The "Official" Denon AVR-4311CI/AVR-A100 thread [NO PRICE TALK] - Page 582

Actually I think previous Onkyo's had it, but other issues put me on the Pio track and now Denon (hoping). And, I would want more the 1/3-octave steps, and phase control...

More on-topic (trying to be good before I get kicked off another thread): Does the 4311 actually power down unused amps?
^^
No .. they remain powered, rather the signal to them is disconnected.
Inputs shorted, hopefully... But thanks very much, I was curious since I am likely to use mine with my current amps for now. Aside from some personal issues, my biggest obstacle to getting a 4311 is having to pull out the cabinet (several hundred pounds of it) and then re-wire and set up a new AVR... Amazing how much stuff is hooked in back there!

So was just trying to use the web interface (via Apple Safari) to control my 4311CI and found that I couldn't save a file at all. The Save Config button would automatically try and connect outside my private network... The Load Config worked perfectly even though I haven't yet been able to save my config ;-)

So I examined the two javascript forms and the code that went with each and I immediately noticed two errors in the Save Config javascript.

Load Config (file: SETUP/07_LOAD/d_config_load.asp)

Quote:

Save Config (file: SETUP/06_SAVE/d_config_save.asp)

Quote:

The save config form text doesn't have a space in front of the action command and secondly there is no "methot" type. This should have been picked up a long time ago by Denon.

So basically anyone have problems trying to save config files on the AVR-4311CI where you can't get the Save Config to work in your browser it is not your fault.

Hope this helps people from being frustrated, like I was.

Cheers.

I had the exact same issue with Safari - I did use Chrome successfully however.

This is interesting. I am not a JavaScript expert. Would there be a possibility that the coding would work differently in various browsers? For example, I don't have an issue when running the web interface Save function from within IE9. I have seen several reports where users having difficulty using Save reported success when they switched browsers.

LOL!! Funny how that goes. My HT is being rebuilt, almost all my equipment is new. Before adding components (including my new 4311) into my rack I flipped it over and put big-arsed castors on the bottom, for the very reason you guys are joking about. Homey ain't stupid.

Yes, that sounds exactly what is happening. Safari's javascript engine may be too strict to permit that malformed script to function whereas other browsers may permit it.

Cheers.

Another problem that might affect some browsers is the action paths should be http:// rather than http:/ (the extra slash might be critical in some cases).

^ Does anyone think there is any value reporting this to Denon TS? Is the code for the web interface in the AVR, and can it be updated via a firmware update?
Yes, of course, although suggest doing it via the Denon's "Ask A Question" website page rather than by phone so there's a hard copy trace.

Is there a way to save ones Audyssey settings with the 4311 as you can with Onkyo AVR/prepros? In this link it gives detailed steps on how to store and recall settings with the unit itself. If it is possible it would be much easier for someone like myself with limited computer knowledge. Also it seems that some are having trouble saving their settings using web control function.

True, but I got 18 months out of the Onkyo.
Only a couple hours out of the Denon.
Video through the Denon wasn't as sharp as the Onkyo, although I didn't even have it long enough to make sure all the settings were correct.
Another plus for the Onkyo is its dual usage capabilities,I can listen to music or watch a blue ray on it while simultaneously frying an egg on it.

I had three onkyos (805, 885 and 886) and they did get quite warm requiring a fan for piece of mind. I've had the 4311 for less than a week and I'm surprised that it gets warm as well (in preamp mode). Certainly not as hot as the Onkyos but still pretty warm.

Sorry, Bill, the current cal is the only cal as far as the 4311 is concerned, there is no "go back to the last cal" fnctn within the AVR.

I presume you've now passed the "Denon Network Save 101" course, with a successful SAVE under your belt? Seriously, this AVR has been the impetus for huge learning curves for me. Next up is figuring out more on saving and playing HiRes music files.

Hey Bill, we'd like to read more on this thread about what you think of the 4311 preamp vs your nice Parasound HT bypass Pre. Also, what sort of SQ improvements are you hearing with XT32 over XT?

That is indeed active biamping, but Onkyo's implementation might require an awful lot of user experimentation and manual adjustment. (It might qualify for the "half-baked" description.) What I was envisioning would use an Audyssey-like system to measure the drivers' response and make the settings automatically, perhaps with the option of user tweaking afterwards.

Nevertheless, Onkyo's feature is a step in that direction, so it will be interesting to see how they evolve it and if other manufacturers, particularly Denon, follow.

SoM,

Thanks for that information.

I haven't had the time to give "Network Save" a shot yet. Due to being a computer idiot I'm a little afraid of bricking my 4311. But I guess I have to jump in with both feet and give it a shot.

I did some basic non leveled comparisons of the 4311 (Audyssey Flat with DynEQ off) to the 2100 and I was very impressed with the SQ of the 4311. The biggest improvement I'm hearing with XT32 over XT is how much better my surrounds are blending with the front speakers. The sub also sounds great but having the Anti-Mode 8033C in the signal path the difference is not that much. Of course I have not taking any measurements as I should but with no calibration software or a calibrated mic that won't be happening anytime soon.

^Once you do a save then I recommend you do another cal without the antimode and hear how XT32/SubEQHT does without it. Save that one, then A/B them using Network Load.

Then you can sell the Parasound and the Antimode and buy lots more HiRes shiny discs.

I just got my first 3D capable TV, with ARC and I am struggling with this feature...

What benefit is it?

I would like to get free to air analogue tv sound from my Denon, is there a way?

I can't get any sound from the TV to my amp, even with the optical output connected from the TV to the amp, is this because I am using the analogue tuner?

Right now, all that CEC / Anynet from my Samsung does is to switch on the amp at the same time when it the telly turns on, and vice versa. That's isn't really help, as it turns off the amp when it goes off when I actually want the amp to stay on.
^^
In order for the ARC feature to work (ie. pass audio from the TV back to the AVR over the HDMI cable connecting them), HDMI-CEC must be enabled on both the TV (Anynet+) and on the AVR (HDMI Control) and the HDMI cable must be plugged into the proper ARC HDMI input on the Sammy (usually HDMI2). With ARC enabled you should be able to pass OTA audio to the AVR. Also make sure the Sammy is set to "external speakers" or "home theater". You should also be able to pass audio from the optical audio out jack to the AVR as well.

Yes, can somebody explain the benefits of ARC?

Sure. Read the post above yours.

The only 2 of 8 BB/Magnolia stores in Central Florida with the 4311CI in stock have placed them on clearance (still a bit higher than EE) which is another sign that remaining units in inventory around the country will start dwindling down fast. If you're on the fence, better get one before they're gone.

Is it worth upgrading from 3808ci?

There have been a number of former 3808CI and 4310CI owners that have posted in this thread that have been suitably impressed with the increase in audio fidelity that XT32 offers over XT (3808CI). The 3808CI is still a fine AVR, however, the 4311CI is a great choice especially if you have dual subs and/or want to expand beyond 7.1 or need 3D pass through. Only you can decide if it's "worth" the cost.
I read that Audyssey has redesigned the mic for all the new upcoming AVRs and that all the bugs of the old mike have been fixed.. Will the new redesigned Audyssey mic work with the older XT32, XT and multEQ systems ?
