Pioneer vsx: 520 vs 820 vs 920?

I found the 920 for $280, which is $100 more than the 520
Is it worth the $100 more?
And what about the 820?

Anybody?

you are going to have to check the features on the 3 Pioneer models, each adds capability, features and power to the basic 520. For the money, I would get the 920

And do you know that receiver (the 920)?
Is it a good choice?

I do not have the 920, but a much older 914 that has performed well for a number of years. An excellent budget receiver.

I went to a local dealer (ABCWharehouse) and they have the Denon AVR 591 for $277..
So I'm comparing the Pioneer VSX 920 at $280 and the Denon AVR591 at $293
Which one should I get?
Again, I'm planning on using small speakers (AJMS S413 5.1 set..at least for now)
I need to make it quick because the discount ends today for the Pioneer

Thanks

hard call - are you going to ever upconvert analog video from the component video inputs or the composit video inputs to HDMI to feed to the TV over a single cable ?

The Denon will convert the analog feeds to HDMI, but will not upscale them...480i stays 480i. The Pioneer 920 will convert and upscale all video sources to 1080p over HDMI

it is really a feature vs. feature decision - for the prices quoted I would go with the Pioneer.

OK, I see.... Good point
Actually, the ony component device I have is the Wii
What about the upscale quality witht the Pioneer? I've read reviews on other receivers, and the upscale is usually terrible at thsi price range....!!!

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I've been looking at the pio 920 and only have 720p tv. Would this be a good choice for upscaling my old dvd player? Or anything 720p? With my vision I don't see a lot of difference between 1080 and 720 so the cheaper 720 was a no brainer for me.

Thanks

All I could get was the 520. I have it set up with all the features off and run the sound through auto.

Does that sound right? How important is it to set speaker distance?

^^^

it's rather important if you'd like it to sound "right"...
