Sony STR-DH810 - upconvert to component 1080i?

Hi All,

I'm planning to purchase a budget receiver and had my eyes on Sony STR-DH810.

According to the manual and specs, it upconverts (everything) to HDMI 1080p, but my (older) LCD RP TV does not have HDMI (DVI and component) and will support up to 1080i.

I know that this receiver will upconvert everything to 1080p via HDMI, but how about 1080i via component? Or, if I get HDMI to DVI cable, will I be able to use this receiver?

If this unit does not, are there any (modern) receivers that would upconvert to both HDMI 1080p (for future use) and component 1080i (for now)?

Thanks in advance!

Sony AVRs (and some others) have HDMI handshaking issues when connecting to DVI devices. That's why the 810's manual says Sony doesn't recommend going that route. Since your TV is going to scale any input signal to its own native resolution (720p/1080i), I'd recomment just connecting the AVR to the TV with a component video cable. If you get an HDMI TV at some point later on then use an HDMI cable.

Samsurd,

Thank you for your reply. But will 810 upconvert all the signals (component and composite) to 1080i/720p via component cable?

Thanks,
