Best compressor for .mov ?

Is there a better compressor or software program to shrink a .mov video file and still produce a great video image quality? I have seen some video clips from youtube with very nice HD quality and yet it`s a very small file size.

I`m using an iMac right now.

I use the Matrox MX02 with max hardware with the accompanying matrox h264 codecs they include. Output is fantastic at all the HD res's (1080 30/i/p, 720 30/60/p), file sizes are small and most importantly, the conversions and transcodes are very quick with the hardware assist. They have conversion settings for compressor specifically for Youtube, Blu-ray, Iphone, Ipad.

If you can afford the unit, it is invaluable. It does a ton of things (HD monitoring, cross converting, capture, hardware assisted acceleration of effects in FCP/Avid/Matrox (in October update)) in addition to the great job it does with h264 compression.

More info here:

I don't work for Matrox, but I am a big fan of this unit.

Apple's compression software is Compressor, works decently well.

Thanks for the response.

I`m using iMovie and when I output my 4 minutes video project in HD 720P, I`m getting around 360MB size. How do I compress this more with less quality deterioration?

What codec are you exporting it in?

YouTube streams 720p at about 2 Mbit/s. I'd say that rendering anything above 5 Mbit/s for uploading to the Web is excessive.
