I purchased a Denon 4311Ci a couple months ago and have a problem that I hope someone can help with. I have the Denon connected in a conventional manner.... Oppo Blu-ray, Apple TV and Motorola cable box... all attached via HDMI inputs, then the HDMI output to a Sony LCD. Speaker system is 5.1. My problem is that a member of my family is hard of hearing and uses one of those Sennheiser assisted listening earphones systems (similar to "TV Ears" but a lot better).. The base station broadcasts via RF to the headset. The Sennheiser instructions state you can connect the base station to the Headphone output on your source. When I plug it into the Denon, it does indeed work, but as soon as it is plugged in the, 5.1 surround speakers are turned off. There is also an adapter that allows you to connect the base station to a sound source via left and right RCA jacks. Can someone tell me how I can make the both the 5.1 surround and the Sennheiser headphone system work at the same time. I was hoping there is someway to attach the base station via outputs on the back of the Denon to accomplish this. That way we could all enjoy the movie but Grandpa still has all the volume, compression, and treble boost he needs to understand dialogue.
Google "sonic super ear" for a cheap solution to that problem if you don't want to use captioning. I have one for when CC is not available. Not optimal but works pretty good when understanding the dialog is the main problem.
