I use both modes all the time and for me both modes are very efective. I keep engaged Dynamic EQ all the time. When I want to watch movie late at night and not to distubr neighbours, I also turn on Dynamic Volume with Night/Miidnight setting.

I also think that you will not be dissapointed with AVR-4311. It worth of every cent.

Yes, sorry, I'd already corrected that above.

...and it did seem to get positive review of the ARC correction. I wonder if anyone has done a comparison?

Kal's reviews are one of the few places you will find a sophisticated and unbiased comparison of high-end HT processors with their respective EQs correctly set up. For our purposes in this comparison, I'd consider the 4311 fairly similar to the 80.2 as they are both XT32.

Still holding on to my SC-07, but there is no comparision between the Denon and the Pioneer, its that good (XT32). Plus it was the first time I ever got to do an update to my receiver firmware or feature. Its a great feeling to own a receiver you feel that is somewhat future proof with Denon adding new capabilities like AirPlay - unlike Pioneer's lack of support of its products. There are many former Pioneer Elite owners like myself who were smarter than I was - Chris - and made the jump sooner. My only regret. Can't wait to invest in the Pro kit soon.

Lots of peer pressure here Anyway, I am close to pulling the trigger, but I will admit not only do I love the sound from the SC-05, I like looking at it! The 4311 looks good, but no where as nice as the shiny Elites! Although I have not listed the SC-05 for sale or the Anti-mode yet, if I can find a buyer I think that will push me over to the 4311. Anyone???

^Ah, you should then eschew the plain ol' 4311 for the rare and elusive A100 with its shiny black faceplate (which, incidentally, improves soundstage width depth and imaging just as much as the special iron feet).

^+1 get A100. Sounds better/ looks better than the 4311 :0

lol... anyone wanna buy my feet?

@gov... looks like the pied piper hooked another one...

i don't think you'd be disappointed... none of our old pio buddies that i've, umm, convinced to come to the dark side, have been...

the antimode should sell pretty quick, if priced right... the 05 might be a bit more of a challenge, but "priced to move" it should sell in a reasonable amount of time....

+1 on that...and if you can sell my misfit SC-27 and SC-57 as well I won't object....

Edit: I just called Saturday Audio Exchange here - I'm testing the waters to see if I can swing a deal to swap the two units I have for the 4311CI they sell, +/- a few hundred bucks. DK if it's practical but wish me luck....the Dark Side may be calling sooner rather than later?

I didn't want to take too much of a hit by selling the SC-05 so I moved her into another room. I agree that she's a beauty, but once I fired up the 4311 I had zero regrets.

I have my SC-05 and Anti-Mode listed for sale on a couple of other forums now. I have them priced to sell! Thanks for the push guys, I hope to "join the party" soon Maybe it is the IPA I am drinking too

VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH 4311CI
You guys can beat me up all you want but I'm sticking with my Pioneer SC-37

The amp on the SC-37 is noticably better in terms of sound - you can feel the punch from the speakers (RC70); RCLCR; CF 70; RCR; RCLCR (FH) and HSU VTF-MK3

4311 AFTER calibration appeared very weak.
AirPlay was great... OH WOW!!! wish the sound met my expectations too.

Ok... let the flaming begin...

Ciao

as far as deq goes... it's worth experimenting with...

when i first got a deq equipped unit, i HATED it... once guided by roger dressler and others to experiment with the different settings, i now use it all the time...

dvol i don't use, since it's just me and swmbo who live here, and she could sleep through an earthquake... but many do use it to great success...

if you have measuring tools, you can tweak your sub distances (if necessary) to flatten your response even more... this trick was taught to me by craig john, and it really works...

there's a few other things, but that's a start...

Eh...anybody for Goose Island Pale Ale or one of their Stouts?

To stay on topic - if I decide the deal's "worth" it, I'm gonna need a lotta support to get Audyssey nailed down, after I read the batpig guide a few times. But coming from a recent SC the unit doesn't sound as quirky as I'd have expected it to be.

Only issue - should I be worried about using a Blue Jeans Cable 25' BJC bonded pair HDMI cable between the hypothetical 4311 and our Panny G15 of the moment? I've had no problems with the SC-27/57 and the Panny, but I remember some bad experiences connecting my Denon 5910 to our old Pioneer Elite set. Is there any reason I should invest in accessories?

no flames... if you like the other unit better, there's nothing wrong with that...

fwiw, you aren't hearing differences in "the amp" though...

Wanna buy my SC-57? Maybe we can swap, depending on where you live. PM me if you have a chance.

As a Chico State grad I can whole-heartedly recommend the Sierra Nevada Pale Bock, if you can find it.

That's interesting when you mention I am not hearing the differences in the amps.
I ask because after running XT32 still it didn't sound musical... when I used to think Pioneer is bright... this sounded a little bridgter when I expected the otherway around.
Did I miss something in running calibration?

sure, i'm an equal opportunity ipa/apa drinker...

ah, you'll get it down in no time... you are already a step ahead of the game by being familiar with the as-eq1...

i don't think so... in the past, i've used both a 40' s1 cable and a 25' f2 cable (the predecessor to the fe) with no issues (to 2 different projectors and a little lcd)... but given the vagaries of hdmi, the words of the great philosopher joaquin andujar come to mind, "you never know"....

dunno... but i strongly doubt that the difference you are hearing is due to the amplification section...

did you follow the instructions in the batpig guide when running audyssey?
hoping someone can help me out, i just sent my onkyo 807 in for repair and looking to jump ship. Ive been told by many to get this avr. I got a price on it, and it came close to the pioneer sc57.

Now would it be worth for me to jump to this, or take a step down and buy an external amp (plan to do so in near future).

studio 60v4 fronts... waiting for the rest to pop up on sale.

other im looking at, marantz 7005, pio 55/57

Yes I did.
The biggest thing that got me was the brightness; couldnt find a way to turn the brightness down e.g. in SC37 you have the bass and treble that goto to +/-6db.
Also, the loudness for 4311 was different at -20db vol ref.

If you go the Marantz 7005 please let me know. I really loved the 6005 - extremely musical - except only 110Wpc
