that looks impressive and affordable too.
Check them out

Considering your musical taste, and assuming you want really great bass (loud but clean and accurate), IMO you should consider adding a good sub (SVS for example) to large floor standers. Having a separate sub handle your deep bass (< 80 HZ) will allow you to put your main speakers where you want and position the sub for best bass room response, which is probably not the same location. SVS is the best sub value around, IMO, although Hsu Research is considered very good also.
