The "Official" Denon AVR-4311CI/AVR-A100 thread [NO PRICE TALK] - Page 617

I just received my new 4311 this week and have a couple of questions regarding it as compared to my previous Denons(4310 and 3808). I noticed that although the 4311 displays the same lighted color ring around the power switch when it is on, it goes completely black when the power is off, unlike the earlier models which changed to red. Is this the way it works now? Also, I have been using my Android tablet to control my 3808 and 4310 using a remote app(not from Denon). However, the app cannot "see" the 4311 when it is off to connect with it to turn it on, change the source, volume, etc. Is this the normal behavior for the 4311 and has anyone found an app that can control this receiver? I understand the Denon apps for both Apple and Android(has it been released yet?) will NOT control the 4311, but only the newer "In Command" series of AVR's, Can anyone confirm this, at least for the iOS devices which I know has already been released(the app).
Thanks!smile.gif

The power switch on my 4311 is dark when the power is off and green when on. So I would say that is the norm.

Not sure about the power button, I believe it's either off (no light), standby (red light) or on (green light).

I use this Android app for my 4311:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.pskiwi.avrremote

It's a bit flaky on connecting via auto-scan, but no problems when manually configuring the IP address of the 4311.

Unfortunately, that's the app I have been using with my other Denons. The problem seems compounded by the fact that I also have the 3808 connected and networked, so it automatically connects to it and doesn't give me a choice to "find" the 4311. How do you manually enter the IP address for your 4311? I haven't found a place to do that; mine just shows the IP address for the 3808 and is the only choice to select for a receiver in my network. As you said, it doesn't seem to "see" the 4311 at all; I suspect this has to do with the new power saving standby mode compared to the earlier models. Anyway, if you can tell me where/how to manually enter the 4311's IP address I will give that a try.
Thanks!biggrin.gif

1. Unlike the 3808CI and the 4310CI which have 2 power buttons and are powered either ON/Standby/Off where the "red" ring indicates the unit being in Standby, the XX11 and newer models only have 1 power button, such that no "red" ring means the unit is in regular standby, while the "red" ring means the unit either has HDMI Control set to ON or Network Standby set to ON.

2. Although the new Denon Android app just released this week will not work with the 4311CI, the Denon iDevice app should work with it. Other iDevice remote apps that should work include "DenONOFF" and "DeRemote" as well as AVR-Remote for the Android. Note that in order for the remote app to see the 4311CI, the Network Standby setting must be set to ON.

As always, JD, a great answer! I suspect that part/all of my problem may be that I have not yet set my new 4311 to Network Standby(unless by default it is ON). Tonight I will change/check that setting to see if that allows my current app to see the 4311. If it still doesn't work, I will try the apps you mentioned.
Thanks again.biggrin.gif

Nope ... Network Standby defaults to "OFF."

That could be an issue, I don't see this app being able to support more than one receiver. It doesn't have anything to do with power settings.

I don't think you will be able to simply add new IP address to control the 4311. Go into the phone Settings, then find the setting for Apps, and then click on AVR-Remote. Once there and after refresh, click Clear Data. The open the app and it will first ask you to select your receiver (4311) and will automatically scan the network to try and find it. If it does, great. If not, go into the app Settings and select Receiver IP Address and manually enter it.

Good luck!

Thanks, JD. You know, if you keep that up, you may embarrass me into reading the manual

I got out of the habit of reading these AVR manuals as the earlier Denon's manuals were more confusing than helpful, so I learned most of my Denon AVR knowledge from trial and error and in online forums from gurus like you and Batpig. It seems the new manuals have improved, so I will definitely have to read this one.rolleyes.gif

Yes indeed ... although much can be improved in the information provided, still better than in the days of the 3808CI and the 4310CI. smile.gif

Yeah, it seems "stuck" on the 3808 and no way within the app to clear it out. Thanks for the tip on going into the setting on my tablet and clearing out the data for the 3808 first and then letting it scan to see if it will find the 4311; if not, I can then manually enter the address for it.
Thanks much!

If you are referring to AVR-Remote, it can work with two receivers. I use it to control Denon 3310 and 4311. bit tricky at first to set up, but works fine.

That is good to know also. I will give these suggestions a try tonight and hopefully be able to use my tablet to control everything again. I am very disappointed with Denon for not making the Android app compatible with the 4311 while at the same time designing the iOS app to do so. Seems like they are "pushing" users to the Apple camp by their preferential treatment of Apple devices.mad.gif

As an Android nerd I hear ya, but then again, we're much more flexible than the brainwashed iCrowd so it's understood why they come first biggrin.gif

*flamesuit on*

AVR Remote, IMO, is great. Since I've never seen the official denon app I cannot compare, but for almost anything related to the 4311 I pick up my phone or tablet long before I look for the Denon remote.

Soft reboot didnt work. I may have to do a hard reboot.

Weird problem. I cannot get an album in my library to play. I can see them and click on them, but nothing happens. I added an album via my AVR and had the same problem. But if I do a search for an album I already have, I can see it and play it as normal. I just cannot save the album and play it from my library.

Have you checked the manual to make sure your music files are in a supported format?

Unfortunately, most AVR's network streaming capabilities are pretty basic compared with dedicated streaming devices like Apple TV, Sonos, etc.

To be a little more clear, I am referring to my Rhapsody Library in which I searched the music and saved albums for streaming. Rhapsody plays back in WMA. So, no format issues whatsoever. Just an odd playback issue. Since my setup is fairly new and still in process, I can try a hard reboot.

When I first set up the AVR, album playback on Rhapsody worked fine.

I'm having trouble getting output from my 2nd sub.
Is there a setting or menu option I need to select?
I have one connected to SW1 (which plays fine) and I have another connected to SW2, but it doesn't output anything. (it gives feedback when I hit the coax cable to the metal outer casing)
I have tried multiple tests, multiple runs of Audessey) and read through this thread, but I can't seem to get it.
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks

Speaker setup menu and select 2 subs.

I've lost audio out from TV to AVR via HDMI ARC while streaming internet on my P60GT50. Connected a digital audio cable from TV to AVR and it's back. Good chance I hit the wrong button(s), either on the remote, or receiver face, or selected the wrong setup menu settingas I've been playing around with the various settings.

Anyone have any suggestions how I can restore audio out to AVR via ARC? I can't seem to come up with a solution but I'm pretty sure it's an easy fix.

Thanks,
Jason

Confirm that HDMI-CEC (TV) and HDMI Control (AVR) are both still enabled.

All:

I recently purchased the Denon 4311ci that has a 30 day return option.

Unfortunately, I just have a couple speakers and don't have the 7.1 speaker setup.

I want to test it though before, what are some of othe common problems (if any) with this receiver that I should test out before my return period expires? Also, i've never had a sophisticated receiver, would testing it be as simple as attaching a speaker to each channel and putting some music on?

Just set it up and use it. Install the airplay update and enjoy. Great choice to build a system around. Welcome to the thread.

So, I take it there are no common issues with this I should specifically look for?

thanks

Hi, a quick question on using external amplifier for two front speakers only. Is there any configuration change necessary to the 4311? Everything seems to be working fine, but want to be sure before running Audyssey with new speakers.

Thanks in advance.
